For Canada’s The Metal Voice former Anthrax Singer Neil Turbin spoke to Armored Saint/ Ex-Anthrax singersinger John Bush at the Rock for Ronnie 2025 concert on Sunday, May 18 at Autry Museum in Griffith Park for Ronnie James Dio Stand Up & Shout Cancer Fund.
When asked about how busy Armored Saint has been touring in the last few years “Well we did a lot of work last year. We played the with WASP, we did that run twice and then we did some shows with Queensryche a couple years back. We’re doing some dates in Britain with WASP which is going to be amazing as we get to play at Hammersmith Odeon, which I’ve never done. It’ll be fun. And then we’re doing like 10 shows with Michael Schenker here on the West Coast into Texas and then we’re putting a record (New Armored Saint) record out next year So new Saint record will come out next year.”
When asked if he is doing more shows today with Armored Saint then when he was in Anthrax “Well I mean we did a lot. What happened was when I left Anthrax I also had a daughter and so it was like to me it was synergy for me to stay home and help raise my kid and and take a break from being on the road all the time and and I welcome that. And then after they grew up, now my daughter will be 21 this year my son’s 18 and they just don’t care if I’m around, I shouldn’t say that of course they do. But my daughter’s in college in Ohio . She came to the show when we played in Columbus which was killer right and her and a bunch of friends that kept the crowd going. So it’s all fine it’s better to tour now as they’re older and I didn’t miss a lot of their life and that was important to me.”
When asked about a poorly attended Dio show where Anthrax was on the bill at the Greek Theater in LA ” I was a very disappointing of the attendance of that show. It was Dio and Anthrax (on the bill) and it still was as poorly attended. I say that candidly cuz I’m honest about stuff but it was disappointing cuz I love the Greek theater as it is one of my favorite venues in the world. And I was like what the why is it empty this is ridiculous? ”
Band To Celebrate 40th Anniversary Of Delirious Nomad With Limited Edition Dean Guitar, Special Live Sets, And More!
Following two festival performances – Bangers Open Air in São Paulo, Brazil and Sonic Temple Festival in Columbus, Ohio respectively – heavy metal icons ARMORED SAINT will enter the studio next month to begin recording their long-awaited ninth studio album, tentatively slated for a Spring 2026 release through Metal Blade Records.
In September, the band will join W.A.S.P. for a trio of UK shows before returning to the States to support legendary guitarist Michael Schenker on his My Years With UFO US Tour. ARMORED SAINT will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of their second album, Delirious Nomad, with a five-song micro set of songs from the record throughout the tour.
To further commemorate the cornerstone record, the band is making available a special Delirious Nomad wrapped guitar from Dean Guitars. Each guitar is signed by the band. Presales will be announced in the coming week.
Elaborates vocalist John Bush, “What up, Saints? We want to give you all a heads up with what’s happening with us this year. First, we’ve been writing songs for the upcoming new record, and we are just about done! We are going into 606 Studios next month to record drums for five songs. The plan still stands for an early Spring 2026 release. We have two rad festivals dates in May: Bangers Open Air and Sonic Temple Festival. Then we’ll be joining our friends, W.A.S.P., for three shows in Britain in September which includes Newcastle where we’ve never played and London at the Eventim Apollo — formerly the legendary Hammersmith Odeon. We are psyched!
“Then we’ll do nine more shows in the US in October with one of the best rock guitar players to ever walk the earth: Michael Schenker. We will be doing something special on these particular dates. In conjunction with the 40th anniversary of Delirious Nomad, we will be playing micro sets from that record. We’ll play other classic SAINT tunes as well of course!
“Finally, we will do three headlining shows at the end of this tour in El Paso, Texas, where we haven’t played since 1984, Las Vegas, Nevada, and at the infamous Glass House for the first time ever in Pomona, California. Lots on the plate. Thanks for all the love as always.”

