A couple months back we released the latest album, ‘Dreadful Company,’ from VERNI, better known as the solo project of infamous OVERKILL bass player DD Verni. VERNI allows DD the chance to step out and express himself without limitations revealing the depth of talent and influences that make up the legendary musician. On ‘Dreadful Company’ DD wrote all the material, produced, and played all the bass, guitars and sang while enlisting the drumwork of former OVERKILL drummer Jason Bittner (Shadows Fall, Category 7) and guest contributions on specific songs from members of Anthrax, Dope, Symphony X and Angel. We feel it goes without saying this is a fun record, and DD focused on his punk rock roots drawing comparisons from everyone from Ramones, Misfits, Social Distortion to newer acts like Green Day. The songs are immediate, infectious and appealing to both fans of punk and metal.
To further evidence, check out the insanely catchy new video released today for “All You Need To Know” for more proof.
‘Dreadful Company’ is now in stores and online, or order direct https://lnk.to/verni Vinyl variants include the black/white marble or get the limited traditional black vinyl direct, which includes an autographed DD Verni photo.
The album was produced by DD Verni, mixed and mastered by Zeuss (Queensryche, Municipal Waste, Soulfly) with cover artwork designed by Travis Smith (Opeth, Devin Townsend, King Diamond). ‘Dreadful Company’ was preceded by videos for the singles “Lunkhead” https://youtu.be/QrjofHNdtH8 and “Cemetery Safari” https://youtu.be/boQ4ZLUTk70
DD Verni will be back on tour with OVERKILL for a couple months starting Oct. 15th supporting King Diamond. Make sure to get out to one of these great shows, with Night Demon opening, for a killer night of metal.
DD VERNI is a multi-genre songwriter and international performing musician. He is the founding member of Overkill, The Cadillac Band (big band/swing), The Bronx Casket Co. Collection and Musical, and solo Verni Projects (Barricade and Dreadful Company).
Lisa Verni is a psychotherapist, Deeptime consultant, and creator of dancingwithepain.org. She serves on the faculty of The Deeptime Network’s Leadership Program which educates people to the wisdom, wonder, and creative energy of Earth and Cosmos.
Lisa states, “The Sayin’ I Love You Movement” is an example of Deeptime Emergence. The song speaks to what so many people feel and reminds us that we all belong. Because we all come from the 14-billion-year flow of the Universe, we possess immense generative power. We are active creators in our evolutionary story. Through simple expressions of love, we unleash the infinite potential available to chart a brighter way forward.”
DD continues, “For me, making music is the simplest and purest way to connect with others.”
In creating the video for “Sayin’ I Love You”, DD and Lisa invited their communities to share images of how they express love. Together, they offer a Love Song for our times.
Please join the Verni’s in this evolutionary movement by sharing your expressions of love with the world, and by contributing to The Sayin’ I Love You Deeptime Leadership Scholarship Fund.
As a follow-up to the insanely infectious “Lunkhead,” DD Verni is back with another track to share from his forthcoming solo album. Check out “Cemetery Safari” now on all digital platforms or watch the lyric video now below.
“So ‘Cemetery Safari’ is another fun one!” declares DD Verni. “Tongue-in-cheek lyrics with a Ramones groove, written about running around the world playing music for all these years and even now, how fun it still is to do! Feels like a summertime song to me, and driving down the Jersey shore with the windows open and cranking the tunes! Hopefully it brings some of that energy to the listener.”
M-Theory Audio is proud to present the forthcoming album, ‘Dreadful Company,’ from VERNI, in stores and online July 26th. The solo project of legendary bassist, founding member and songwriter for over 40 years of the wrecking crew known as OVERKILL. VERNI gives him the chance to step out and express himself without limitations. Much like his first solo album, 2018’s ‘Barricade,’ DD wrote all the songs, produced, sang and played guitar and bass. While this album bears some resemblance to ‘Barricade’, DD lets his punk roots shine throughout this album, which leads to 11 blistering tracks chockful of electrified songs and infectious sing-alongs.
Contributing drums to all 11 songs is fellow OVERKILL member Jason Bittner (also of SHADOWS FALL, CATEGORY 7), alongside some friendly guests throughout the album including Charlie Benante (ANTHRAX), Virus (DOPE), Michael Romeo (SYMPHONY X) and Charlie Calv (ANGEL, THE BRONX CASKET CO). The whole affair was then mixed and mastered by Zeuss (Queensryche, Municipal Waste, Soulfly) with cover artwork designed by Travis Smith (Opeth, Devin Townsend, King Diamond).
“Dreadful Company’ is available for pre-order now on CD and limited-edition vinyl including black/white marble or traditional black. All pre-orders via the M-Theory webstore or from Bandcamp include a signed photo.
“This one has been a long time comin’, so psyched to finally do a punk-ish record. The best thing about these solo ventures is to be able to try out different stuff. When Covid came I found I had a lot of time in the studio, which is not normally the case, so I used it to really ramp up on writing stuff and getting to some things on my bucket list done…this was one of ‘em,” explains DD. “The mantra for the record was write it like a punk band and play it like a metal band. So, when I was writing there was no palm mutes or metal twinged anything, all wide-open Ramones chords and then big melodies, then I came back later and started to add in the metal flavor.”
The first single, “Lunkhead,” has been turning heads and getting a bit of radio play, check the video HERE https://youtu.be/QrjofHNdtH8
More information on VERNI and the upcoming album release will be revealed in the weeks to come at www.facebook.com/ddverni and by M-Theory Audio.
