SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser has issued the following update:
“So, we just came back from another amazing run in Europe, the third time we do a tour for Kairos in Europe and it has been a great time. Kairos did very well for us, kept us going stronger and the partnership with Nuclear Blast proved to be a successful one. We stayed for a month doing shows at big festivals and sweaty packed clubs around the old continent playing and celebrating the 29 years of a career. But not everything was nice and easy. Our drummer Eloy Casagrande had an small accident at his drum set during a show in France. He smashed his finger on the snare and blood was everywhere. He managed to finish the set but his finger was in bad shape. He went to the hospital, had some stitches and the doctor demanded total rest. Next day, we tried to play the gig with our drum tech Dede but it didn’t work, we had to cancel the show. But fortunately our tour manager, Rienk knew a drummer that lived not far from where we were. His name was Kevin Foley. Rienk called him and next day he was with us. Kevin did an amazing job, playing Sepultura stuff from all phases and with great attitude. Thank you Kevin, you rocked!!
When we were on the road we heard about the shocking news about Jeff Hanneman, I didn’t expect that at all. My impression was that he was getting better and soon we will be able to see him killing with SLAYER again, it was so sad. The Sepultura family will miss him deeply, without Slayer, Sepultura would never be possible. Thanks for all the inspiration and the great music Jeff, RIP. Eloy had to stay away from the stage for eight to ten days but he came back to finish the tour. He came back strong and hungry, it was a great way to finish a tour right before going to the studio to record our next album. In June we will be in Los Angeles recording the new stuff with Ross Robinson and Steve Evetts for an October release. Can’t wait to do this one, is going to be our strongest work ever. We have 13 songs ready to go plus two covers, one from DEATH and another one from the Brazilian group CHICO SCIENCE E NAÇÃO ZUMBI. I will keep you all posted on the recording, DESTROY!!!”
Brazilian heavy metal guitarists Andreas Kisser (SEPULTURA) and Kiko Loureiro (ANGRA) joined the UPTOWN BAND on stage last month during the Garanhuns Jazz Festival in Garanhuns, Pernambuco, Brazil. You can watch professionally filmed video footage of their appearance below.
Kisser‘s solo debut, “Hubris I & II”, was nominated in the “Best Brazilian Rock Album” category at the 2010 Latin Grammys.
“Hubris I & II” was released in June 2009 via Holland’s Mascot Records. A two-disc set, the self-produced effort was recorded in part at A Voz do Brasil studio in São Paulo.
Kisser was honored with a commemorative brick with his name on it, placed in the wall in front of Liverpool, England’s legendary Cavern Pub, in a ceremony which took place on his 44th birthday, August 24, 2012. He is the first Brazilian artist to have his name eternalized in the Cavern wall that became famous when THE BEATLES made their first lunchtime appearance on Tuesday, February 9, 1961.
Kiko‘s latest solo album, “Sounds Of Innocence”, was released in Japan at the end of June 2012 and was made available in the rest of the world in July 2012. The CD features guest appearances by Virgil Donati (PLANET X, STEVE VAI, SOUL SIRKUS) on drums and Felipe Andreoli (ANGRA, ALMAH) on bass. One track also features LIVING COLOUR bassist Doug Wimbish. The effort was produced by Kiko Loureiro, mixed by Dennis Ward and mastered by Jürgen Lusky.
SEPULTURA guitarist performed with the Brazilian THE BEATLES tribute act CLUBE BIG BEATLES on September 27 at Teatro do Sesi de Jardim da Penha in Vitória, Espírito Santo, Brazil. Fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be seen below.

Cavern club owner Bill Heckle said: “Andreas has played here before, including at last year’s festival, with the CLUBE BIG BEATLES tribute band. But I just didn’t realize who he was and how big a name he is, until I found out he’s bringing two Brazilian TV documetary crews with him this time.
“I mentioned it to some other people and they were gobsmacked that I had never heard of SEPULTURA, but that area of music has never been something I’ve followed properly.
“We thought we’d better give Andreas his own brick, as he is actually so famous. He is like a God among metal fans, but he is a very nice, unassuming guy.”
Kisser said: “It’s beyond a dream for me to be here. There isn’t a bigger possible honor than being here and jamming at the Cavern Club, the most historic place in Liverpool.”
Metal Hammer‘s Amit conducted an interview with vocalist Derrick Green and guitaristAndreas Kisser of Brazilian/American thrashers SEPULTURA before their August 10 performance at the Bloodstock Open Air festival at Catton Park, Derbyshire in the United Kingdom. You can now watch the chat below.
