DEVILSTONE OPEN AIR: Post-Festival Reviews And Feedback

The organisers at Metal Shock Finland’s UTILIFEST project partners Devilstone Open Air, which took place recently in Lithuania, have released their thoughts on this years’ festival, including some quotes which can be read below:

SUCCESFUL DEVILSTONE OPEN AIR 2013

The unique festival of diverse metal music and delirious rock ‘n’ roll spirit, Devilstone Open Air, has ended. The 5th edition brought together worldwide celebrated musicians, prospective local bands, and surprising attractions.

The festival attracted 3700 visitors, which is 25% more compared to last year’s attendance. The total performance running time was 42 hours not to mention Rockthèque where party music was on all night long until 10 am.

Out of 30 international performers, the listeners mostly enjoyed the East Stage line-up: Brits ORANGE GOBLIN and EVILE, the masters of psychedelic vibe KADAVAR and SAMSARA BLUES EXPERIMENT, Ukrainian stoner/psychedelic band STONED JESUS, Romanians TAINE, and Polish post-rockers TIDES FROM NEBULA. The West Stage drew most of the festival people during Swedish extremists SHINING who caused a little stir in the media requesting blood for their performance, Norwegian rock/metal pride ENSLAVED, enchanting black ‘n’ rollers KOLDBRANN, Spanish thrashers ANGELUS APATRIDA, deathers AVULSED and Swedes VOMITORY.

In addition to the best selection of music, Devilstone Open Air 2013 offered complimentary attractions. There was MetalClinic’s Masterclasses – a creative workshop where celebs improvised and produced Q&A and/or jamming sessions. Most intriguing masterclasses were with AVULSED, SHINING and SAMSARA BLUES EXPERIMENT. There were also fervent football and volley ball battles.

WOLF: New Footage From Devilstone Open Air Available Online

DEVILSTONE FEST: Estonian Thrashers CANTILENA And More Added To Bill

171.pngMetal Shock Finland’s UTILIFEST partners at DEVILSTONE OPEN AIR 2013 have added Estonian up and coming thrash metal band CANTILENA to the bill. The festival organisers state:

“This fairly young band with boiling old-school thrash in their hearts is already acknowledged by the classics in the genre: CANTILENA was chosen as a supporting band by such veterans like SEPULTURA and OVERKILL. The music answers why: aggressive but at the same time melodic, CANTILENA’s thrash metal satisfies even the standards of spoilt westerners. The band’s debut “Violent Peace”, released in 2012, displays that three years are enough for maturity and finding a unique path.

DEVILSTONE provides an opportunity to appreciate what this aspiring Estonian ensemble has to offer. CANTILENA’s members state that their gigs are aggressive, but with honesty and respect, and the audience responds in the same way.”

Swedish metallers WOLF are also appearing at the festival, alongside other previously announce bands such as ENSLAVED, KADAVAR, AVULSED, VOMITORY and ORANGE GOBLIN. Also just announced are INDYGO, STIFFER, LOS TURBOS and THE PERFECT PILL.

Metal Shock Finland Utilifest Project: Announces New Media Partnership With DEVILSTONE OPEN AIR FESTIVAL 2013

Metal Shock Finland is proud to announce a new Utilifest media partnership with DEVILSTONE OPEN AIR 2013. The festival will take place in Lithuania from July 11th-14th.

This year marks the fifth year of the festival, which has a selection of bands performing from around the world as well as Lithuania. Here is a little more information from the organisers:

“Devilstone Open Air is a vibrant festival where committed festival fans, performing musicians and casual attendees create the content by sheer presence and participation. In addition to notable performances across two stages, there’s also MetalClinic’s creative workshops, Masterclasses, nocturnal dancing fiestas Rockthèque, absurd cinema screenings, dark arts exhibition, fervent football and even the sabotaging anti-alternative gadfly The 4th Stage. Plenty of attractions and exciting competitions ensure extremely good vibes. Devilstone Open Air promises the utmost experience for the metalheads, rockers, hipsters, and people defying any categories alike! It’s a summer’s must for creative minds and quality time lovers!

Devilstone Open Air is a small, cosy and bursting with energy festival; heavy and professional in music terms, yet incredibly light, liberating and charming in its atmosphere. Needless to say, Devilstone Open Air is a unique rock ‘n’ roll festival!”

WOLF: Confirmed For DEVILSTONE OPEN AIR 2013

WOLF_01-500x332Swedish heavy metallers WOLF have recently confirmed for DEVILSTONE Open Air 2013. The festival will take place in Anykščiai, a small town in the north east of Lithuania on July 11-14, 2013. The town is 114 km away from Vilnius and 297 km away from the seaport Klaipėda.

The band posted: “We are so much looking forward to finally reach Lithuania, this is something we have wanted for a long time and now it finally happens!!
See you all there!!”

The bands have been confirmed for DEVILSTONE 2013 are: ENSLAVED, KADAVAR, TIDES FROM NEBULA, KOLDBRANN, SAMSARA BLUES EXPERIMENT, KONGH, AVULSED and WOLF.

 

As previously reported on Metal Shock Finland, Swedish metallers WOLF will be releasing their own brand of absinthe, simply called Wolf Absinthe on 1st June 2013. The release party for the mind-blowing spirit will take place on founding member Niklas Stålvind’s 40th birthday in Örebro, Sweden, where the band was born 1995.

Vocalist Niklas Stålvind now comments:

”We got the idea two years ago when we wrote the song ”Absinthe” for the ”Legions of Bastards” album. Since then this little embryo of an idea has turned into a green manalishi.  We are very proud to say that this product is the real deal. It’s a top notch Absinthe made by the award winning Santka Annas Distillery who is known for making the best absinthe in the world.”  
”What’s so cool about absinthe is that it’s not like any alcohol beverage. It’s surrounded by myths and rituals and has been banned from most countries until recently. It’s associated with artists like Van Gogh, who supposedly drank it and lost both his mind and his ear. It’s something mysterious, something forbidden. And it happens to be very tasty when you prepare it the right way, and here’s where the rituals of absinthe drinking are still alive.”
”Other bands have their red wine and such and that’s fine… But when it comes to the band with the coolest product – I guess we won,” says Niklas laughing.
The Wolf Absinthe has an alcohol content of 66.6% and is described and featured on absinthes.com as follows:
“Wolf Absinthe is a project by a heavy metal band called WOLF – the idea of having their own absinthe has interested this group for a while, after all artists have always had this special attraction to absinthe.
In this absinthe, you will find floral notes and the taste of wormwood, anise and fennel (of course!), and a hint of coriander.”
WOLF is currently working on their seventh studio album which will be recorded later this year.
