Half in California – half in the Netherlands, the instrumental progressive metal-fusion quartet QUADVIUM shares new single and music video “Apophis”, from the band’s upcoming album “Tetradōm”, due out May 30th via Agonia Records. The band was established late 2019 by renowned bass players Steve Di Giorgio (Testament, Death) and Jeroen Paul Thesseling (Obscura, Pestilence).

Watch the video for their new track, here:

“Apophis” marks the second single of QUADVIUM, following the release of “Náströnd” late March (video available here). It portrays a different side of the band’s debut album, both in sound and image. Steve Di Giorgio & Jeroen Paul Thesseling comment: “Yes, indeed this second single is a bit more vigorous than the first one. There are many moods, and various soundscapes across all 7 songs, and with this one we open the portal to our technical aspect. From a mix of dynamics and serpentine exchanges, to a fiery interaction between both fretless basses…The counterpoint patterns, the classical orchestration combined with the heavier parts, «Apophis» slithers between different adventurous melodic structures. The superb guitar lines are masterfully wielded by Eve, who also mainly composed & mixed the album, also blazes one of her trademark solos. Yuma, our master-of-all time signatures, keeps the pace brisk while also presenting one of his more expressive performances on drums for this one. We all are grateful for the enthusiasm and the very positive feedback for our first single («Náströnd») and hereby like to invite you to listen to the second single from our up & coming album «Tetradōm». Really hope you enjoy the adventure, and hope to keep hearing from you as we work our way to the release of the whole album next month!”

Steve Di Giorgio and Jeroen Paul Thesseling are both innovators in bringing a different style of fretless bass playing to metal. Launching a band with two predominantly multi-string fretless bass players is no common occurrence, and the bass-duo felt they needed to take very special and deliberate time to get the right alignment with who is participating and what will be the end result – meaning the right sound and composition to represent this rare vision.

Over time, together with Dutch master drummer Yuma van Eekelen (Our Oceans, Pestilence) and American guitar virtuoso/composer Eve (Myth Of I, Kaathe) – whose contribution and expertise play a huge part of QUADVIUM – the music began to take shape. The line-up is just the right blend to mix the delicate balance of such a heavy aural offering and a full vocabulary of high level constructed pieces.

“We had an intention many many years ago to make some music together… to feature two predominately multistring fretless bass players playing in duet form,” Steve & Jeroen reflect. “That is to say, neither being «rhythm bass & lead bass» nor some trading off hot solo licks mess. But easier said than done! While hanging out, we exchanged some thoughts about how it would be to form a group to support our bass-ic needs. At that time it was just a spontaneous idea, but over the years the topic was brought up again and again. This vision was blurry at best and it took us a long time to not only imagine how to feature the bass in this way, but more importantly – who would share in this concept with us. Yuma is an old acquaintance and lucky for us, he needed this project to add to his list of a thousand others! But having a drummer that understood that 2 bass players would be filling the sonic spectrum, he was undaunted in contributing the backbone as well as keeping our outlandish ideas in check. After a long search for the next musician, a gold mine was found on Instagram reels by the name of Eve. Some of the most insane guitar (and bass!) videos we ever saw inspired us to ask if this was a project worth joining… not only did we have our final member aboard, but a studio genius and the main composer of this strategy we had so long ago, who brought it all together and focused everything into the album we are so proud to share with you now. Thanks to the solid support from Agonia Records for supporting our dream and making this album a reality! Fans of instrumental progressive metal fusion – and fretless bass! – will surely enjoy these musical journeys.”

“Tetradōm” was recorded and produced by Eve and co-produced by Yuma van Eekelen. The album was mastered by Dereck Blackburn at Quiethouse Recording. Travis Smith (Amorphis, King Diamond, Cynic) created the album’s artwork and layout.

CYHRA Unleash Powerful New Single And Video ‘Mark Of My Sins’

Swedish melodic metal supergroup CYHRA (featuring AMARANTHE co-founder Jake E and current THE HALO EFFECT, KAMELOT, THE CROWN, and SUBURBAN TRIBE members) are continuing to take the metal world by storm with the release of their new digital single ‘Mark Of My Sins.’ While the group are composed of legendary musicians, ‘Mark Of My Sins’ proves that CYHRA are no mere supergroup, but instead a band that produce music on par with anything they have previously released. A high bar, but one that they consistently meet. This is the sound of a band levelling up: Massive riffs, stadium-sized hooks, and a chorus that refuses to leave your head. Heavy, melodic, and packed with raw intensity, this song is built to be played loud.

