Jimmy Kay from Canada’s The Metal Voice recently spoke to former Accept singer David Reece. Reece spoke about his new album Cacophony of Souls which will be released on March 13th via El Puerto Records with the new video lyric single Metal Voice to be released on Feb 14 2020.
A snippet of this new song appears at the start and end of this interview on The Metal Voice.
Watch the interview below.
Reece spoke to The Metal Voice about the recording and musical direction of the new album as well as floated the idea of supporting an Accept Fest that would include all former members similar to Michael Schenker Fest. David Reece also weighed in on his opinion of Peter Baltes joining U.D.O. for Wacken 2020 and or another project.
When asked about the making of this album
“This time around I had an Ex-U.D.O. guitarist Andy Susemihl helping me write and arrange the album. Andy and I met in 1988 at Dieter Dierks Studios when he was working on U.D.O. Mean Machine Album. We got along, hung out and bonded. Fast forward to 2019 when I was a special guest on the U.D.O. tour for Steelfactory we met again and decided to work together on this new album.”
When Asked about the musical direction off his new album Cacophony of Souls
“I did a lot of studying on that U.D.O. tour, when you see UDO live there are song structures. tempos, certain choruses, things that they say that click with the audience. So I would make an effort to watch the U.D.O. band every night, just to absorb what was happening. My last album Resilient Heart did not have that punch, the album had more of a blues feel to it. And watching U.D.O. every night I wanted to get that vibe on my new album. The new album is a colourful album and it has a metal punch that was missing last time around. ”
“To talk about a few tracks on the album, The song Metal Voice the first single is more of an anthem song a sort of crowd cheering song, again inspired by watching U.D.O. every night. The idea of the song Collective Anesthesia originated from my bassist Malte Frederik Burker who is Iron Maiden and Megadeth fanatic, so if you listen to that track all the elements of those two bands are there. The title track to the album Cacophony or Souls I wrote that song with Martin Frank who wrote with me on the Resilient Heart album, I basically wrote that song sitting on the toilet and it has a more metal melodic feel. The song Another Life, Another Time, which is ballad, the title was inspired by my wife on a plane ride and some beautiful guitar strumming and writing by Andy. ”
When asked about Peter Baltas rumours on joining Udo Dirkschneider on stage at Wacken 2020
“I know Udo is going to do perform the whole Metal Heart anniversary at Wacken 2020 and I just saw on the Internet that former Accept bassist Peter Baltes is in on that. It looks like Udo is doing Wacken with Peter Baltes and with former drummer/ guitarist Stephan Kaufmann as well. I saw these posts today on Facebook with Udo, Peter and Stephan along with a military guy because they have a military orchestra involved in that performance. I’m not really sure of all the details. Udo told me not to long ago that there will be special surprises and at this point I think it is pretty obvious it’s Peter Baltes is that surprise and that’s great. I also asked Udo are you going back to Accept for a reunion and of course I cant say what he said but he just told me he is really happy the way things are right now with U.D.O. and he is really successful.”
When asked if he would be open to doing an Accept Fest similar to the Michael Schenker Fest with past singer and bandmates
“Absolutely, even if I had to do like Schenker Fest 4-5 songs each singer, why not? You have this weird dynamic with my tenure with the band Accept. Fans either hate my guts or they love me. There are even some fans today that talk to me every day telling me Eat the Heat is their favorite Accept album. So if the power that be can set aside any animosity and all those silly things that are involved we can do this Accept Fest for the fans. And maybe at the end of the night, maybe we can all join together and do Balls to the Wall or something like that. It would be killer, it would be great for us and the fans.”

