They’ve always been true trailblazers, but on the band’s upcoming sixth album, Stoned Jesus are expanding their horizons to a mind-melting degree. On the first single from Songs to Sun, the heavy progressive rockers outran their demons by popping off surprising twists and hidden hooks. Now, front man Igor Sydorenko and his new mates are revealing something that the band has never done before.

Today, Stoned Jesus are releasing a new scorcher from Songs to Sun. “Low” boils with frustration over trying to please people. But as documented by its behind-the-scenes video, thanks to some newfound chemistry, their latest single breaks through the surrounding pressure by becoming the first song in the band’s discography with blast beats.

“Songs to Sun shows off the heavier, more aggressive side to Stoned Jesus”, Sydorenko says. “‘Low’ is about trying but failing to satisfy everyone. The frustration ends up exploding mid-song into what’s now our most straight-up metal song to date”.

Songs to Sun comes out September 19, 2025 on Season of Mist.

Songs to Sun is the first in a forthcoming trilogy of LPs that once complete, will stand as the pinnacle of what’s been a decades-long trip for Stoned Jesus. But while positively glowing with catchy choruses that have pushed these heavy progressive rock trailblazers up summer festival posters, there’s an existential shadow that hangs over their new album. While recorded amidst the natural light that beams into Monochrom Studio from the surrounding Polish countryside, Sydorenko wrote these songs while finding a way through his own personal valleys.

“Low” is weighed down by the soul-sucking feeling that comes from trying to be everything to everyone. While exceptionally nimble, the song’s opening riff winds into an angry, hard rock shuffle. “Nothing I’ve tried would make you glow“, Sydorenko shouts over an unrelenting groove.

But while their new single provides plenty of headbanging moments, Stoned Jesus are still ignited by a shared passion for experimenting with their sound. While they’re road tested following Hellfest, dates with Cult of Luna and the recent 15th Anniversary Tour, Songs to Sun is the first album that Sydorenko made with his new rhythm section. Shot in studio, the video for “Low” highlights their creative chemistry. Andrew Rodin holds down the low end with a climbing bass line and punishing backing vocals – only for Yurii Ciel to blow the song wide open with a torrential rush of blast beats.

“Even though this song deals with some heavy topics” Sydorenko says, “having fun together while working in the studio on Songs to Sun was the best recording experience each of us has ever had”.

The video for “Low” was created by Marco Menestrina with footage filmed by Stoned Jesus.

Since 2009, Stoned Jesus has served as one of Europe’s leading forces in heavy rock. Igor Sydorenko, a veteran of the Ukrainian underground music scene, started it as a solo project after stumbling upon some heavy and angry riffs that would become the song “Occult.” He fed off his Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin influences and was soon turned onto Electric Wizard and Sleep, two bands who mastered the art of bold, lurching heaviness, thus creating a sonic template to abide by.

The Kyiv-based project was initially dubbed “Stoned Jesus from the Outer Space” but shortened to the much crisper Stoned Jesus. The name was trimmed down out of necessity — Sydorenko wanted to legitimize the band immediately. “I realized that this may cause some problems,” he told Psychedelic Baby in 2010. “Some people wouldn’t take our music seriously, then. I don’t mind jokes and having fun, but music is always the most serious thing for me.”

Two demos ensued before Stoned Jesus’s debut LP, 2010’s First Communion. Recorded with the first line-up in two hours, First Communion was a promising offering that dove headlong into the world of heavy stoner rock, with three songs going over the 10-minute mark for hypnotic effect. The album eventually saw a proper reissue in 2020, introducing it to a new group of fans. The first change of rhythm section brought Seven Thunders Roar in 2012, which included “I’m the Mountain,” a 13-minute epic that has since become a live staple. The album also introduced a bevy of acoustic guitar and softer vocal approaches from Sydorenko.

The Harvest came next in 2015 with a new drummer, deftly transitioning Stoned Jesus into the new terrain, with more alternative and progressive rock leanings. This is a credit to Sydorenko’s evolving songwriting style and desire to never allow Stoned Jesus to repeat itself. “It works brilliantly for the likes of Motörhead or AC/DC, but we’re not that legendary yet,” he told Outlaws of the Sun in 2015. “So, let’s experiment, shall we? Let’s play with the genres, the sound, the song structures, the melodies, the time signatures — yes, my favorite trick!”

With another change of the drummer, the fourth LP, Pilgrims, arrived in 2018. A bold and experimental record, it showed the growing maturity of both musical and lyrical sides of Igor’s ever-progressing songwriting. After a year-long The Pilgrimage Tour and yet another year on the road celebrating the band’s 10th anniversary with the greatest hits setlist, Stoned Jesus’ original plans were to record its follow-up in 2020. That, of course, was sidelined by the pandemic. The band then entered Spivaki Records in Kharkiv in July 2021 to record nine songs at 75 minutes. Two-thirds of the material was mixed and mastered before the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, leaving the final run-time of six songs at 43 minutes.

