WHITESNAKE/ex-DEEP PURPLE singer David Coverdale recently answered a number of questions for listeners of the U.K. digital radio station Planet Rock. Check out the footage below.
Regarding WHITESNAKE‘s upcoming touring plans, Coverdale recently told the Coventry Telegraph, “I absolutely love being at home with my family, so it has to be something exciting to get me out of my house. I enjoy performing, but the travelling sucks on ice. I am treated very nicely when I’m on the road these days, but if you could beam me to Birmingham or wherever, I would love it.”
On the topic of WHITESNAKE‘s upcoming co-headlining tour with JOURNEY, whose hits include “Don’t Stop Believin'”, “Any Way You Want It” and “Faithfully”, with the added attraction of English hard rockers THUNDER, Coverdale said: “JOURNEY I have known for decades. The difficulty of having a co-headliner is to find someone with an equal number of familiar songs, so that you give audiences more bang for their buck. In these difficult times, the more you can offer for the price of a ticket the better, I feel. And JOURNEY have a lot of great songs. As for my dear friends THUNDER, (guitarist and songwriter) Luke Morley has put the band back together specially for this tour.”
Frontiers Records will release WHITESNAKE‘s “Made In Britain/The World Record” in Europe on July 5 and in North America on July 9. The album will be released in Japan on June 19 via Ward Records.
Former DEEP PURPLE and current WHITESNAKE frontman David Coverdale was interviewed yesterday (Wednesday, May 15) on “BBC Breakfast”, a British morning television news program simulcast on BBC One and the BBC News channel. You can watch video footage of his appearance below.
Frontiers Records will release WHITESNAKE‘s “Made In Britain/The World Record” in Europe on July 5 and in North America on July 9. The album will be released in Japan on June 19 via Ward Records.
During 2011, the mighty WHITESNAKE embarked on one of their most successful world tours in recent times, performing 96 shows in more than 35 countries, starting in North America in May until the second U.K. run in December. The request for another live album came from WHITESNAKE‘s incredibly loyal fans — never ones for being notoriously shy about insisting what they want from their favorite musical reptiles. Before heading out on the “Forevermore World Tour 2011”, the decision was made to record every performance on the tour.
After spending the early part of 2012 editing and mixing the WHITESNAKE “Made In Japan” DVD, the production team consisting of The Brutal Brothers (WHITESNAKE frontman David Coverdale and Doug Aldrich and Mikey Mac), had the task of listening to over 90 shows and 130 hours of WHITESNAKE performances. Inspired by the performances from the nine sold-out U.K. shows and a further 87 performances from around the world, the live albums “Made In Britain” and the accompanying “The World Record” were born. The recent “Forevermore” songs shine as brightly as classic WHITESNAKE songs such as “Is This Love”, “Still Of The Night” and “Here I Go Again”, all performed with feverish energy, encouraged by remarkably enthusiastic audiences from Newcastle to Sao Paulo.
Asked about the decision to release two separate live albums — “Made In Japan” and “Made In Britain” — several months apart, David Coverdale told Sweden’s Metalshrine: “We didn’t plan the Japanese project. You know, the Japanese tour was booked and we were invited to headline at Loud Park and I hadn’t headlined a Japanese music festival since 1984, so that was a very exciting premise for me. They made a very generous offer and then asked if they could film three songs for a TV special. We said OK and my co-producers, Doug Aldrich and Michael McIntyre, and I, mixed the three songs and obviously watching the video and going crazy. It looked fantastic and we had them send over the rest of the footage and thought, ‘This could be a fabulous follow-up to ‘Still Of The Night’.’ And where we are now, featuring new songs for the first time. The record company we work with, Frontiers, they were absolutely positive in their response, so we added that to the mix.
“What we’re doing with the ‘Made In Britain’ CD, is giving it a different sonic identity. The CD from ‘Made In Japan’ is a soundtrack and the bonus stuff features behind-the-scenes, soundcheck stuff we recorded in different Japanese venues. Having fun with some our songs, like trying an unplugged version of ‘Good To Be Bad’ and ‘Tell Me How’ from the ‘Forevermore’ album. Stuff that people normally don’t get to hear. For the second CD, it’s ‘WHITESNAKE the world record.’ We’re taking songs from all over different cities, like Oslo and there might be a Sweden Rock. I’m not sure if we legally can do that. Stuff from Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Rio. It’s two entirely different projects, and for the end of the year, we’re hoping to achieve a limited-edition box set for Christmas, called ‘Forevermore – The Complete Collection’, which will have everything ‘Forevermore’-related plus outtakes, alternate mixes, acoustic versions of songs, behind-the-scenes footage. Really cool stuff.

WHITESNAKE frontman David Coverdale is featured in a new career-spanning interview with Metal Express Radio. An excerpt is available below:
MER: You’re a Northeastern lad being born in Saltburn, UK — not too far in fact from Paul Rodgers. What were you doing just before you joined DEEP PURPLE?