M-Theory Audio is proud to present the second album, and first for M-Theory Audio, from VERNI. If that name sounds familiar it is the solo project of legendary bassist DD Verni, better known as the bassist and a founding member of thrash metal legends OVERKILL. DD has held the bottom-end of OVERKILL for four decades and been key in writing the band’s material and overseeing much of their business over the years. VERNI gives DD the chance to step more into the spotlight and express himself without limitations. Much like his first solo album, 2018’s ‘Barricade,’ DD wrote all the songs while singing, and playing guitar and bass. While this album bears some resemblance to ‘Barricade’, DD lets his punk roots shine through on this album, which leads to 11 blistering tracks chock full of electrified songs and infectious sing-alongs.
So, when I was writing there was no palm mutes or metal twinged anything, all wide-open Ramones chords and then big melodies, then I came back later and started to add in the metal flavor, and more how I typically play guitar. I asked Jason Bittner (OVERKILL, SHADOWS FALLL) to do the drums ‘cause I knew he would kill it, and told him the same thing — play it like you would do it… only parameter I had was no double-kick, which I think kind of made it interesting for him too, because that’s out of his norm too.”
The first single, “Lunkhead,” premieres today on all streaming/download platforms or watch the lyric video below. “Lunkhead” gives you a good idea of the direction of the album, plus it includes a special musical guest.
“I did most of the solos, but I knew I didn’t want to do ‘em all. I thought about the last solo record I did where I had kinda a lot of shredders, and that didn’t make sense on a lot of these songs. So, I started to think outside the box, who do I know who can slip from punk to metal easily? I’m driving scanning thru stuff that is kinda punk/metal mix, like Volbeat, Motorhead, some of those Metallica Misfits cover tunes etc and SOD comes on… and I’m like, oh yeah forgot about them and I love that SOD record! Who doesn’t? I remember the credits saying Charlie Benante – drums and one solo and so I thought… I wonder if Charlie would do it? I reached out and he was into it, so I send him a few tunes. He gravitated to ‘Lunkhead’ and just went for it. It’s great, I think! I wish he had the time to do more of ‘em. So, for the lead song of the album, it’s a bass player and 2 drummers doing all the tracks hahaha! Awesome!”
In addition to Benante, Verni have enlisted a few more famous friends throughout the forthcoming record, including the diverse bunch of Virus (DOPE), Michael Romeo (SYMPHONY X) and Charlie Calv (ANGEL, THE BRONX CASKET CO.) on a few more select tracks. The album, entitled ‘Dreadful Company,’ is truly a glimpse into another side of DD who even produced and engineered, with mixing and mastering by Zeuss (Hatebreed, Municipal Waste, Soulfly) and cover artwork/design by Travis Smith (Opeth, Devin Townsend, Nevermore). ‘Dreadful Company’ will be released July 26th on Digital, CD and limited-edition vinyl (either black/white marble or traditional black) with insert and digital download card. As a bonus, if you preorder via our webstore or through Bandcamp you’ll get an individually signed DD Verni photo, while supplies last.
“It was great doing a deal with M-Theory Audio, too. They are just good people and have a good (and believe it or not) a fair system for artists to be able to release product. It’s nice to work with people that actually get it! Back in the day a label supported their artists with whatever venture they were pursuing. It’s just not that way anymore, labels approach everything as a math problem instead of an art project, which is a shame because so many of the so-called “side-projects” like SOD for instance, were just amazing stuff. Megaforce got behind it because Anthrax was their artist, as they should, and the result is we all got these great records.”

OVERKILL bassist DD VERNI’s THE BRONX CASKET CO. return on Friday, November 13th! Deko Entertainment will release “The Complete Collection”, a 5 Disc Box Set including all 4 of the band’s studio releases plus unreleased bonus material.
DD states, “It’s Halloween and Friday the 13th all within a 2 week period…so must be time for a new Bronx Casket Co. release! “
The Bronx Casket Co. was founded by Overkill bassist and main songwriter DD Verni and released the self-titled “Bronx Caset Co.” on Massacre Records in 1999. It was followed up by “Sweet Home Transylvania” in 2001, “Hellectric” in 2005 and “Antihero” in 2011. The band is rounded out by guitarist Jack Frost (Savatage, Seven Witches, Lizzy Borden), keyboardist Charlie Calv (Angel, Shotgun Symphony), drummer Tim Mallare (Overkill, M.O.D.) on the first 3 releases and Rob Pallota (25 ta Life) on the later, and originally fronted by Myke Hideous (The Misfits, Empire Hideous) on the first 3 albums with DD taking over vocals full time on Antihero.
This release is completely re-mastered by Alan Douches (The Misfits, Mastodon, etc…) and includes a bonus disc of early demos, unreleased remixes, a cover of The Misfits classic “Ghouls Night Out”, and a brand newly recorded mash up of the classic Black Sabbath tracks “The Writ/Megalomania” entitled “Sabatage-d”.
DD continues, “I’m so psyched to have the whole catalog in one spot. The four records were all so completely different yet part of the same idea, so seeing it all together is very cool. A bonus disc with demos and extra tracks, as well as all kinds of collectibles makes it something really unique. It was fun to get back with the guys to bang out the Black Sabbath Sabatage-d song too, felt almost like we never took a break. I get asked all the time if there will ever be another full length album….hey ya never know. “
This is limited to 500 copies with 100 being set aside for a special Friday the 13th bundle with some ghoulish merch, and your own personalized death certificate signed by Bronx Casket Co. founder DD Verni.
