WITHERSCAPE: “The Inheritance” Enters Charts In Germany; New Song & Track-By-Track Video Online

WITHERSCAPE, the stunning new dark metal outfit formed by Swedish singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer extraordinaire Dan Swanö (ex Edge Of Sanity, Bloodbath, Nightingale, etc.) together with fellow Swedish multi-instrumentalist Ragnar Widerberg, have now released their debut album “The Inheritance” all over the world via Century Media Records. The album just entered the official sales charts in Germany on position # 97. Congratulations! Yet another taste of the album can be experienced by checking out the newly launched song “The Math Of The Myth“ on Century Media’s Soundcloud page.

EVOCATION: Premieres Cover Version Of CARCASS’ “Corporal Jigsore Quandary”

According to Century Media, Sweden’s EVOCATION is now ready to release a new EP, entitled “Excised And Anatomised”, featuring five cover versions of metal classics! Due out on vinyl and digitally on August 19th in Europe, “Excised And Anatomised” will also be available at CM Distro on bone-white vinyl (exclusive version, limited to 100 copies). See below for the EP’s track-listing:

All songs on “Excised And Anatomised” were recorded at the band’s own Evocation Studios with Dan Swanö handling mixing and mastering at Unisound Studios. The cover and layout were once again created by Xaay, who previously worked with EVOCATION on their last two studio albums. The end result not only pays homage to other death metal legends, but also acts as a tribute to the scene that EVOCATION has been part of since the band’s founding in 1991.

WITHERSCAPE, the stunning new dark metal outfit formed by Swedish singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer extraordinaire Dan Swanö together with fellow Swedish multi-instrumentalist Ragnar Widerberg, is releasing their debut album “The Inheritance” NOW in Europe.

“The Inheritance” is receiving amazing press feedback and has amongst others scored the “Album of the month” honors in the current issue of Germany’s Rock Hard magazine with a fantastic 9,5 out of 10 points review. The album also came in on soundcheck position # 2 in The Netherlands’ Aardschok magazine with a 80 out of 100 points review, position # 4 in Germany’s Legacy magazine with a 14 out of 15 points review and position # 8 in Germany’s Metal Hammer magazine with a 5 out of 7 points review.

In the light of the release, WITHERSCAPE’s Dan Swanö has checked in with a comment as follows:

Granted, “The Inheritance” is not purely a Death Metal release, but it smoothly showcases both the heavier and the mellow sides of Swanö’s creativity and should consequently not only please fans of his earlier efforts like “Moontower” or the Edge Of Sanity catalogue, but also attract friends of progressively atmospheric contemporary Metal in the vein of Opeth, Katatonia or Amorphis.

Swedish singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Dan Swanö is the mastermind of the new dark metal outfit, WITHERSCAPE, which he formed with his good friend, Swedish multi-instrumentalist Ragnar Widerberg.
WITHERSCAPE will release their debut album, “The Inheritance”, on July 29 in Europe and August 6 in North America via Century Media Records.

Recently Metal Shock Finland‘s Tarja Virmakari had a chance to interview Dan for Louder Than Hell. He spoke about his personal music tastes and how WITHERSCAPE was born. The most part of the chat he spent to speak about the debut album The Inheritance, giving a short track-by-track. He revealed also a bit about the album concept and the misterious keys that were posted on those days on Witherscape’s facebook page… and then of course, one of the topics was the famous crickets… but what will happen next year in Witherscape-camp?

According to Century Media Records, WITHERSCAPE, the stunning new dark metal outfit formed by Swedish singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer extraordinaire Dan Swanö together with fellow Swedish multi-instrumentalist Ragnar Widerberg, will soon be releasing their debut album “The Inheritance” on July 29th, 2013 in Europe and August 6th, 2013 in North America via Century Media Records.

In order to further introduce the qualities of “The Inheritance”, WITHERSCAPE are now launching a lyric-video for the album song “Dead For A Day”, presented to you courtesy of Germany’s Rock Hard magazine here: www.rockhard.de

Dan Swanö checked in to comment on “Dead For A Day” as follows: “Dead For A Day” is one of those songs that just wrote itself. I was strumming on the acoustic guitar one morning and it just poured out of my fingers. At first I had no idea what to do with the song since I felt it was perhaps a bit too commercial for WITHERSCAPE, but after I played the demo to Ragnar he insisted that it must be on the album! I love how the song moves between the mellow verses à la “Crimson I & II” to the more brutal, yet melodic chorus, in the tradition of “Uncreation” and “Twilight” through the groovy but “undanceable” 9/8 section that leads to one of Ragnar’s best guitar leads of the album.”

Century Media Records have announced that WITHERSCAPE, the stunning new atmospheric and progressive dark metal outfit formed by Swedish singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer extraordinaire Dan Swanö together with fellow Swedish multi-instrumentalist Ragnar Widerberg, have confirmed to be releasing their debut album “The Inheritance” on July 29^th, 2013 in Europe and August 6^th, 2013 in North America.

Dan Swanö checked in to comment about the song as follows: “Astrid falls” is one of my many favourite songs on the album. It represents the WITHERSCAPE sound in a good way. It’s showcasing the clean and growling vocal interplay and the overall “vibe” of my and Ragnar’s playing as well as the dynamics of our songwriting.”

Granted, “The Inheritance” is not purely a Death Metal release, but it smoothly showcases both the heavier and the mellow sides of Swanö’s creativity and should consequently not only please fans of his earlier efforts like “Moontower” or the Edge Of Sanity catalogue, but also attract friends of progressively atmospheric contemporary Metal in the vein of OPETH, KATATONIA or AMORPHIS.

According to Swanö, WITHERSCAPE has been in planning for a long time, spawned as a result of his working relationship with Widerberg, which began at a Swedish music store. The two multi-instrumentalists discovered that they had so much in common musically that brainstorming for a full-on metal project of their own was the next logical step. Widerberg quotes acts like earlyJUDAS PRIEST, RUSH, KING CRIMSON or MERCYFUL FATE as far as his inspirations in regards to WITHERSCAPE and Swanö elaborates his list to also include JUDAS PRIEST (1975-1989), VOIVOD, QUEENSRYCHE, RUSH, MARILLION and MERCYFUL FATE.

WITHERSCAPE’s “The Inheritance” is the first release under a long term worldwide recording deal signed between Dan Swanö and Century Media Records earlier this year.
