Defying Decay

‘Judas Kiss’ is the second single release from the upcoming ‘Metamorphosis’ album by DEFYING DECAY. The video is a visceral abstraction of a Metamorphosis, the transformation of matter to a hybrid consciousness.

Speaking about the single and video, vocalist ‘Jay’ Poom Euarchukiati says: “This song was the first song we finished writing for the album. It was originally on a 8-bit sounding synth and it was the first time that I decided to experiment more with electronic elements. With vibes of urgency, aggression and mystery, I’d say this is definitely something on the more heavy side of this album we’ve worked on.

In regards to the video, I wanted something different – I feel like band performance music videos are getting boring, especially as we have a few of those. The video footage that we used was actually suppose to be for the narrative for our previous single ‘Ghost’ but when it was done, myself and our director Stuart thought it was too good on it’s own so we kept it and used it to make our short film “APEX”. We then later used it to develop a music video for ‘Judas Kiss’.”

The visuals feature excerpts from a critically acclaimed, multiple award-winning short film ‘APEX’. The film, directed by Stuart Birchall, was executive produced by Jay. Stuart and Jay have worked on a number of short conceptual films, including ‘Dominion’ & ‘Holding Company’ – both are to be released later in 2019. The duo share an affinity for the arts, anime and science fiction. Jay was keen to work with filmmaker Stuart after following his ongoing work with Architects, Kerrang! winning-work with Bring Me The Horizon, and a series of films with Bullet For My Valentine.

APEX is a dark experimental sci-fi that has received over 50 awards since its release in 2018 and continues to inspire audiences worldwide. It’ll be featured in Slamdance later this month, and can be see at a variety of online festivals this year.

DEFYING DECAY are led by ‘Jay’ Poom Euarchukiati (vocalist, guitarist and synthesis) Howard Fang (guitarist), Kongpop “Jump” Thongrat (guitarist and pianist). The bands lineup was updated in 2016 with the addition of Theon Adam (bassist and programmer), and Mark Mironov (drums).

DEFYING DECAY are a band of musical misfits, an eclectic mix of cultures and classical training, a hybrid born of many influences crafted by a shared passion for music. The band has persevered to realise their vision born in the East and are now knocking on the doors to the rest of the world, following in the footsteps of bands like Crossfaith and Coldrain. This enigmatic act is emerging onto the international scene with their new album in 2019, and preceded by first single “Ghost”.

The track is taken from the forthcoming album “Metamorphosis”, a melancholy ballad inspired by loss and memory. Visually, “Ghost” is a careful construction of metaphors and motifs, hidden clues that suggest deeper themes from the overall album narrative. The cinematic style is similarly crashed through with vibrant performance and portraits that introduce the band gradually in this first video.

Speaking about the single and video, vocalist ‘Jay’ Poom Euarchukiati says:
“The song was inspired by anime blockbuster “Your Name” and is probably our first attempt at writing a song that’s about a relationship. “Ghost” is really about the idea of loving someone that doesn’t actually exist, isn’t there or the same anymore. The video performance is meant to be a bit more abstract and was inspired by the likes of The Prodigy – you can’t see too much of our faces, and we used 90s dance / rave scene lasers to light up the dark room. The shoot took place in a World War I Bunker and provided the perfect cold, dark vibes we wanted for the video. This upcoming album is our journey. A journey that’s tested us, changed us and changed us, changed us as people, changed us as artist. This has been our metamorphosis. We speak through our music and we want to share it with the world. This is DEFYING DECAY“.
