Due on November 13, “Koi No Yokan” will feature the following track listing:
01. Poltergeist
02. Romantic Dreams

04. Swerve City
05. Entombed
06. Graphic Nature
07. Tempest
08. Gauze
09. Rosemary

11. What Happened To You?
Speaking to AOL‘s Noisecreep, DEFTONES frontman Chino Moreno stated about the songwriting process for “Koi No Yokan”, “We were coming out of a tough time, obviously, and our goal was to kind of rebuild what we created over all the years. I felt like we had to prove ourselves. We’d taken so much time between records, had some inner turmoil, and our records were starting to get pieced together versus really being created together, so for us it was a chance to get back to basics. We didn’t have an idea of what sort of style we wanted. We just came in fired up and motivated to do something great. It was all very positive. We had more songs than ever, tons of ideas.”
“Leathers”, a brand new song from DEFTONES, can be streamed using the SoundCloud player below. The track is also available for free download at Deftones.com.

DEFTONES played two brand new songs — “Roller Derby” and “Rosemary” — during last night’s (Saturday, July 28) concert at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, California. Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be seen below.
“Roller Derby” and “Rosemary” are slated to appear on DEFTONES‘s seventh album, which is tentatively scheduled for release on October 9. The CD will follow up 2010’s “Diamond Eyes”, which was the group’s most successful and acclaimed outing in years. Lead singer Chino Moreno told Billboard.com why the band got back to work faster than usual. “It was important that we wanted to not drag it out,” he said. “We have a well-documented history of taking forever to make records. But with our last record, we did it in a really short, good amount of time, probably four or five months from the time we started writing until we finished it. For us, that was record time, so this time the idea was, ‘Let’s go in and start a record on this date and let’s try to be finished by summertime and keep this work ethic we kind of stumbled upon on the last one,’ and we did.”
DEFTONES worked again with producer Nick Raskulinecz, who produced “Diamond Eyes” and has also worked on albums by RUSH and FOO FIGHTERS.
Asked how the new DEFTONES disc sounds, Moreno told Billboard.com, “It’s not a super fast or slow record. It’s very dynamic. Some of my favorite things about DEFTONES are the dynamics. Yes, we’re a heavy band, but we’re not just in-your-face aggro the whole time, punching you in the face. There’s a lot of aggression in some of the music, but there’s also this very soothing element where there’s a lot of soundscapes rather than attack, attack, attack the whole time. I understand that’s a big part of our sound, but I really feel like we reached a peak on our dynamics on this record with those two qualities — the beauty of something and just straight, ruthless aggression.”
The group also intends to continue their tradition of recording several cover tunes that could end up as B-sides, with Moreno revealing that they’ve been toying with songs from ELVIS PRESLEY and EARTH, WIND & FIRE, among others.
DEFTONES will promote the new CD’s upcoming release with a string of tour dates with SYSTEM OF A DOWN, beginning on August 2 in Camden, New Jersey.
“Diamond Eyes” debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard album chart when it came out, making it the band’s highest charting effort since 2003’s “Deftones”.
“Diamond Eyes” featured two Top 20 rock hits in the title track and “You’ve Seen The Butcher”.
The album was written and recorded after the late 2008 auto accident that left bassist Chi Cheng in a semi-comatose state. An album completed before Cheng‘s accident, titled “Eros”, remains unreleased.
Cheng remains in a semi-comatose state although he has been showing gradual signs of consciousness and recovery for the past year. His replacement on “Diamond Eyes”, Sergio Vega, also plays on the new DEFTONES disc.
DEFTONES debuted a brand new song called “Rosemary” during a private show yesterday afternoon (Friday, July 27) at Warner Bros. Records in Burbank, California. An audio recording of the performance can be streamed in the YouTube clip below.

According to EW.com, DEFTONES has set a tentative October 9 release date for its seventh album.
Regarding the musical direction of the follow-up to 2010’s “Diamond Eyes”, DEFTONES vocalist Chino Moreno said, “Obviously we’re an aggressive band — not the heaviest, but there’s a lot of attack. But there’s also this lush beauty that flows within everything that we do, and that’s my favorite part of the band. To me, it’s the epitome of what the DEFTONES do.”
The CD was once again helmed by Nick Raskulinecz, who produced “Diamond Eyes” and has also worked with FOO FIGHTERS, RUSH, EVANESCENCE and ALICE IN CHAINS. “He’s a very hands-on guy,” Moreno told EW.com. “We adopted a work ethic that was really productive on the last record. We said we were going to work eight hours a day, and since we had those hours, everybody in there was super focused. Before that we had been working up in Sacramento, and the vibe was everybody would come in and hang out and we would work when we got around to it. We had to get more efficient.”
As in the past, DEFTONES will record a handful of covers, some of which will undoubtedly make it various special editions of the new album. “We’ve done a lot of ’80s stuff, but we wanted to do something from farther back,” Moreno explained. “We sat down and everybody had their computers on and were playing songs that we like. So we’re going to do an Elvis Presley song — we have five Elvis songs that we’ve been talking about. And we’re going to do EARTH, WIND, AND FIRE. Hopefully we’ll get at least two, maybe three or four.”
He added, “It’s always fun. We’re done with the real creative part of having to come up with music out of thin air, and now we can be experimental with someone else’s song.”
DEFTONES bassist Chi Cheng is showing signs of improvement after being diagnosed with pneumonia, according to a post by his family at the One Love For Chi web site. The bass player, who has been in a semi-comatose state since being injured in a November 2008 car accident, was just brought home after treatment at a recovery center in New Jersey. Cheng has been assisted by mechanical ventilation but the doctors hope to begin weaning him off the breathing machine as soon as today (Monday, June 18).
Cheng had been showing more signs of emerging from his condition over the past few months, although he has still been mostly unable to move or speak.
Much of Cheng‘s treatment at a special facility in New Jersey has been funded by fans and friends, with DEFTONES holding several benefit concerts and donating money from the band’s tours.
DEFTONES are in the studio working on a follow-up to 2010’s “Diamond Eyes”, one of the band’s most successful outings yet. Sergio Vega continues to play bass for the group in Cheng‘s absence.