DC: “I was born in Saltburn but living in Redcar at the time I got the job in Deep Purple. I didn`t even have a phone in my flat at the time. As you know the Northern coast can be a cold place during the winter with those Siberian blasts from the sea. I had a smugglers bag full of 10p pieces and I was calling the Purple office while all the glass was broken in the phone box trying to sort stuff out when I`d been asked to join. I worked in Redcar in a shop during the day but I played in local bands around the area at night. To join a world famous band like Purple when I was just a lad from Saltburn was incredible.”
MER: How did you adjust to life in DEEP PURPLE?
DC: “It was amazing. Purple were so, so huge around the world especially up in the North of England. I think my first show with them up there was at the Odeon in Newcastle. Over in The States we were playing to 20,000-30,000 a night and at the baseball stadiums 70,000 to 80,000 people. It was incredible. It was a big culture shock for me but I adapted to it and it became part of my life. I learned so much from Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore and that`s meant with no disrespect to the other amazing players I worked with, but it was Ritchie and Jon that prepared me for that transition into Deep Purple. I was in the very capable hands of Ritchie Blackmore and the very caring hands of Jon Lord and they were such amazing mentors for me entering into the world of Rock `n` Roll. They both helped me so much. I got so many musical ideas from Ritchie and how to be with people, from Jon.”

Sweden’s Metal Shrine recently caught up with WHITESNAKE frontman David Coverdale. An excerpt from the interview is available below:
Q: When are we getting the David Coverdale autobiography?
David Coverdale: “How white was my snake? (laughs) You know, I don´t have time man and I´m still living it. Honestly, there´s a huge obstacle for me because I´ve read some of my contemporaries work and I remember certain circumstances very differently. If I ever do this and right now I don´t have that enthusiasm, but if I do, I´m gonna be completely honest. Names will be named because to me, that´s the only way to do it but I´m not sure I´m comfortable with being as revealing. I´m very revealing in my work, but I don´t name names, so you don´t know who this woman was who was behaving like a bitch or who broke my heart (laughs).”
Q: Another Whitesnake (studio) album then? Are we talking 2014 or 2015?
David Coverdale: “Well, Frontiers have discussed that with me and I do have a full agenda as you´ve heard and there´s more that that too. I wanna do an unplugged record and we´re still talking about it, my co-producers Doug Aldrich and Michael McIntyre and I. For me to commit for a new studio record will take a year out of my life whereas these other projects just take a couple of months. I might even be able to get back on the road next year. My last long tour was in 2011 and you´re gonna see shorter ones now and I wanna make sure I have the physical energy and power to be able to present shows as people wanna see me. If I commit to a nine month tour, I don´t think I´m gonna be able to deliver. I´m 61 years old and I´m in great shape, but I´m still 61 years old. It´s gonna be shorter tours and stuff. That´s the dilemma for me, to commit to a new studio record. Believe me, I would love the challenge to go further than Forever More because Doug and I and the band are so up for that. It´s just taking a whole fucking year to write new songs and quality songs, because we´re very critical. Anything that doesn´t resonate, we just let go. Regardless if I brought it to the table or Doug. But we have a fantastic writing situation. We sit down for a cup of coffee and he´ll pick a guitar up and I´ll sing some Christmas song and then we´ve got a fucking Christmas song! It´s a fabulous, natural, organic thing. The muse sits over us with joy and sprinkles ideas on us.”
Frontiers Records has announced that Whitesnake’s highly anticipated live concert Made In Japan, will be released on Deluxe 2CD/DVD Edition, Blu-ray and DVD in the UK on Monday April 22nd (North American release is Tuesday April 23rd). Whitesnake co-headlined the Loud Park festival on October 15th, 2011 at Saitama Super Arena in Japan during their Forevermore World Tour.
Check out the official EPK (electronic press kit) below:
The performance was initially recorded for Japanese TV and future Loud Park promotions, but after three songs were broadcast on a Loud Park highlights program in Japan, Whitensake received unprecedented requests for this performance to be made available for general release.
Having spent most of 2012 editing and mixing the Japanese concert in stunning HD as a multi format DVD-CD in 5.1 and stereo, just prior to commencing the Year Of The Snake 2013 World Tour, this exceptional performance is a welcome addition to the history of Whitesnake live releases. Now fans can relive the irresistible magic of Whitesnake in concert any time their heart and loins may desire!
The Forevermore songs alone are worth the price of admission, not forgetting the classic Whitesnake songs, ‘Is This Love’, ‘Still Of The Night’ and ‘Here I Go Again’, all performed at the height of their musical powers. It’s all here. This is what Whitesnake fans, new and old, have been clamouring for. Highlights include blistering guitar work from the band’s six string guitar slingers, Doug Aldrich and Reb Beach, who both celebrate their 10th anniversary with the band this year.
Whitesnake also features the earth-shaking rhythm section, The Wrecking Crew featuring Michael Devin (bass) and Briian Tichy (drums), who anchor the deep and dirty foundation of Whitesnake. The band is accompanied by the swirling sonic tapestries of special guest keyboardist Brian Ruedy, and of course, the chest beating, seductive vocals of front man and founder, David Coverdale.
After hearing the sound check recordings from the different Japanese venues, the band decided to include them in the package as special bonus content. They agreed that everything would be related to their 2011 Japanese tour. So, when you think about it, it is appropriate they’ve called the project Made In Japan.
Another amazing night to remember and to share with all the fans!