The result was Father Light, the band’s first for Season of Mist, which caught Stoned Jesus in full bloom. The foundational elements of Stoned Jesus’s sound remained (fuzzed-out rock, driving bass lines and maximum groove), once again augmented by the combination of Sydorenko’s gentle clean vocals and hook-laden chorus choices, along with an array of ornamental guitar melodies. And, in true Stoned Jesus fashion, the journey is often the reward. The cuts on Father Light expand and shift — all the while, the band’s trademark heaviness serves as the guide.

Mother Dark, the gloomier introspective twin of Father Light, while partially recorded was shelved due to Igor’s dissatisfaction with the working dynamics of the latest Stoned Jesus line-up. Dissolving said line-up was a difficult decision to make, but Igor’s relocation to Europe brought a surprising reunion with his old friend Yurii, a talented drummer Igor had known even before writing the first Stoned Jesus song. Adding bassist-vocalist Andrew Rodin to this new line-up solidified its reliability, and now, after the whole year of relentless 25th Anniversary Tour schedule, the reinvigorated Stoned Jesus is more than ready for their next chapter.

Songs to Sun is the first album in a forthcoming trilogy that once complete, will stand as the pinnacle of what’s been a decades-long trip for Stoned Jesus. While picking up where Father Light left off, Sydorenko and his new mates still nod to Seven Thunders Roar and The Harvest along the way. But by merging metal’s fiery intensity with mind-melting grooves, vintage prog and their catchiest choruses yet, they bring the many distinct phases of Stoned Jesus to a bright, burning head.

Following the breakthrough success of 2023’s Nuclear Blast Records debut Sight To Sound, North Carolina’s burgeoning progressive, alt-metal band STELLAR CIRCUITS have announced their follow up record, Phantom :: Phoenix, will be released on November 14th.

Commenting on the upcoming album, vocalist Ben Beddick says:
“When we were writing this record, one of the things that kept coming up was the idea of death and rebirth through fire. This idea of killing off the old and dead parts of ourselves in order to give birth to something new and maybe even a truer version of who we all are. Every time we write an album, we go into the process with the idea of getting uncomfortable and exposing a more vulnerable part of ourselves. There also seems to be a constant theme of dealing with loss when we’re in the middle of writing.

Everybody went through different periods of loss and grief during this process and I think that it shows through in the subject matter and the sounds that came out of it. We always want to push ourselves to a new place and build on the foundation that we’ve created over the last few years of being in this band. I think that we’ve been able to achieve that with Phantom :: Phoenix. It’s a representation of that cycle and I hope it can act as a catalyst for growth to those who listen.”

Today, STELLAR CIRCUITS has unveiled the album’s first single and opening track, ‘I See Your Spirit,’ which embodies the essence of the record’s theme of revitalization.

Stream ‘I See Your Spirit’: https://sc.bfan.link/i-see-your-spirit

Adding about the single, Beddick states:
“‘I See Your Spirit’ is a song that seems to epitomize the idea behind the album holistically. When I was in the midst of writing the vocals, I woke up in the middle of the night to find my house was on fire. The smoke was so thick I could barely breathe, and the firefighters said that I was minutes away from death.

The effect that this event had on my psyche can’t be overstated. I also thought it was extremely uncanny how this happened when we were in the middle of writing a record containing the theme of death and rebirth through fire. Especially during the writing of a song like ‘ISYS,’ where the chorus has a line that says ‘I see your spirit. It’s like a flame.’

Something about the whole experience and the connection therein just seemed extraordinarily relevant for obvious reasons. To be honest, it was a bit unsettling. The song in itself represents the feeling and maybe even the spirit behind the entire album.”

This Friday, August 29th, Swedish blackened viking metal trio MÅNEGARM will unleash their much-awaited new studio album, Edsvuren, through Napalm Records. Today the trio unveil a lyric video for the new single, “En blodvittneskrans”, streaming now below!

Melding raw aggression, ancient beauty and hypnotic black metal influences, Norse mythology, rites and folkloric wisdom in a relentless frenzy of orchestral finesse – on the battlefield of Viking Metal, only these Swedish legends can emerge victorious with their thunderous anthems. With over 30 years of battle-tested heritage, MÅNEGARM continue to assert themselves as torchbearers of the genre with Edsvuren!

About their latest single, the band states:
“On
”En blodvittneskrans”, we unleash the fury and that is also exactly what the lyrics are about. It’s the fastest and most intense track on the album and the powerful chorus will make you turn the volume up to 11!”

