Classicrockmagazine.com have revealed that former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley has confirmed the release of his first solo album in five years.
“Space Invader” will be launched via eOne Music on June 23, featuring bassist Chris Wyse (The Cult) and drummer Matt Starr (Burning Rain).
Frehley says: “Life on Earth has been good to me. The body of work I’ve created over the years has withstood the test of time. Today I see no obstacles before me and my creativity has never been more fine-tuned.
“Growing up in an alien world has enhanced my senses and allowed me to success where others would have failed. The best is yet to come.”
The follow-up to 2009′s “Anomaly” includes nine original tracks plus a cover of Steve Miller’s ‘The Joker.’
On the February 21st installment of Eddie Trunk Rocks, which airs on New York’s Q104.3 FM, former KISS guitarist ACE FREHLEY confirmed that he will NOT be performing with KISS at the band’s upcoming induction at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Trunk has checked in with a recap of the conversation:
“Exclusive new late tonight. Ace Frehley called into my radio show live tonight and confirmed that he and Peter (Criss) are being denied the opportunity to perform at the R&R Hall Of Fame ceremony by Gene (Simmons) and Paul (Stanley), who will perform instead with the current band. Ace said (and the HOF confirmed to me directly) that the HOF wants the original band. However, Gene and Paul to date have declined to allow this to happen. Ace said it was important he let the fans know exactly what was happening since tickets are about to go on sale to the public and he didn’t want fans to purchase them expecting a reunion performance even for a song or two. Ace said he is undecided if he will even attend in light of this decision.
Even though the HOF would prefer the original band, they will not stand in the way of the current band playing if that is all Gene and Paul are willing to do. Assume anything is possible that something could change, but at this time there are no plans at all for Ace and Peter to play, or perhaps even be there depending what they decide. As I have said consistently when there was news to share I would let it come directly from a member, and tonight Ace let everyone know exactly what was going on. Said he was most upset for the fans who voted them in and were hoping to see a song or two, but also said it is now time to move on.
He is working on a new album and said the stress was really killing him about the HOF and he needed to let fans know what was up before tickets went on sale. Peter will likely have a similar statement on his site tomorrow. I’ll continue to keep you posted as more info develops but that’s where things are at now. I’m sure the audio will be on YouTube of Ace’s call but you can hear the entire show next weekend as usual on all affiliate stations and online outlets as well. Sad day for long time KISS fans but at least we know where things stand as of now.”
Frehley is quoted from the interview as follows:
“I don’t think KISS fans are gonna be too excited and happy about the news, ’cause at this juncture, Paul and Gene have decided to perform with Tommy (Thayer) and Eric (Singer), and it looks like the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is going along with it.”
“It is what it is. I don’t completely understand it, but those guys do a lot of things that don’t make sense to me. It’s unfortunate for the fans. We’re being inducted because of the fans. And I feel like the fans are being let down. And I’m upset about it; I’ve gotta be honest with you. But I’m trying not to let it get to me because, like I said, I’ve gotta finish my new record and I’ve gotta think positive. And I wanna move forward. But it’s upsetting.”
Stay tuned for updates.
Joining KISS in the 2014 class of inductees are NIRVANA, PETER GABRIEL, HALL AND OATES, CAT STEVENS, LINDA RONSTADT, ANDREW LOOG OLDHAM, BRIAN EPSTEIN, and THE E STREET BAND.
Paul Stanley commented: “The spirit of rock and roll for me has always meant following the paths I choose regardless of what my critics or my peers think. For 40 years KISS has built an army that apologizes to no one and I’m honored to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame knowing we have remained true to ourselves and our fans.”
Said Gene Simmons: “To the KISS Army, Ace, Peter, Eric Carr, Vinnie, Mark, Bruce, Tommy and Eric Singer, Bill Aucoin, Doc McGhee and to my partner of 40 years, the ever youthful Paul Stanley… and all the members of the KISS Family. This honor is for you. 40 years of Rockin’ and still going strong.”
Former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick states: “I woke up today with the amazing news that KISS has been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame! Well it’s about time! I know the fans spoke, and they listened. When you think of how influential this band has been, and how KISS is so strongly loved by fans all around the world, those who run the R n R Hall of Fame finally got it right! Fans of KISS, this award is about you as much as the band. You could no longer be ignored! Now go crank up your favorite KISS album right now!”
