DYING AWKWARD ANGEL Release New Single ‘Music Kills’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on April 14, 2025
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: DYING AWKWARD ANGEL. Leave a comment

Italian melodic death metal act Dying Awkward Angel unleash their brand-new single “Music Kills”, a powerful mid-tempo composition that highlights the band’s continued evolution while remaining firmly rooted in the legacy of Scandinavian death metal.

Characterized by a raw and uncompromising sound, “Music Kills” draws inspiration from the early ‘90s Swedish scene—specifically, bands such as Dismember and Entombed—and channels the iconic HM-2 guitar tone into a modern, groove-driven framework. The result is a track that is both punishing and memorable, blending brutal riffs, visceral vocals, and an ominous atmosphere.

Lyrically, the song delves into the ambivalent nature of music itself, exploring its potential to both uplift and consume. This thematic depth adds an introspective dimension to the band’s sonic aggression, further establishing their unique voice within the international melodic death metal landscape.

Following their critically praised 2018 full-length “Absence of Light”, “Music Kills” marks a significant step forward for Dying Awkward Angel. While known for their fast-paced and relentless songwriting, the band now embraces a darker, more deliberate approach—one that prioritizes atmosphere and weight without sacrificing intensity.

The release of “Music Kills” also marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter. In the coming weeks, the band will unveil further details surrounding their upcoming full-length album, which promises to expand on the themes and sonic direction explored in this latest track.

For fans of Dismember, Entombed, At The Gates, and all those drawn to the raw edge of melodic death metal, “Music Kills” stands as a compelling statement of intent.

Formed in 1998, Dying Awkward Angel draws inspiration from the ’90s extreme metal scene of Gothenburg, the UK, and the USA, with influences from bands like In Flames, At the Gates, Carcass, Slayer, Death, Pantera, and Metallica. The band’s early releases, “Dying Awkward Angel” and “Ghost at the Spine,” received excellent critical acclaim. After some line-up changes, the band stabilized in 2013 and recorded the full-length album “Waiting for Punishment”.

In 2015, the EP “Madness Rising” showcased a more mature and modern songwriting mixing old-school brutality with melodic incursions. In 2017, with the addition of Michele Spallieri (Kenos) as the vocalist, the band released the album “Absence Of Light” in 2018 (Extreme Metal Music / Rockshots Records), distributed across Europe, the USA, and Japan. Over the years, the band has shared the stage with renowned names such as Impaled Nazarene, **enos, Decapitated, Necronomicon, Forgotten Tomb, and many others.

Line-up:
Michele Spallieri: Vocals
Demuro Edoardo: Guitars,
Lorenzo Asselli: Guitars
Luca Pellegrino: Drums
Davide Onida: Bass Guitar

The Grave That Keeps on Giving! Fade into the Next Phase of WARFIELD’s Deathrock Devotionals

Posted by tarjavirmakari on April 14, 2025

“‘Fades’ is a fun one,” WARFIELD founder Justin Warfield promises. The first single to be taken from the upcoming second volume of his Deathrock Devotionals project, “Fades” rides a pounding bass and drum rhythm, and is possibly the most electrifying of all WARFIELD’s singles to date – that chorus might feel understated, but it’s gonna blow your ears out.

“‘Fades’ started its life in another form,” says Justin, “Then underwent a rewrite and makeover from the ground up. Lyrically and melodically, it was always the same: a bit of a stream of consciousness both following a loose narrative around an individual, as well as exploring some larger themes about impermanence.”

It was WARFIELD bandmate Thomas Froggatt who came up with the bass line that throbs around the vocal – with that in place, Justin continues, “The synths and guitar fell into place. The bridge came out of nowhere, and honestly caught me by surprise.

“Sometimes it’s the little things that come from out of the ether which help make something exciting, original, or give you a spark, because once that was in place, I started playing the chorus guitar, and then everything just gelled together”

And that includes that certain “something about the synth sound… that reminded me of Suicide and Alan Vega, hence the nod and homage in the yelps and howls.”

Like its Volume I predecessor, WARFIELD’s Deathrock Devotionals Volume II is a tribute to, and remembrance of, the early years of goth and deathrock in Los Angeles, a mood upon which the accompanying video also reflects.

Stream the single: https://orcd.co/warfield_fades

Justin continues, “Although Deathrock is a term which has never gone away, and die-hards keep alive culturally as well as musically, to me it’s a very special moment in time, that period which followed the late 70s scene in LA when punks let their artsy inclinations guide them towards the macabre, horror-themes, and a creepier, darker, but equally fast and aggressive sound.

“45 Grave, Super Heroines, Rozz Williams, Patrick Mata…all those people pioneered it, I’m just taking inspiration from them, and using my sensibilities and the continuation of that spirit to make something new, fun, full of energy, and fresh.”

