Kicking the door open into 2023, BLACK STONE CHERRY have revealed a brand-new song, “Out of Pocket.” The song is out now via Mascot Records/Mascot Label Group and is available on all streaming platforms. You can listen to it below.
The song drops in time for fans to get pumped up for their upcoming co-headline UK arena tour with British rockers The Darkness, which begins at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena on the 28th of January and ends in London at the Wembley OVO Arena on the 4th of February.
“Out of Pocket” is the band’s first new song since the release of their 2020 album The Human Condition and is another trademark rocker from their locker. Emotionally rousing with a roof-raising battle cry chorus, it shows the band at their anthemic best. The lifelong friends Chris Robertson, vocals/guitar; Ben Wells, guitar/vocals; and John Fred Young, drums, welcome their new bass player Steve Jewell on his first studio recordings, having slayed the stages with them over the past two years.
Talking about the song Chris Robertson says, “Out of Pocket is a song born out of that exact feeling. The song was what I personally, and I think a lot of us, felt over these very trying last couple of years. Facing your demons, knowing that you have to come out the other side stronger than before.”
Over the past two decades, the Kentucky Southern rockers have shaken stages from arenas to festivals across Europe, bringing the good times every time. In 2021 they fulfilled a lifetime ambition of playing London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall, bringing an incredibly emotional and powerful performance. Now it’s time to blow the roof off those arenas once again.
Black Stone Cherry have 2023 firmly in their sights and are taking it, lock, stock and barrel.
On Wednesday 29 September 2021 – the year of the band’s 20th Anniversary – Kentucky’s favourite sons, BLACK STONE CHERRY, realized their childhood dream of playing at the legendary Royal Albert Hall, London. Sat on the stage at the iconic Victorian building, singer-guitarist Chris Robertson pauses, looks around and says, “When you’re a kid, and you see your heroes’ playing places, and then all of a sudden you find yourself sitting on the stage, it’s pretty emotional. But we’re gonna royally rock it this evening. You better believe that.”
Watch “Blame It On The Boom Boom (Live from the Royal Albert Hall)” below, taken From Live From The Royal Albert Hall… Y’All OUT TODAY Via Mascot Records / Mascot Label Group.
Throughout the set they tear through an impressive back catalogue, playing songs from their most recent studio album ‘The Human Condition – “In Love with the Pain,” ” and the previously released live tracks “Again” and“Ringin’ in My Head” – through to their biggest hits and fan favourites. “Blind Man,” “Hell and High Water,” “Blame it on the Boom Boom,” and “White Trash Millionaire” rock the building alongside moments of tenderness such as the touching rendition and emotional performance of “Things My Father Said.”
Talking about playing the Royal Albert Hall, drummer John-Fred Young said, “To be honest, I was terrified. It was heavy walking in there. You think about how many great acts have played this place. The prestige behind it. We’ve wanted to play the Royal Albert Hall since the first UK tour in 2007.” He continues, “Dudes from the middle of the country in Kentucky to go out here and have built an amazing group of people that we care about and come to our shows and support us. To know that with all that hard work and dedication we have put into Black Stone Cherry, we’ve accomplished something here. Walking in that place, it’s just breath-taking. You walk on that stage, and you say, we did it, and it’s a feeling that I will cherish for the rest of my life.”
On the Blu-Ray, the live footage is dotted with behind-the-scenes interviews, fly on the wall footage and archival insights into the band as kids first starting out, snippets of their first ever UK tour and heartfelt moments of reflection. But ultimately Live From The Royal Albert Hall… Y’All was about bringing rock ‘n’ roll to London, Kentucky style, and they tore the roof off that mother.

Watch “Again (Live from the Royal Albert Hall)” here:
The song is taken from their 2020 album The Human Condition and talking about it they say, “When we wrote “Again” at the twelfth hour in the studio, we never imagined hearing that first chorus being sung by so many voices inside the hallowed RAH. It’s one of our favorite songs to play live, and this is a memory that will last a lifetime.”
Throughout the set they tear through an impressive back catalogue, playing songs from their most recent studio album ‘The Human Condition – “In Love with the Pain,” “Again”, and the previously released live track “Ringin’ in My Head” – through to their biggest hits and fan favourites. “Blind Man,” “Hell and High Water,” “Blame it on the Boom Boom,” and “White Trash Millionaire” rock the building alongside moments of tenderness such as the touching rendition and emotional performance of “Things My Father Said.”