Frontman Jake E comments: “‘Mark Of My Sins’ is one of the most powerful songs we’ve ever written. It’s raw, intense, and full of emotion – everything we love about CYHRA. This track dives deep into the struggles we carry and the strength it takes to rise above them. We couldn’t be prouder of how it turned out, and we can’t wait for you all to hear it.”

The song is accompanied by a powerful video directed by Patric Ullaeus who has produced videos for ARCH ENEMY, IN FLAMES and won a Norwegian Grammy (Spellemannprisen) for directing ‘The Serpentine Offering’ by DIMMU BORGIR. A cinematic music video featuring the band navigating a tense, war-like conflict in an urban setting, where vocalist Jake E takes the lead in a quiet, determined struggle for control.

About CYHRA

As they approach their 10th anniversary next year, CYHRA have carved out a notable place in the metal scene since their founding in 2016 by Jake E (formerly AMARANTHE) and Jesper Strömblad (THE HALO EFFECT, formerly IN FLAMES). They were soon joined by drummer Alex Landenburg (KAMELOT, Luca Turilli’s RHAPSODY), guitarist Euge Valovirta (SUBURBAN TRIBE), and bassist Peter Iwers (THE HALO EFFECT, formerly IN FLAMES). Their debut album “Letters To Myself” was released in 2017 to glowing reviews, catapulting the group to global stages, crowned with a massive North American tour supporting SABATON and KREATOR.

Following Iwers’ departure, Valovirta also took over bass duties, and the band released their second album “No Halos In Hell” in 2019, which blended groovy metal with a poppy flair and featured the hit single ‘Out Of My Life,’ amassing about 11 million streams on Spotify. Their success continued with a European tour with BATTLE BEAST, UK dates alongside DELAIN, headline shows in select countries including Finland and Japan, and performances at major festivals like Masters of Rock, Bloodstock Open Air, Sabaton Open Air, and 70,000 Tons of Metal.

In 2020, guitarist Marcus Sunesson (RONNIE ATKINS, THE CROWN) joined, expanding the line-up. The pandemic pause allowed the band to craft their third album “The Vertigo Trigger,” released in 2023. The album’s tour brought them back to Finland to open for SMASH INTO PIECES and to headline shows in early 2024. Quietly beginning their fourth album, CYHRA ended the cycle with a Scandinavian tour with EVERGREY, leading into 2025 with two new singles, ‘Superman’ and ‘Skin From Bones.’

Progressive metallers Jack The Joker are excited to share their new single and accompanying video, “Denied” out now via Frontiers Music Srl.

Stream “Denied” HERE

The band commented on the new track by saying: “Denied brings a rare combination of a melodic “prog” tune with direct regional music influences to us here in the Northeast, more specifically the Maracatu. The song is a social examination of the inequality of opportunities that plagues our country; the abysmal difference between those who come from different realities”.

Jack The Joker is a modern progressive metal band with a twist, hailing from the Northeast of Brazil. The band consists of Raphael Joer (vocals) Felipe Faco and Lucas Colares (guitars), Gustavo Pinheiro (bass), and Vicente Ferreira (drums).

The band is notorious for incorporating traditional influences from their local culture, including musical styles such as maracatu, forró, baião and frevo.

Their sound draws inspiration from the eponymous renowned Brazilian novel and explores the metaphysical backlands, where human will prevail against the hostility of nature.

The instrumental arrangements delineate the environment by fusing regional genres with rock and metal to create a landscape that mirrors the themes in the lyrics.

This captivating musical odyssey has already garnered a significant amount of buzz in the prog scene through the first two singles released in 2024.

The musicality of “Denied” is structured in the rhythmic cells of maracatu, an Afro-Brazilian tradition that carries the marks of struggle and celebration. The pulsating beats breathe life into the song, creating an intense and emotive atmosphere.

Line Up:
Vocals – Raphael Joer
Electric/Acoustic Guitars – Felipe Facó e Lucas Colares

Canadian hard rock heavyweights Sven Gali have announced the release of a ferocious new live album, captured during their sold-out performance on Friday the 13th, September 2024, at the world-famous El Mocambo in Toronto. The record captures the band at full throttle in one of the most iconic rock venues on the planet — and it’s set to drop on another Friday the 13th: June 13, 2025.