The night began like so many I’ve done. Standing in line, talking with fans, explaining why I have my camera bag, and realizing that the music, and bands I love are still loved by so many others. It was cold as we stood in line talking about memories of our favorite shows, and the memorabilia we have collected over the years.
My credentials arrived, and I was ready to enter the venue and upon entry the vibe was pure electric. So many friends in the business were there and it was great catching up with everyone as we waited for the show to begin.
Up first was ARMORED SAINT. Emerging onto the Los Angeles Heavy Metal scene in 1982 and have released 8 studio records, and two live records. The band has had the same lineup since 1990. That is nearly unheard of today in the music business.
John Bush and crew took the stage, and the crowd instantly ate it up. The band was tight and strong! Their energy was contagious. Fans were on their feet with horns held high. I must admit, I hadn’t seen the band in decades, and I don’t like to view videos before I shoot a band. They performed as if it was their last set ever. Later in the show, Bush took to the crowd. In the upper balcony, he handed out fist bumps to eager fans waiting to just get close to the charismatic singer. He then mingled among the lower deck crowd giving the same love to those fans that had stood by them for decades. The band ended their night with the same thunderous energy as they opened with. If you have any doubts about seeing the band, rest easy my metal friends, Armored Saint can hang with the very best. I left the setlist out for a reason, GO SEE this well-oiled machine, you will not be disappointed!
Next up was W.A.S.P. They came this time to perform their 1984 debut record in its entirety. Another band that emerged onto the Los Angeles Heavy Metal scene in 1982. They immediately gained notoriety for their shock image and blues infused straight forward rock n roll based Heavy Metal. With songs like I Wanna Be Somebody, School Daze, Sleeping in the Fire, and L.O.V.E. Machine, the band solidified their spot among the very best Los Angeles had to offer.
This night was like stepping back in time. One only had to close their eyes to be transported back to those days when the world was filled with electricity and heavy metal riffs. The V.I.P. fans were in the crowd clutching their prized signed items from meeting Blackie before the show. Blackie sounds amazing and it was so good to see him on his feet and lively. He did not disappoint. With his signature mic stand Elvis, being an extension at times of the formidable frontman. He, along with his brothers in W.A.S.P. delivered a set that mirrored those of the 80’s. It has been said that heavy Metal is dead, all I can tell you is to get your tickets and see for yourself. It is very much alive and well and this show will have you ‘On your Knees’ begging to go back to those ‘School Daze’! W.A.S.P. is bringing their A game, proving to all that W.A.S.P.’s ‘Torture never Stops’.
Thank you to: W.A.S.P.: Blackie Lawless, Doug Blair, Mike Duda, and Aquiles Priester ARMORED SAINT: John Bush, Joey Vera, Jeff Duncan, Phil Sandoval, and Gonzo Sandoval
ARMORED SAINT will join W.A.S.P. on their upcoming North American trek this Fall. The Album One Alive Tour commences on October 28th in Portland, Oregon and makes its way through over three dozen cities across the US and Canada. The journey comes to a close on December 14th in Los Angeles, California. Additional support will be provided by Unto Others.
Comments vocalist John Bush, “ARMORED SAINT is super excited to be joining W.A.S.P. again on another North American tour where we’ll be playing Canadian cities like Vancouver and Quebec City, which we haven’t played since 1985, and Calgary (Go Flames!!), which we’ve never played! It’s also been years since we’ve played awesome cities like Minneapolis, Salt Lake, and Wichita and we can’t wait to hit places like Little Rock, Boise, and Spokane for the first time ever!
“Alas, let’s not forget to mention amazing venues like the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City and the incredible Hollywood Palladium. Thanks to [W.A.S.P.’s] Blackie [Lawless] and the guys for taking us out again. We’ll be punching the sky every day!“

Earlier this Summer, ARMORED SAINT unveiled a brilliant rendition of “One Chain (Don’t Make No Prison).” The classic track was originally written by Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter and was first released by People in 1970. Additional covers include The Four Tops (1974), Sanatana (1978), and The Doobie Brothers (1989).
Said Bush, “[Bassist] Joey [Vera] came up with the idea of doing the song. We’ve always been huge fans of old school soul and R&B music so it was a no brainer. It’s got a great groove, perfect for our rhythm section, and Jeff [Duncan]’s and Phil [Sandoval]’s guitars are screaming. Plus, the cool lyrics make it ideal for the ‘SAINT style. Levi Stubbs [The Four Tops] was such a rad singer; I just tried to do him justice. I think this would make him a metal fan!“

Revelation is the fifth studio album from the band, originally released in 2000 on Metal Blade Records, now available for the first time on vinyl in the US. The song “The Pillar” was originally written for the 1992 horror film Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth where the band makes a cameo appearance as a bar band performing the song “Hanging Judge” at the Boiler Room club.
Recalls bassist Joey Vera, “The story for ‘The Pillar’ was that sometime in 1991 we were approached by the producers for Hellraiser to write a song for the end credits of the movie. They had already agreed to give us the song ‘Hanging Judge’ and a part in the film. So we wrote ‘The Pillar’ which later they passed on and instead they decided to go with Hell On Earth by Motörhead. If we’re gonna lose out, better that it’s by Motörhead!“
ARMORED SAINT‘s Revelation was produced by Vera with executive producer Brian Slagel, mixed by Bill Metoyer, mastered for Vinyl by Patrick W. Engel at Temple Of Disharmony in March 2024. The record will be released on double LP, featuring the bonus track “No Me Digas,” in various color variants.