And they don’t disappoint as they open with the explosive “Me and Mary Jane.” From clubs to arenas and Festival headline performances, no one puts on the kind of show that these boys do. Hit after hit – it’s all killer – the rapturous crowd roar back. Black Stone Cherry was one of the first international bands to tour the UK following the Covid19 lockdown restrictions being eased, and they gave every single fan in there that night a euphoric dose of happiness.
They tear through an impressive back catalogue, playing songs from their most recent studio album ‘The Human Condition – “In Love with the Pain,” “Again”, and “Ringin’ In My Head” – through to their biggest hits and fan favourites. “Blind Man,” “Hell and High Water,” “Blame it on the Boom Boom,” and “White Trash Millionaire” rock the building alongside moments of tenderness such as the touching rendition and emotional performance of “Things My Father Said.”

The band have always belonged to the fans and vice versa, which is why when you hear those songs emanate from the stage and then sung back, every fan in the world can close their eyes and remember either being there or imagine being there and the sheer joy and pride in the boys for realising a dream.
New band member Steve Jewell Jr replaces founding bass player Jon Lawhon and criss-crosses the stage with Ben Wells and Robertson projecting boundless enthusiasm. This is a band absolutely revelling in playing together, and it comes across in each song.
“We’ve headlined Wembley Arena, we’ve headlined festivals, but you walk into this place, and it’s different. I remember watching footage of Zeppelin here, and now we’re here,” Robertson reflects.

BLACK STONE CHERRY and Mascot Records / Mascot Label Group present the official music video for “Ringin’ In My Head,” from the band’s most recent album THE HUMAN CONDITION. The album is a massive global success with over 43.5 million cumulative streams, with Ringin’ In My Head now approaching 3 million. The official video was directed by Tom J. Flynn and Mike Watts (Vudu Studios) and can be screened below.
The clip was filmed on the Young family farm in Edmonton, KY. The location might be familiar to some viewers via the session for the Magic Mountain packaging and publicity portraits captured on the land, and most notably the Kentucky Headhunters’ video for “Walk Softly On This Heart Of Mine” which was filmed partially in the same barn forty years ago. Chris Robertson shares, “In 2020, when The World seemed to be falling apart, an older song we had started a few years earlier struck a nerve with us. Lyrically it seemed too close to the times not to try and make the song something special. The result is guaranteed to give you a Ringin’ in your head.”
On August 27, 2021, Black Stone Cherry and Mascot Records released an expanded edition of the band’s seventh studio album The Human Condition digitally. Amongst the new recordings was a cover of Tracy Chapman’s classic “Give Me One Reason.” The official music video can be screened here: https://youtu.be/kcOhH9CbPRc. At the time, the band shared, “Tracy Chapman’s voice and songs are absolutely timeless. We have always been fans of her music, especially ‘Give Me One Reason’. Chris has always sounded so great singing this song, so we decided to record a quick version in the studio.”
The album was completed mere days before the COVID-19 lockdown was imposed and as events progressed, it became apparent that the album the Kentucky band were completing featured lyrics that were eerily prescient. At the time of the album announcement, drummer John Fred Young offered, “There was a real urgency and fear of the unknown during those sessions – it was a scary time. Every song on this album tells a story of the experiences we all go through – our happiness, our struggles, and how we have to adapt.”
In September and October, the band will stage a tour of Europe: 12 Sep E-Werk, Cologne – Germany 13 Sep Q Factory, Amsterdam – Netherlands 14 Sep Markethalle, Hamburg – Germany 17 Sep Rockefeller Music Hall, Oslo – Norway 18 Sep Debaser Hornstulls Strand, Stockholm – Sweden 19 Sep Amager Bio, Copenhagen – Denmark 21 Sep Metropol, Berlin – Germany 22 Sep Arena Wien, Wien – Austria 23 Sep Barba Negra, Budapest – Hungary 24 Sep Tonhalle, Munich – Germany 26 Sep Alcatraz, Milan – Italy 27 Sep Xtra, Zurich – Switzerland 28 Sep LKA Longhorn, Stuttgart – Germany 30 Sep Santana 27, Bilbao – Spain 01 Oct Razzmatazz, Barcelona – Spain 02 Oct La Riviera, Madrid – Spain 04 Oct Rocher De Palmer, Bordeaux – France 05 Oct Trianon, Paris – France