With a history as loud as the amps that have powered it, The El Mocambo has hosted some of the most legendary names in rock: The Rolling Stones (who recorded their now-famous 1977 live set there), Stevie Ray Vaughan, U2, The Ramones, Blondie, Elvis Costello, and more. Sven Gali now joins that elite club with a performance that’s raw, unfiltered, and undeniably heavy.

“Recording at the El Mocambo was a full-circle moment for us,” says frontman Dave Wanless. “The energy of the crowd, the history of the venue, and the rawness of the night are all captured in this album. It’s a testament to our roots and our evolution.”

“A REAL live album from one of Canada’s finest. Recorded at the infamous club where April Wine, Coney Hatch and a little band from England called The Rolling Stones all recorded killer live albums. This is no exception. Like their shows, this needs to be played at maximum volume for maximum enjoyment.” – Celtic Bob (Metal-Rules.com)

The live album features a thunderous setlist focused on the band’s gold-certified 1992 self-titled debut, delivering full-throttle versions of the songs that made Sven Gali a household name on MuchMusic and beyond:

  • “Under the Influence” – 1993 MuchMusic Heavy Metal Video of the Year
  • “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore” – Top 10 Canadian single and #6 CanCon song of 1993
  • “Tie Dyed Skies” and “In My Garden” – fan favorites with iconic video rotation
  • Plus a searing live cover of Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades”. The video for this is here: https://youtu.be/Vpyl_OOAFyk

Recorded live with Dave Wanless (vocals), Andy Frank (guitar), Shawn Minden (bass), Sean Williamson (guitar), and Dan Fila (drums), the album captures Sven Gali doing what they do best: delivering heavy music with zero compromise and total conviction.

As a special thank you to fans, every purchase or pre-sale of the new live album before June 30, 2025, will be automatically entered into a one-of-a-kind contest to win an official Sven Gali Gold Album Award — the real deal, issued by Music Canada, celebrating their 1992 self-titled record going gold. This isn’t a replica — it’s the same style of award that hangs in industry offices and band studios. One lucky fan is going to own a true piece of Canadian rock history.

Street Date: Friday the 13th, June 2025

…AND OCEANS Explore Metamorphosis in Motion on New Single ‘Förnyelse i Tre Akter’

While they’ve always ebbed and flowed between different extremes over the course of the past 30 years, on their upcoming seventh album, …and Oceans are surging onto the scene with their most expansive experiment in symphonic black metal. The Regeneration Itinerary melds black and death metal with symphonic, industrial and electronic elements, plus inspiration from Paulo Coelho’s best-selling novel The Alchemist.

Blending the band’s avant-garde legacy with their raw intensity, the third single off their upcoming new album is inspired by theatrical transformation and existential revelation. “Förnyelse i Tre Akter” (“Renewal in Three Acts”) tells the tale of a reclusive performer who glimpses a new world beyond the stage—a powerful metaphor for shifting perspectives and inner awakening. As described by vocalist and lyricist Mathias Lillmåns, the song is “about seeing things in a different light, how to rearrange your perspective in three acts.”

The performance video for “Förnyelse i Tre Akter” was premiered on Black Metal Promotion’s YouTube channel.

The Regeneration Itinerary comes out May 23rd on Season of Mist. Pre-order & Pre-save at https://orcd.co/andoceanstheregenerationitinerary

“Förnyelse i Tre Akter” echoes the spirit of …and Oceans’ early era while also injecting a sharper death metal edge, creating a sound that is both nostalgic and forward-reaching. The song echoes the broader themes of duality and personal regeneration found throughout The Regeneration Itinerary.

“This is more in the vein of old 90’s …and Oceans”, says guitarist Timo Kontio, “but this time I did some different riffing. Some say it’s more in the death metal style, which might be true.”

The performance video for “Förnyelse i Tre Akter” was filmed and edited by Aarni Visuals

Chaos chameleons. Nocturnal shapeshifters. The skyward trajectory of idiosyncratic Finnish extremists …and Oceans has been serpentine and sublime.