Gothenburg’s DREAM EVIL, the authors of “The Book Of Heavy Metal”, returned loud and strong to the spotlight last year with their seventh studio album “Metal Gods”. Including 10 new songs of pure steel, “Metal Gods” was a first release in 7 long years since the previous “SIX” album and continued the band’s tradition of classic Heavy Metal madness.

DREAM EVIL are now pleased to launch 4 additional and completing songs from the “Metal Gods” sessions via the Digital EP “Thunder In The Night”, including lead guest guitar appearances by Andy LaRocque (King Diamond) on the title-track and Pontus Norgren (Hammerfall) on “Fight For Glory” (Previously a Japanese CD bonus-track). Here is the tracklisting for the release out today:

“Thunder In The Night” EP (15:28 min.):

  1. Thunder In The Night (04:10)
  2. Calm In The Storm (04:11)
  3. Fight For Glory (03:32)
  4. Criminal (03:31)

DREAM EVIL bass-player Peter Stålfors checked in with the following comment about the “Thunder In The Night” EP: “It’s so much fun recording a new album, but sometimes it can be a little bit too much fun… and you record too many songs to fit on one album! That was the case when we released ‘Metal Gods’ last summer. But now the time has come to finally release the remaining four songs from ‘Metal Gods’ sessions on this brand-new EP entitled ‘Thunder in the Night’. Watch out for the guest guitar soloists, Andy LaRocque (King Diamond) on the title-track ‘Thunder in the Night’ and Pontus Norgren (Hammerfall) on ‘Fight for Glory’. It’s not just Heavy Metal, it’s also ‘Thunder in the Night’!”

WAR OF ATTRITION Release Fierce New Single + Lyric Video ‘The Devil You’ve Become’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on April 13, 2025
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: War of Attrition. Leave a comment

Irish metal outfit War Of Attrition return with their most daring and musically ambitious release to date.

Their brand-new single “The Devil You’ve Become” is a defiant and emotionally-charged critique of religious warfare and generational suffering in the so-called Holy Lands, delivered with the kind of raw intensity and unflinching honesty that has come to define this rising force in Irish metal.

Listen to “The Devil You’ve Become” now on all major streaming platforms.

Formed in 2020 amidst the global chaos of lockdown, War Of Attrition emerged from the digital ether with a mission: to make heavy, thought-provoking music that doesn’t pull its punches. Born from the minds of guitarist Ocean McCormack and vocalist Nathan Price, the band quickly evolved into a powerhouse five-piece with the addition of punk-rooted bassist Keith “RC” McNamara, seasoned drummer Damian “Shapes” Smith, and more recently, death metal shredder Andrew Cooke, who joined in 2024.

On ‘The Devil You’ve Become’, War Of Attrition pull no punches. Drawing parallels between historical and contemporary atrocities, the track is a searing indictment of religious dogma, genocide, and the devastating consequences of unchecked power. The band offer an unflinching perspective. one rooted in their own Irish identity and deep empathy for the oppressed, standing firmly in solidarity with Palestine and all those suffering under the weight of colonialism and military aggression.

Musically, the single marks a bold evolution in the band’s sound. Merging melodic sensibilities with their signature aggression, “The Devil You’ve Become” sees Nathan Price blending haunting clean vocals with visceral death metal gutturals, while Ocean’s black metal-tinged backing screams add a feral edge. The result is an electrifying call-and-response that culminates in a climactic final chorus.

Ocean’s guitar work, influenced by Irish legends like Thin Lizzy and Gary Moore, channels a bluesy, emotionally-resonant solo rather than high-speed theatrics, a moment of soulful clarity in the storm. New guitarist Andrew Cooke brings depth and muscle to the track, reinforcing its weight with intricate harmonies and thunderous rhythm lines. Meanwhile, Shapes’ cinematic drumming, complete with marching snares and booming toms, adds a militaristic tension, underscoring the song’s thematic narrative. Keith RC’s grounded, driving bass lines provide the crucial backbone, locking the whole composition together.

Recorded across multiple studios, including The Learning Hub in Limerick, Rekondra Studios, and Ocean’s own Godless Inc, the band intentionally opted for a raw, unpolished feel. Drums and core guitar tracks were laid down live and free of a metronome to retain the natural push and pull of human performance. The result is a track that breathes with organic power, underpinned by the timeless crunch of a 5150/808 guitar tone combo, and mastered by the esteemed Richard Dawling at Wav Mastering Studios.

This release is more than just a new single, it’s a statement of intent. With “The Devil You’ve Become,” War Of Attrition are doubling down on their commitment to speak truth to power and create music that resonates beyond the stage. With their debut full-length album in the works and slated for release in Autumn 2025, the band are poised to take their place at the forefront of modern metal, not just in Ireland, but far beyond.

War Of Attrition
are not here to entertain. They’re here to challenge, to provoke, and to inspire. And “The Devil You’ve Become” is the sound of a band unafraid to stare into the darkest corners of history and scream back.
