Due out on vinyl and digitally on August 19th in Europe, “Excised And Anatomised” will also be available at CM Distro on bone-white vinyl (exclusive version, limited to 100 copies). All songs on “Excised And Anatomised” were recorded at the band’s own Evocation Studios with Dan Swanö handling mixing and mastering at Unisound Studios. The cover and layout were once again created by Xaay, who previously worked with EVOCATION on their last two studio albums. The end result not only pays homage to other death metal legends, but also acts as a tribute to the scene that EVOCATION has been part of since the band’s founding in 1991.

“The Inheritance” is receiving amazing press feedback and has amongst others scored the “Album of the month” honors in the current issue of Germany’s Rock Hard magazine with a fantastic 9,5 out of 10 points review. The album also came in on soundcheck position # 2 in The Netherlands’ Aardschok magazine with a 80 out of 100 points review, position # 4 in Germany’s Legacy magazine with a 14 out of 15 points review and position # 8 in Germany’s Metal Hammer magazine with a 5 out of 7 points review.

Recently Metal Shock Finland‘s Tarja Virmakari had a chance to interview Dan for Louder Than Hell. He spoke about his personal music tastes and how WITHERSCAPE was born. Dan Swanö checked in to comment on “Dead For A Day” as follows: “Dead For A Day” is one of those songs that just wrote itself. I was strumming on the acoustic guitar one morning and it just poured out of my fingers. At first I had no idea what to do with the song since I felt it was perhaps a bit too commercial for WITHERSCAPE, but after I played the demo to Ragnar he insisted that it must be on the album! I love how the song moves between the mellow verses à la “Crimson I & II” to the more brutal, yet melodic chorus, in the tradition of “Uncreation” and “Twilight” through the groovy but “undanceable” 9/8 section that leads to one of Ragnar’s best guitar leads of the album.”

Century Media Records have announced that WITHERSCAPE, the stunning new atmospheric and progressive dark metal outfit formed by Swedish singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer extraordinaire Dan Swanö together with fellow Swedish multi-instrumentalist Ragnar Widerberg, have confirmed to be releasing their debut album “The Inheritance” on July 29th, 2013 in Europe and August 6th, 2013 in North America.

Dan Swanö checked in to comment about the song as follows: “Astrid falls” is one of my many favourite songs on the album. It represents the WITHERSCAPE sound in a good way. It’s showcasing the clean and growling vocal interplay and the overall “vibe” of my and Ragnar’s playing as well as the dynamics of our songwriting.” WITHERSCAPE marks the long overdue return as active composer and recording artist for Dan Swanö in the world of extreme Metal, after having mostly been involved on the studio mixing end of things in these past years. According to Swanö, WITHERSCAPE has been in planning for a long time, spawned as a result of his working relationship with Widerberg, which began at a Swedish music store. The two multi-instrumentalists discovered that they had so much in common musically that brainstorming for a full-on metal project of their own was the next logical step. Widerberg quotes acts like earlyJUDAS PRIEST,RUSH, KING CRIMSON or MERCYFUL FATE as far as his inspirations in regards to WITHERSCAPE and Swanö elaborates his list to also include JUDAS PRIEST (1975-1989), VOIVOD,QUEENSRYCHE, RUSH,MARILLION and MERCYFUL FATE.

It’s with great pride and joy that Century Media Records can announce to have signed a longterm worldwide deal with Swedish singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer extraordinaire Dan Swanö.
Most dedicated metalheads will not only be able to call themselves owners of certain releases by one Dan’s many outstanding bands/projects (Edge Of Sanity, Nightingale, etc.), but also the work at his own Unisound studio will surely have left a mark in everyone’s record collection at some point: Opeth, Katatonia, Dissection, Merciless, 59 Times The Pain, Dark Funeral, Hail Of Bullets, Marduk, Millencolin or Nasum, to name but a few… Anyhow, Swanö has been no stranger to Century Media Records: He was originally involved with the Death Metal supergroup Bloodbath (also featuring members of Opeth and Katatonia), who released the “Breeding Death” EP as well as the amazing first two albums, “Resurrection Through Carnage” and “Nightmares Made Flesh” via CMR. Most recently, Swanö has been heavily working again as producer and mixer of albums, also including releases by Century Media Records artists like Asphyx, Grand Supreme Bloodcourt, Oddland or Morgoth.
Dan Swanö had the following to say about the signing: “It’s been 23 years since I signed my first ever record-deal, but never before have I been this excited… I have now signed with Century Media Records! I bought the first release from Century Media back in 1989, and it is amazing to see how much the label has grown over the years.
After working with CM for a few compilation CD’s and for two and a half albums with Bloodbath, I knew it would be the perfect home for me whenever I felt like returning to the recording-industry as a performer again. And now…I am back! With a vengeance!!!”
The first result of the freshly started co-operation between Dan Swanö and Century Media will be the release of his newly founded Metal outfit WITHERSCAPE, which sees Dan teaming with another talented multi-instrumentalist, Ragnar Widerberg, creating an intense concept-album, which should musically please not only fans of earlier Swanö-works like “Moontower” or Edge Of Sanity, but also attract friends of progressively atmospheric contemporary Metal in the vein of Opeth or Amorphis. Swanö comments on the upcoming WITHERSCAPE album as follows:
“I have just completed the final mixes of the first album from my new project WITHERSCAPE. Fans of my “Moontower” album and the catchier parts of EDGE OF SANITY won’t be disappointed! I sing, both clean and growl, play drums and keyboards. Ragnar Widerberg plays all guitars & bass and has co-written almost all the tracks with me.”
