It’s been a month since GUNS N’ ROSES guitarist DJ Ashba got an airborne assist from Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department with his marriage proposal. And Contact 13 Chief Investigator Darcy Spears has learned there’s finally been some action taken in that chopper controversy. We now know the names of three LVMPD employees who were involved in the chopper proposal. One has been transferred out of Search and Rescue. But there are still a lot of unanswered questions.
Ashba and his girlfriend were given rock star treatment by LVMPD — a private helicopter tour that ended in a marriage proposal in early August.
“I’ve had people call me up and say if they’re giving helicopter rides, I want one too. And we don’t give helicopter rides. It’s not a tour service at Metro,” says County Commissioner Steve Sisolak, who sits on LVMPD’s Fiscal Affairs Committee.
The unauthorized civilian fly-along sparked community outrage and an internal affairs investigation after Ashba posted the photo along with thanks to LVMPD Capt. David O’Leary for making it happen.