On SEPULTURA‘s plans for the remainder of 2012:
Andreas: “We’re going to Indonesia and Malaysia, we’re going to South America still, and we’re doing a cruise at the end of the year — Barge To Hell — which will be very interesting. And then we’re gonna stop. We’re already thinking about new ideas for the next album, so probably next year we’re gonna have something new going on. We have also plans to record a DVD with the French percussive group [Les Tambours Du Bronx], [with] which we did a show at [the] Wacken [Open Air] festival [in early August] — old SEPULTURA, new SEPULTURA music with them. And that’s the plan — finsi the year on a high note.”
On what SEPULTURA‘s new, 21-year-old drummer Eloy Casagrande has added to the band:
Derrick: “Definitely the fact that he’s young and that energy helps a lot. He’s a very disciplined drummer — he’s been playing since he was seven. And he’s been doing a lot of things by himself and playing with different people, and that’s really, really impressive. He had a lot of things put together before we even met him; he’s already done so much. And I think with us, a combination us together, it’s a great learning process for him to grow and at the same time, we’re learning a lot from him, so we can do this together. And this is something extremely important when you’re doing a band that’s been together for so long, to have this connection. And we felt this connection with him immediately. And we could tell that he was very focused and very committed to doing extremely good music.”
Casagrande joined SEPULTURA as the replacement for Jean Dolabella, who left the band because he could no longer handle being away from home for long periods of time.
Eloy is a 21-year-old drum prodigy from São Paulo, Brazil who won the Modern Drummer “Undiscovered Drummer” contest as a teenager in 2006.
Dolabella left SEPULTURA after a five-year run of relentless touring and two studio albums. He joined SEPULTURA in 2006 following the departure of the band’s original drummer, Igor Cavalera.
SEPULTURA is touring in support of its 12th studio album, and Nuclear Blast Records debut, “Kairos”, which hit stores in July 2011.
SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser joined German thrash veterans KREATOR on stage this past Friday (May 25) at the Rock In Rio Lisboa festival in Lisbon, Portugal to perform the songs “Extreme Aggression” and “People Of The Lie”. Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be seen below.KREATOR‘s new album, “Phantom Antichrist”, will be released on June 1 in Europe and June 5 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden with renowned producer Jens Bogren (OPETH, KATATONIA, SOILWORK, DEVIN TOWNSEND, AMON AMARTH).

SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser is featured in a new interview with Cobra Metal. An excerpt is available below:
Cobra Metal: The past couple of Sepultura albums have been concept albums. Dante XXI was based on The Divine Comedy, and A-Lex was based on A Clockwork Orange. Fill us in on the concept behind Kairos.
Andreas: “It’s almost like we picked up our own biography (book) and did an album based on ourselves. But more or less what it is…we talk about (in the lyrics) our family, our fans, traveling, labels and managers you know. Everything is there. Musically also, a little bit of everything that we ever did; all the thrash, all the death metal stuff, with the percussion and Brazilian influence. A little bit of everything is there. We worked with Japanese groups and now we’re working with a French percussive group which is amazing and totally different and stuff. I guess the concept is Sepultura itself and what we are today. The momentum and what matters. We respect our past, it’s a very rich history you know? Twenty-eight years, then coming from Brazil and doing such crazy things (laughs) that we always dreamed! And we’re still here. Regardless of the changes inside the band like members leaving or different labels and managers. Also the outside, technological changes that in this last 28 years brought us from vinyl to CD to download so quick! (laughs) From fax machines to fucking iPhones! (laughs) And we’re still here. So that’s the parallel with what we are as a band. We respect our history but we are here now and that’s what matters and it’s cool to have so many songs to choose from.”
Cobra Metal: Sepultura is in its 28th year of existence. Derrick has been in the band for 15 years now. Is the concept behind the new album a statement, “This is Sepultura, and there’s no need to reunite with Max or Igor”?
Andreas: “People have a very hard time to understand that there’s nothing dead growing. Like a reunion. We’re going down a totally different path. That’s what Sepultura is all about. That’s our spirit. We started that way and we are keeping it that way. We’re going after new things and enjoying learning new things.”
As previously reported, Sepultura has been confirmed for this year’s Wacken Open Air and they will be joined by some guests, LES TAMBOURS DU BRONX, featuring sixteen drummers from France. According to organizers, “this combination from heavy metal sounds and this incomparable percussion ensemble can only be seen two times in the whole world in this year.”
Founded in 1987, Les Tambours Du Bronx beat 225 litre barrels with beech wood bats or even axe handles. In more than 1000 concerts they’ve smashed about 16,000 barrels and more than 110,000 broken ‘drum sticks’!