Since rising in 1995 from the ashes of death metal outfit Festerday, the group’s esoteric take on extreme music has seem them draw on a gamut on contrasting elements, ranging from black and death metal to classical, industrial and EBM, forever questing through various line-up changes, defying expectations while remaining wholly true to themselves.

“We’ve never been tied to one particular genre,” explains founding member, guitarist Timo Kontio. “As a band, we are driven to explore, to traverse unfamiliar landscapes, while always preserving our core sound. It’s about striking a balance. There’s the constant need in this band for renewal and ambition, but never at a cost to our identity.”

The group’s earliest albums, The Dynamic Gallery of Thoughts (1998) and The Symmetry of I: The Circle of O (1999), combined bombastic synth-driven salvos, blisteringly raw guitars, piercing banshee shrieks and ornate gothic arrangements in eviscerating wrath-fuelled blasts, while several celestial passages and near-dungeon synth segues already demonstrated the band’s need to mix things up.

A more seismic shift came in the mutant forms of A.M.G.O.D. (2001) and Cypher (2002), which saw …and Oceans transmogrify into a crushing cybernetic colossus, bulldozing into dystopian anti-futures with batteries of scalding techno beats and chugging palm-muted malevolence.

Accompanied by frontman Kena Strömsholm’s android syntax, the band’s dark heart now pumped corrosive hydraulic fluids around digital membranes, its symphonic black metal supercharged by martial industrial rhythms and infectious melo-death grooves.

The metamorphosis intensified with an interim rebrand as …and Oceans disbanded and its members reassembled under the name Havoc Unit in 2005, a vehicle for further mechanised contagions and noise worship, issuing their sole full-length, h.IV+ (Hoarse Industrial Viremia), in 2008.

But throughout these detours the mournful essence of …and Oceans’ singular universe endured, gathered together by a lamenting thread, a dolefulness unique to the Finnish scene, borne emphatically in the impassioned guitars of Kontio and his axe-wielding brother-in-arms, Teemu Saari. “Melancholia is everywhere, it’s in all the music that I make, especially my lead work,” elaborates Kontio. “It’s a key factor, distinctive to the whole …and Oceans catalogue.”

The band’s insatiable thirst for reinvention would subsequently find sustenance in its 90s roots, recasting the symphonic pomp of the past in the ardent furnace of experience and experimentation. Reconvening under the …and Oceans banner in 2017, the resulting brace of albums – Cosmic World Mother (2020) and As in Gardens, So in Tombs (2023) – redefined the group once more with ornate epics brimful of deliciously grim Karelian melodies and the chimerical atmospheres of keyboardist Antti Simonen, while new vocalist Mathias Lillmåns, replacing the departing Strömsholm, reinforced ties to black metal’s second wave with his devastatingly toxic rasp.

Now, 30 years on from their auspicious birth, …and Oceans have unveiled their most accomplished statement yet. A flamboyant distillation of the group’s grand nocturnal art, The Regeneration Itinerary assimilates all their hopes, dreams and influences into an uncompromising document of ravenous intent, with inebriating stylistic hybrids such as ‘Inertiae’ and ‘The Form and the Formless’ seamlessly fusing the heady onrush of symphonic black metal to the bludgeoning pulse of Simonen’s trance-dance hypnosis.

“The new album can be seen as a synthesis of our entire back catalogue,” suggests Lillmåns. “But there are new levels of extremity, too, ones that we’ve never reached before. These songs simply demanded harsher vocals. The riffs commanded it, and who am I to disobey?”

“This is our most experimental album since our comeback,” states Kontio. “It might be considered a continuation of the music we made in the 90s, but the sound has ripened and developed as our individual tastes have broadened, our inspirations subconsciously feeding into the band’s sound, necessitating change. From the very start, this band has encouraged progression and growth.”

Representing an intrepid summation of …and Oceans’ extraordinary journey, their continuing evolution, The Regeneration Itinerary locates the band’s dramatic thaumaturgical blends within a conceptual framework of opposites (and opposition).

“The Regeneration Itinerary explores the interplay between darkness and light, chaos and order, spiritual and material realms, with each song embodying an experience for the mind and body, navigating a passage to the present moment,” explains Lillmåns.

“The album works like a guide,” he continues. “Teaching us that not everything can be defined as simply being ‘good’ or ‘bad’, ‘light’ or ‘dark’, ‘copper’ or mercury’, underscoring the perpetual dance of dualities in the human experience.”
