After various songwriting sessions in Europe, the band recorded and mixed the album in Nashville, Tennessee with producer Bob Ezrin (KISS, PINK FLOYD, PETER GABRIEL, ALICE COOPER, KANSAS). The CD contain 11 tracks, including “Out Of Hand”, “Weirdistan”, “Uncommon Man” and “Above And Beyond”. The latter song references the band’s late keyboard player, Jon Lord, in the lyric “Souls having touched are forever entwined.”
According to a press release, “Now What?!” was recorded with no musical rules… and it shows a modern and fresh production… to the point that DEEP PURPLE have never sounded so close to the spirit of the ’70s in the last 20 years as they do now. The CD has the excellence and elegance of “Perfect Strangers” and the wild freedom of “Made In Japan”.
“Now What?!” will also be released as a limited edition with a bonus DVD featuring DEEP PURPLE discussing the new album and one bonus studio cover version. It will also be made available as a double vinyl LP.
The first taste of “Now What?!” will be the release of a double A-side single on March 29 (as a limited and numbered vinyl seven-inch, CD single and digital download).

DEEP PURPLE‘s 18th studio album, “Rapture of the Deep”, was released in November 2005. It was the fourth studio CD from DEEP PURPLE since guitarist Steve Morse joined the band in 1994. It was also the second album to feature veteran keyboardist Don Airey.
“Rapture of the Deep” was produced by Mike Bradford, who also worked on the band’s previous release, 2003’s “Bananas”.
DEEP PURPLE‘s Official YouTube Channel has uploaded some classic videos from yesteryear showcasing their varied and treasured history. Details below:
Rare Archival vision of Deep Purple Mk I Live – Berne, Switzerland 1968 performing ‘Hush’, and featuring Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord, Ian Paice, Rod Evans and Nick Simper.
Although of poor VHS quality, this interview is well worth seeing as Ian Gillan and Jon Lord discuss the recent release of Perfect Strangers in November 1984 on the UK BBC2 Show The Old Grey Whistle Test. The infuriating and mindless questions led to Ian and Jon walking offset during the video playback!
The Return Of The Knebworth Fayre on June 22nd, 1985 – Purple’s first UK show since 1976, and a major gig for the band featuring Ian Gillan, Jon Lord, Ian Paice, Roger Glover and Ritchie Blackmore. This interview piece was taken from local TV at the time. Check out David Coverdale at the start of the interview who was about to launch one of the great rock albums not long after with Whitesnake 1987.
Check out this crazy German TV children’s program where they feature DEEP PURPLE‘s latest release at the time Stormbringer from early 1975, which featured the following lineup: Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), David Coverdale (vocals), Glenn Hughes (bass, vocals), Jon Lord (organ, keyboards) and Ian Paice (drums).
Late DEEP PURPLE keyboard legend JON LORD’s Rock Meets Classic was recorded in June 1974 in Munich. Windows, which was recorded in Munich June 1974, is a live album by Jon Lord and the German conductor and composer Eberhard Schoener.
Ray Fenwick, Tony Ashton, David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes and Lord himself perform as soloists along with the Munich Chamber Opera Orchestra conducted by Schoener. The album was originally released on LP by Purple Records (distributed by EMI) in late 1974.
The master tapes of the film recording have recently been discovered and plans are being made to release the show some time later in 2013. This is terrific news for all Jon Lord fans.
This piece is a small snippet from the rehearsals late May 1974.
WHITESNAKE mainman David Coverdale remembers first meeting the late DEEP PURPLE keyboard legend JON LORD who he describes as “a sweet, sweet man. He knew how to elevate your spirit.”
Coverdale talks about how Lord comforted him before his audition for Deep Purple in 1973, and of the rehearsals at Clearwell Castle before they recorded the Burn album.