When asked about the fan reaction to his new album Resilient heart
“The reception of the new album is unbelievable. The feedback that I am getting from my fans who have been buying my albums over the years are saying this is probably the best album I have done. I mean these are fans who have followed me for 35 years and they are saying they love it. People are buying it all over the world. I’m even getting glam metal websites sites saying it’s in their top five album of 2018. It’s been unbelievable I’m so grateful. “
When asked about the new video that will be coming out on December 5 2018
“The new video will be for the song ‘Two coins and a dead man’ on the new album which is basically about when you die they would place a coin on each eye and if you’re allowed into heaven or hell or not (old tradition) that’s the quick lyric summary. But I kind of wrote it about the devil and a woman meeting and the woman falling for him, And basically she realizes he’s the devil and then she murders him. So I’m the devil in the video with this crazy kind of Ozzy like makeup, you know with slicked back hair. The model that we had hired as the woman flaked out on me at the last moment, so I hired my wife to play that part. Yeah Nadia Reece it’s her first debut on film and she pulled it off beautifully. I’m so excited about it because it just it came together perfectly I mean the stars aligned on it. I’m planning to release it noon December 5 2018, Central European Time. “
When asked about his thoughts on the sudden departure of Peter Baltes from Accept
“I have said many times that I would not be sitting in this chair talking to Jimmy Kay at The Metal Voice or doing another interview somewhere else had it not been for the opportunity of being in Accept. Some people hated me and some people loved me in my time with the band. Some people, still hate me for that record ‘Eat the Heat’ but people in the last five years or so fans are bringing that album to me saying wow I never realize how really great the album is. I mean, if it wasn’t for the song ‘Fast as a shark’ there wouldn’t be Metallica, there wouldn’t be many of these speed metal bands that are out today. Accept opened that door and knocked it down and created metal. I have nothing but respect for Wolf Hoffman I have nothing but respect for Mark Tornillo. I saw them live in Milan Italy recently and they were fantastic and their new album is fantastic too.”I had a falling with Peter Baltes back in the day but I had never ever had nothing but the utmost respect for him, his input and his legacy in rock and roll. Peter is probably one of the greatest bass players . I wish him and Accept continued success . ”
When asked about his upcoming tour opening for U.D.O on Swiss and German Dates
“On February David Reese band will be opening as a special guest in Germany and Switzerland for U.D.O. I cannot tell you how amazing and blessed I am. I’ve known Udo Dirkschneider for a long time, I met him when he was no longer the singer of Accept. Over the years we’ve maintained a high level of respect for one another, his sons Sven had a group called Damage who opened for me in Germany back in the mid-2000s. And Udo occasionally would pop in the shows and it was kind of a big deal for the audience to see Reece standing there with Udo Dirkschneider. So I’m really excited to see how the public reacts to this upcoming tour. Right now officially there are 10 dates that we will be touring together. I cannot tell you how great I feel for this opportunity, I’m thankful from the bottom of my heart to U.D.O. and his organization.”
Just one year after their highly praised, self-titled debut album, SAINTED SINNERS return with their second effort “Back With A Vengeance”.
SAINTED SINNERS present their first album trailer, in which vocalist David Reece is talking about the cover artwork and the album title. Watch it here:
Just recently SAINTED SINNERS released their first single out of the new record, called “Burnin The Candle”. Watch the video clip, which was shot in Hamburg a month ago, here:
“For the video we went for a very spontaneous approach”, explains Frank Pané. “Having a day off in Hamburg between two shows, we were happy to have our friend Volker Thiele (who did our previous clips as well) with us. There was no bigger plan what to do, we basically walked through the city searching for cool locations.”
David Reece adds: “The shooting was a challenge, because firstly the weather was cold and we shot some on the pier in Hamburg, but it was freezing balls and tough to do. We looked behind us and there was Hard Rock Cafe Hamburg, so we asked the manager out of need to warm up if we could shoot some footage and he luckily agreed, before we froze to death, haha!”
»Back With A Vengeance« is now available for pre-order:
01. Rise Like A Phoenix
02. Burnin The Candle
03. Back With A Vengeance
04. Tell Me I Was Wrong
05. Nothin Left To Lose
06. Waitin ’till The Countdown Begins
07. Let It Go
08. When The Hammer Falls
09. Pretty Little Lies
10. Gone But Not Forgotten
»Back With A Vengeance« is another step forward, of a band that is going to establish their very own sound. Fronted by the unique, soul-driven voice of American born vocalist David Reece (ex-ACCEPT) and highly gifted guitar player Frank Pané (BONFIRE), SAINTED SINNERS got completed by the dynamic rhythm section of the two former PURPENDICULAR members Malte Frederik Burkert (bass) and the Hungarian drum maestro Berci Hirleman.
“We were aiming for a more guitar heavy approach this time and also a warmer, more ballsy sound”, explains Frank Pané and continues: “This time we already knew where to go. You definitely can hear my huge VAN HALEN & Randy Rhoads influences more than on the previous one. But it also has that DEEP PURPLE touch, even with less keyboards this time. In other songs you definitely hear a RAINBOW & DIO influence….and it goes on and on. These influences are totally natural and are not planned. So we just go with the flow and that’s “the essence of Rock ‘n Roll” for us.”
The keyboards on »Back With A Vengeance« were handled by the two guest members Angel Vafeiadis and Los Angeles based Eric Ragno, who known for his contribution for Alice Cooper, Paul Stanley (KISS) and Billy Gibbons (ZZ TOP).
„I’m really happy and satisfied with the end result“, summarizes Frank Pané. „Being a new band, it’s hard to be recognized nowadays with all the hundreds of releases every month, so we wanted to make a statement that Sainted Sinners is a band you should look out for.“
»Back With A Vengeance« should definetly be on your shopping list for 2018. It‘s Hard Rock with balls, but also with heart and soul, a lot of energy, emotions… and simply – and this is what counts – brilliant songs!