Known for weaving Norse mythology, ancient rites, and folkloric wisdom into an unrelenting metal tapestry, MÅNEGARM celebrate their 30-year career with the release of their most evocative album to date. As one of the leading bands in the genre, they once again bring their inimitable style and the blood oath of viking, black and folk metal back together for an unforgettable and diverse sonic journey. Pensive and dreamy atmospheric monsters meet songs for a proper mead binge – this mixture has brought the band a loyal international fan base and highly acclaimed appearances at prestigious festivals such as Ragnarök and Summer Breeze Open Air.

On their forthcoming studio offering, Edsvuren, MÅNEGARM offer necessary authenticity with the use of traditional Nordic instruments. Guest vocalists Ellinor Videfors and Lea Grawsiö Lindström, who have also supported the band on previous albums, once again provide the perfect contrast between harshness and beauty. On title track “Edsvuren”, singer Liv Hope Lenard joins the wolf pack for the first time and provides one of the album’s most breathtaking highlights. On violin, the acoustic master Martin Björklund is back again, especially shining on pieces like “Rodhins hav”. Edsvuren was recorded and mixed by Pelle Saether at Studio Underground, and was mastered by Sverker Widgren at Wing Studios. The epic cover artwork was created by Kris Verwimp.

NYOS Unveil New Single And Video ‘Superstar’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on August 27, 2025
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Nyos. Leave a comment

NYOS, the lauded Finnish instrumental duo, return with news of their new album Growl, and reveal the next single from the record. Growl will be released 10th October via Pelagic Records.

Pre-order Growl here: https://orcd.co/nyos-growl

NYOS comment on ‘Superstar’: “‘Superstar’ was the working title for the record for a long time (before Growl took over and felt way more fitting) – but it became attached to this song regardless, and we’re excited to release this one as the 2nd single from the album. This one came out super fast during a really fun rehearsal/writing session (during which 4 out of the 9 songs from the record basically came out fully formed all at once) and just instantly felt like a late summer single, so things just worked out perfect – we took a band holiday to Vietnam instead of doing a spring tour this year, and filmed some footage with the idea that it could be the material for our friend Pietu to manipulate into a music video for the song – he absolutely nailed it and we’re thrilled to finally be able to share it… hope you all enjoy it!“

Videographer Pietu Arvola adds: “NYOS’ lads went to Vietnam and provided me with a treasure trove of weird videos depicting things like roosters, ladies dancing outside, Pomeranian taking a nap and a tiny crab chilling out on a spoon. After making some oddball editing and processing the videos with glitchy machines and CRT TVs, the material ended up fitting the kooky atmosphere and rhythms of ‘Superstar’ perfectly.“

Since their formation in 2014, NYOS have carved out a distinctive place within Europe’s experimental and post-rock scenes, characterised by their relentless energy, polyrhythmic complexity, and hypnotic layering.

While still rooted in their signature loop-based approach, Growl is “more ambitious with song soundscapes and compositions”, says guitarist Tom Brooke, naturally embracing a denser, more textured sound with greater attention to atmosphere and tension.

Throughout their discography, NYOS have shown an emotional and tonal shift toward ambiguity — a willingness to dwell in dissonance or delay resolution in favour of sustained tension or tranquil drift. These dramatic shifts can be felt throughout the album, in which the listener is escorted from vibrance to intensity, offering a contrast not in energy, but in clarity.

“We often have a vibe or some ideas we wanna try out”, comments Brooke. “The songs though basically come from jamming – we’ll jam stuff and I record the jams, and then kinda backwards shape them into songs which we then re-record! So often the final structures will be set when doing the first guitar/loop recordings, but the ideas are always all there.”

The result is a dynamic and emotionally complex record that feels like a mature synthesis of everything that had come before. There is a joy in the interplay of Growl, even when the music veers into abrasive terrain.

“Growl is our longest record to date, and when producing it, we were very conscious to make sure it is an album that holds the listener”, states Brooke.

Track-list
1. Get Ready
2. Superstar
3. Lézard Rouge
4. Harder Than Rain
5. Pepe-Pepe
6. Lo4
7. Walking In Moonlight
8. Be Free
9. Alright, Goodnight

Throughout Growl, NYOS remain unmistakably themselves: their hallmark technical precision and sonic inventiveness are ever-present. Harnessing a vast dynamic range, the Finnish two-piece blend moments of fragile minimalism with visceral, precise, and emotionally immersive sound. “I think sonically it has all the characteristics of some of our works, but I think that we both feel like this record is the first time we’ve ever truly managed to capture everything we want”, says Brooke, “all the angles/emotions/vibes came out just as we hoped/imagined.”

As eclectic and exciting as ever, NYOS are a band in continuous motion, unafraid to challenge themselves and their listeners with ever-expanding sonic vocabularies. Growl is an album that is both coherent and seamless in its movement, walking a tightrope between meticulous structure and explosive energy.

NYOS are:
Tom Brooke – guitar
Tuomas Kainulainen – drums
