Nuclear Blast has issued that the Finnish metal superstars CHILDREN OF BODOM have named their 8th studio album “Halo Of Blood” and have unveiled the album artwork. Coverart was created this time by Sami Saramäki (Follow The Reaper, Are You Dead Yet?, Hate Crew Deathroll).
Mastermind Alexi Laiho commented: “Halo Of Blood is the 8th studio album from Children Of Bodom and believe it or not but we still managed to keep it fresh and new while still maintaining the elements that make COB sound recognizable. Its got the fastest and the slowest song we ever made and lyrics wise there are themes we had never had before. Its 10 new songs of pure nordic metal and wether you enjoy it with a beer or a glass of water, I’m sure you will have a good time.”
Bass player Henkka Seppälä states about the artwork: “We wanted to have a winter scene. Somehow it fits Well with the atmosphere of the music and the composing session. It could be lake bodom actually, frozen, with people trapped under the ice. Very Finnish looking scene. We were really happy how Sami created the whole imagery!”

Nuclear Blast has issued that the Finnish metal superstars CHILDREN OF BODOM, who are currently busy in their own studio in Helsinki, recording ten new tracks for the upcoming 8th album release, now report from the recording desk to give an update on the sessions.
Bassist Henkka Seppälä comments: “Last night I finished my parts in making the record. We listened to all the songs and fixed what had to be fixed. So the bass tracks are in. So are the basic tracks for guitars, from both Roope and Alexi. And of course drums were recorded first. So next in line is guitar melodies and solos, and then laying down the keyboards. Then it’s time for vocals. We are ahead of schedule and very happy to work here inHelsinki for the first time ever. I’ll update you again when we are further in recording.”
Regarding the fact that the record is being recorded on the band’s own premises, front man Alexi Laiho states: “It’s a nice change to the regular method where we lock ourselves up at a studio inthe middle of the woods, usually also during the darkest time of the year. However, we did track drums at the tried-and-tested Petrax studio in Hollola this time as well, so we got our fix of that modusoperandi too. But for the guitar and bass, we don’t require a big facility in the countryside, so we decided to stay closer to home for this part of the session.”
Laiho is currently in the final stages of writing the lyrics. Beginning of February, renowned Swedish producer and musician Peter Tägtgren (PAIN, HYPOCRISY) will join the band for the vocal and keyboard recordings.
Commented Alexi: “It will be great to have Peter come over for a good stretch this time so we can really concentrate on the vocals. At the moment, I’m done with the lyrics for two tracks: ‘All Twisted’ and ‘Slowdance On Nails’.So far all the other tunes go by working titles such as ‘Moto GP’, ‘FC Pettymys’, ‘Kananmuisti-ilmiö’ and ‘Trondheim’.”
Moreover, COB-guitarist Roope Latvala has announced stronger participation in the song arrangement than before: “In my opinion many guitar parts could be made more interesting and balanced with just minor tweaks.” Alexi confirms: “Roope did voice his opinions more than usual this time around. And maybe the others, too. As far as the actual question goes, the usual rule applies: all good ideas are taken into consideration.”
Dyed-in-the-wool COB fans will be happy to hear that the band will keep up their tradition of hilarious cover versions. As to this, Alexi reveals: “We will be doing our versions of songs by BANANARAMA and ROXETTE, and a track chosen for us by the readers of the Japanese magazine Burrn.”
The yet-untitled album is scheduled for a summer 2013 release via Nuclear Blast.
Finnish metallers CHILDREN OF BODOM are hard at work at an undisclosed location in Helsinki recording ten new tracks which will comprise the band’s eighth album.
“It’s a nice change to the regular method where we lock ourselves up at a studio in the middle of the woods, usually also during the darkest time of the year,” CHILDREN OF BODOM guitarist/vocalist Alexi Laiho tells Soundi magazine. “However, we did track drums at the tried-and-tested Petrax studio in Hollola this time as well, so we got our fix of that modus operandi too. But for the guitar and bass, we don’t require a big facility in the countryside, so we decided to stay closer to home for this part of the session.”
Laiho is finishing up the lyrics for the songs so that they are ready when phase 3 kicks in at the beginning of February. Swedish producer Peter Tägtgren (PAIN, HYPOCRISY) will then travel over for a period of ten days to oversee the keyboard and vocal recordings.
“It will be great to have Peter come over for a good stretch this time so we can really concentrate on the vocals,” Alexi says. “At the moment, I’m done with the lyrics for two tracks: ‘All Twisted’ and ‘Slowdance On Nails’. So far all the other tunes go by working titles such as ‘Moto GP’, ‘FC Pettymys’, ‘Kananmuisti-ilmiö’ and ‘Trondheim’.”
In in-depth interview with Soundi last September, CHILDREN OF BODOM guitarist Roope Latvala expressed interest in taking a more prominent role in the arranging of the band material.
“In my opinion many guitar parts could be made more interesting and balanced with just minor tweaks,” Roope said, perhaps inspired by his recent work with Finn composer Anssi Tikanmäki‘s national anthem album project.
Has this comment led to Alexi giving the former STONE axeman more leeway and responsibility in the fine-tuning of the songwriting process?
“Now that you mention it, Roope did voice his opinions more than usual this time around,” Alexi says. “And maybe the others, too. As far as the actual question goes, the usual rule applies: all good ideas are taken into consideration.”
The new CHILDREN OF BODOM album may also feature a special guest appearance, as Alexi reveals exclusively to Soundi, where he was once again named “Musician Of The Year” in the annual readers’ poll.
“I played on ANNIHILATOR‘s album ‘Metal’ in 2007, so the way I see it, [ANNIHILATOR mainman] Jeff Waters owes BODOM a solo or two! It’s payback time.”
And finally, CHILDREN OF BODOM wouldn’t be CHILDREN OF BODOM without some new off-the-wall cover tracks recorded during the sessions for later use as bonus tracks for the as-of-yet untitled disc, due out before the summer.
“We will be doing our versions of songs by BANANARAMA and ROXETTE, and a track chosen for us by the readers of the Japanese magazine Burrn!” Alexi says.