The artists’ induction ceremony into the Hall Of Fame will take place April 10th at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

After years of petitions, angry letters and actual protests outside the museum in Cleveland, KISS are finally entering the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame next year. The instant the news hit, many in the KISS Army wondered whether Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley would perform with estranged bandmates ACE FREHLEY and PETER CRISS on the big night.
RollingStone.com’s Andy Greene spoke with Frehley about the event. An excerpt is available below:
Q: Tell me your first reaction to the news that Kiss made it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Ace: “It’s such an honor. I’m so excited. I learned about it last night when my assistant called me. I didn’t sleep very well afterwards.”
Q: Did the news surprise you?
Ace: “It surprised me, but when I saw all the people we were up against I had a feeling we were going to make it in…It should be a great evening. I’m really excited and looking forward to the night.”
Q: You have no hesitation about walking back onstage with Paul and Gene?
Ace: “Not at all. I think it will be great. I think it will be great for the fans to witness and a lot of fun. I recently performed with Peter at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York for Eddie Trunk’s 30 years in broadcasting celebration. That was a lot of fun. I hadn’t performed with Peter in 12 years. We all still have it.”

Original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley was interviewed on this past Friday night’s (November 1) edition of Eddie Trunk‘s “Eddie Trunk Rocks” radio show on tNew York’s Q104.3 FM. A few excerpts from the chat follow below (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).
On possibly being inducted — along with his fellow original KISS members — into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame next spring:
Frehley: “I’m happy that I’m gonna be inducted — most likely — next year, in April, in New York City, and it should be a great event. There’s no way [KISS bassist/vocalist] Gene [Simmons] can put a lid on it. I mean, what’s he gonna do?”
On Gene Simmons‘ recent comments in an interview in which he compared being in a band with Frehley and original KISS drummer Peter Criss to having “cancer in your system” which must be cut out “as fast as you can”:
Frehley: “I don’t know what’s up with Gene. He used to say to me in the ’70s, every time I did something stupid, he’d go, ‘Ace, you’re shooting yourself in the foot again.’ Well, he’s been shooting himself in the foot for years.
“Gene‘s living in the past. He’s become a caricature of himself. I mean, from the very beginning, his only motivation was money. The guy has no friends; he’s not respected by his peers; he’s pissed off thousands of fans; he’s never had a hit single, like I’ve had. I had the most successful Gibson signature-series guitar in history. He didn’t. It goes on and on. He took the safe route: he never got loaded, he never partied. I took the same route Elvis Presley took and [Jimi] Hendrix and Keith Richards and Jim Morrison… it’s endless. I have all this life experience and thank God I can live to talk about it. What’s he gonna talk about? All he can do is badmouth other people.”
On his refusal to appear in what’s being billed as the definitive KISS documentary, “You Wanted The Best You Got The Best”, an officially sanctioned film which is being directed by Alan G. Parker:
Frehley: “I don’t know. I found it very weird that, instead of getting a call from Gene or [KISS manager] Doc McGhee or [KISS guitarist/vocalist] Paul [Stanley], because they’re behind this documentary, instead of getting a call from them, I get a call from my bodyguard, and he got a call from KISS‘ bodyguard about me doing an interview for this documentary. They tried to go through the back door — probably because they don’t wanna pay me any money, as usual, and it left a bad taste in my mouth, and I just passed on it. You want me to do a documentary? Let me know how much money you’re making, give me my fair share, and I’ll sit down and talk. You don’t wanna do it that way? Forget about it… If KISS is behind the documentary, Paul and Gene are making the lion’s share of the funds.”
On reports that he is fighting a foreclosure action on on his home in Yorktown in Northern Westchester County, New York, 35 miles from New York City, the $735,000 mortgage on which the guitarist reportedly stopped paying on March 1, 2011:
Frehley: “I left the house over two and a half years ago. My attorney is taking care of it. It’s not in foreclosure. Things got blown out of propotion. Somebody didn’t take care of what they were supposed to do. And my attorney is taking care of it. But, basically, I’m out in California now, and I have people living on that property, taking care of it, and they’ve been showing it to people who are interested in possibly purchasing it. And the whole thing was kind of a misunderstanding.”
On how he likes living in California:
Frehley: “I’ve lived in New York my whole life. A lot of people used to come out to California and say, ‘Hey, what are you doing? You are a traitor.’ But since I’ve been out here, I don’t see myself coming back. I like the climate. I couldn’t do the winters anymore. Once you hit 60, it’s, like, get me outta here.”
