Metal band A SOUND OF THUNDER has joined forces with writer Dan Abnett to unleash a theme song for RAI, the cyborg samurai from the comics published by Valiant Entertainment! A preview of the song was previously released, but now the full lyric video is available for your eyes and ears to enjoy!

Featuring lyrics by the acclaimed comic book writer, the lyric video for the catchy song “Break Free (Theme From Rai)” features artwork from RAI #1-5 by Juan José Ryp and Andrew Dalhouse. The debut issue is on sale now at comic shops everywhere and this track is the perfect soundtrack for the post-apocalyptic adventure.

“Break Free (Theme From Rai)” is offered exclusively through the band’s Kickstarter as a companion to their new album Parallel Eternity. The cyborg samurai’s single also comes with an exclusive RAI #1 variant cover by Paul Pelletier, which is an homage to Derek Riggs’ cover for Iron Maiden’s album Somewhere in Time. The limited edition variant is available with the modern trade dress (500 copies) and classic trade dress (200 copies).

A SOUND OF THUNDER Vocalist Returns From Injury With New Album

A SOUND OF THUNDER vocalist Nina Osegueda was in a near-fatal car accident in July. After a period of uncertainty Nina and band are back and have announced their new album Parallel Eternity. The album will be released in February 2020 and is available for pre-order exclusively on Kickstarter now. The album cover is by long-serving A Sound of Thunder artist Dusan Markovic.

Osegueda sustained serious injuries when her car was struck by a commuter bus. Her vehicle was rolled and crushed by the impact. Though she suffered multiple bone fractures, she luckily escaped without any spinal cord damage or internal injuries. After being confined to a wheelchair for several weeks and intensive physical therapy, she has now made a near full recovery. Osegueda comments: “That accident made me feel like I’m on borrowed time. I’m so grateful to be alive and well! It only solidified my desire to make music and keep going as long as I can!”

Parallel Eternity marks A Sound of Thunder’s tenth anniversary. To celebrate, the band collaborated with composer Brad Charles of Magic Giraffe Soundworks to create an album of orchestral metal. The centerpiece of the album is the fifteen minute epic track “Explorer”. Written and demoed in 2008 by guitarist Josh Schwartz, the timing was finally right to tackle this massive undertaking for the band’s 10^th anniversary with a full orchestra to elevate the song.

Guitarist Josh Schwartz comments: “Every band needs their epic; their “Rime of the Ancient Mariner” or “2112”. “Explorer” is ours. It takes you on a journey from metal riffage to delicate acoustic passages, and through a whole range of emotions.The addition of Brad’s orchestration takes the song to a level of power and grandeur that we haven’t achieved until now.”

The album will also feature fan-favorite songs reimagined with full orchestration. The track list will include new versions of “Els Segadors(The Reapers)”, “Udoroth”, “Queen of Hell”, “Time’s Arrow” and more.

Parallel Eternity is available for pre-order now in digital, regular CD, deluxe 2CD digipak, and splatter vinyl formats. A number of other items including a deluxe oversized album booklet, art prints, t-shirts, bonus tracks and more are available exclusively on Kickstarter. Backers can also get their names in the album credits and get early access to the album by supporting the Kickstarter campaign.

A Sound of Thunder is a heavy metal band from Washington, DC. They are best known for their cover of the Catalonian anthem “Els Segadors (The Reapers)” which was a Top 40 hit in Europe and won an Independent Music Award for Best Metal Song in 2018. The band was an early adopter and pioneer of crowd-funding and has successfully created music (including two Billboard-charting albums), animation and graphic novels on a 100% independent basis with the support of their fans.

BLAZE BAYLEY To Guest On New A SOUND OF THUNDER Album

Washington, D.C.-based heavy metallers A SOUND OF THUNDER have entered Assembly Line Studios in Virginia with producer Kevin “131” Gutierrez (SHINEDOWN, WHILE HEAVEN WEPT, DECEASED) to begin recording their third full-length album, “Time’s Arrow”. Due in early 2013, the CD will feature 11 new songs combining rousing and catchy traditional metal with crushing modern production.

“Time’s Arrow” will feature a guest appearance by Blaze Bayley (IRON MAIDEN, WOLFSBANE), who will perform a duet with A SOUND OF THUNDER vocalist Nina Osegueda in the track “My Disease”.

“Blaze is a legendary figure in the history of metal, but more importantly he brings incredible power, passion and sincerity to his performances, and that’s exactly what we needed on this song,” said A SOUND OF THUNDER guitarist Josh Schwartz. “Musically it has little in common with MAIDEN, and sounds more like a cross between BLACK SABBATH and Blaze‘s first few solo albums… and, of course, A SOUND OF THUNDER.”

Commented Bayley: “It has been a real pleasure to work on this song. Filled with passion and intensity, it has an edge. I wish A SOUND OF THUNDER the very best of luck with their project, but with a song this good, I don’t think they will need luck.”

On August 20, A SOUND OF THUNDER started a Kickstarter.com fundraiser campaign for the recording of “Time’s Arrow”. The campaign will run for 30 days and offers fans a chance to pre-order the album, have their name printed in the album booklet, reserve an ultra-limited box set edition of the album, and acquire unique and rare items from the band.

A SOUND OF THUNDER will release the “Queen Of Hell” EP in November. Also recorded at Assembly Line Studios with Gutierrez, the effort contains four new tracks and is only available via the band’s Kickstarter.com campaign.

A SOUND OF THUNDER is offering its “Queen Of Hell” EP exclusively through Kickstarter.com. The EP serves as a follow-up to the 2012 studio album, “Out Of The Darkness”, and teaser for the band’s next studio CD, “Time’s Arrow”, due in spring 2013.

“We’ve always wanted to do an homage to the classic fantasy and swords & sorcery themed metal album covers,” says Osegueda. “As you can see, we’ve gone all horns up with the ‘Queen Of Hell’ art… I finally have the throne of skulls I’ve always wanted!”
