French Symphonic metallers WHYZDOM have released a new music video for the song ‘Dancing With Lucifer’, taken from their latest album ‘Blind?’. This special version of the song features the band’s new front woman Marie Rouyer, who joined Whyzdom a few months after the album release, and who has been touring with them through Europe since early 2013. With her wide range, her flawless technical abilities (from rock to lyrical and even extreme vocals), as well as her theatrical presence, she gives a new edge to Whyzdom music. The video, inspired by Goethe’s Faust character, was shot with the assistance of Les Créations Vultus and X-Nihilo Design (France).

The band, known for their own signature approach to Symphonic Metal, which features intricate orchestral parts (including all the subtleties of strings, winds, brass, classical percussions, piano, harp etc.) and a real choir with the power of Heavy Metal, released ‘Blind?’ in 2012 and they are currently putting finishing touches on a new album to be announced soon.
IRON KNIGHTS is a British Heavy Metal outfit. Although the roots of the band can be traced back to 2008, the real change that has lifted the band to new heights took place at the end of a European support tour with VICIOUS RUMORS in May/June 2013. From the original IRON KNIGHTS, bassist Paul ‘Beam’ Robbie and drummer Larry Paterson were the sole survivors. Their respective musical journeys have been linked since they formed their first band in New Zealand in 1983: AFTERMATH. Since then they have appeared in numerous bands, both in New Zealand and the UK where they eventually relocated at separate times over the decades that followed. Amongst the various musical adventures that followed, they were both members of UK bands Metalhead and Chokehold, after which Larry spent years with former IRON MAIDEN vocalist Blaze Bayley.
IRON KNIGHTS have gone through various band member changes, but now have an established lined up. They have toured the length and breadth of the UK, as well as accompanying VICIOUS RUMORS on their European Tour. On 14th September 2013, the band played in Andernach, Germany, as part of the Swordbrothers Festival, followed by a support show with ULI JON ROTH and DIAMOND HEAD.
The band played 8 UK shows during February and are scheduled for more shows starting on April 30th in order to promote the forthcoming album. More information can be found at this location.

A few years ago, when I heard Nightwish for the first time, the first thought that came to my mind was “Wow! Symphonic music with metal music? Is that possible??” After learning some more of this genre I found out that it’s become one of my favourite metal genres, for the power and the intelligence that make it what it is. Whyzdom are a French symphonic metal act (Frankly, in the first place it sounded like a traditional polish name to me, perhaps for my familial origins), and this is their second LP.
For me the album is a fresh and fine piece of symphonic metal, made of traditional technical riffs and double-bass drums with a fusion, as usually, of melodic (occasionally quite emotional) keyboards and mumbling choirs (If anyone understands the words spoken in this parts, I salute them) in the back. The one to command it all with her magnificent voice is Elvyne Lorient, the band’s new singer; her voice feels like a blend of Epica’s redhead (Simone) and Nightwish’s original brunette (Tarja) to me.
I heard nearly nothing new in the album, but yet it was a gladdening experience to hear some modern symphonic metal being played so well with such talents. The guitar works are very tight with rather heavy sound and the keyboards are felt, but not all along the songs; many times it is overwhelmed by the orchestra and the guitars. The bass works are unfelt most of the time (bass, you know…) but when they are it is a fiesta to the ears! Every note hits just where it should, and the short bass-led bridges can make a whole difference in a section of a song, greatly upgrading it with a fine touch of the low clef.
I must commend the C part in the first track “The Lighthouse”, with its creepy bass track and wonderful orchestration that goes right into a well written and performed guitar solo. The main riff is another thing that is not common to hear, with the guitar taken to the back in the process of production.
The album is very long, with 77:33 minutes in length. I felt that the playing time is a weak point of it, for no matter how good a song or a riff is if it goes for too long it will vex the listener.
Yet still, I consider this release an excellent album, one I can imagine being played and replayed on my personal playlist. The tight production, that one can feel its lack of compromising in every part of a song, is a great plus for the album. Go get it!

The album title not only refers to the blindness of people towards what’s happening around them, but also to the fact that we, as humans, often deliberately choose to be blind in many uncomfortable circumstances, which eventually lead us on the wrong path of life. ‘Blind?’ was produced by Vynce Leff, recorded and mixed in Paris at Powermania Studio and mastered by Mathieu Gillon and Vynce Leff at 120dB Studio. The stunning artwork is the result of a collaboration between X-Nihilo Design, Les Créations Vultus and Florent Cuaz, who gave real life to Whyzdom’s visual universe.
