Southern Californian melodic death shredders EXMORTUS have revealed the final single, ‘Storm Of Strings,’ ahead of the highly anticipated release of their 6th studio album, Necrophony, that’s out August 25th from Nuclear Blast Records. On their latest song, EXMORTUS puts their signature shred into a cover of legendary new age artist Yanniâs song ‘The Storm,’ which was based off of the great Baroque composer Antonio Vivaldiâs concertos ‘The Four Seasons.’
Commenting on the single, guitarist/vocalist Conan says: “We’ve been meaning to cover this piece for a long time and now it feels right for Necrophony. Honoring two artists at once, we give you a heavy metal shred version of Yanni’s arrangement of Vivaldi’s Summer Concerto. Enjoy the groove, enjoy the passion!”

Southern Californian melodic death shredders EXMORTUS have released the third single, ‘Beyond The Grave,’ from their massively anticipated 6th studio album, Necrophony, that’s due August 25th from Nuclear Blast Records. The face-melting new track is a sonic fist-to-the-face, replete with thrashing guitar riffs, blistering solos and monstrous vocals that attest to why the band remains one of the fiercest bands in underground metal.Â
Watch the lyric video for ‘Beyond The Grave’ created by Wayne Joyner (DREAM THEATER, DEVIN TOWNSEND):
Commenting on the single, guitarist/vocalist Conan says: “We’re excited to show off yet another intense song from the new album with awesome visuals by Wayne Joyner. Heavily inspired by the Evil Dead movies, this piece interprets the madness of possession with fast rhythms and licks on each instrument. We’re sure to have fun performing this one on tours to come.”
EXMORTUS recently headlined the Hyperspace Metal Festival in Vancouver and completed a West Coast tour with Paladin and Graveshadow. Additional live performances to be announced soon.

Following their recent announcement of joining Nuclear Blast Records, Southern Californian melodic death mongers EXMORTUS have revealed plans to release their massively anticipated 6th studio album, Necrophony, on August 25th. Available for pre-order now, the record 4 years in the making finds the shredders at a new creative peak, re-born in the isolation of the pandemic and wielding a master craft of metallic savagery.Â
Commenting on the impending record, guitarist/vocalist Conan says: “‘Necrophony’ was an album title idea for as long as I can remember. This Symphony of the Dead couldn’t be realized for a collection of songs until now. Finally, we have our darkest and most Classically inspired work yet, with artwork by the great Toha Mashudi to match perfectly. We returned to Sharkbite Studios to have the mighty wizard that is Zack Ohren aid us again in forging our metal, and resulted in the finest steel we’re all proud to wield on the battlefield.“
Conan adds says of the song: “‘Mind of Metal’ is a great compliment to our previous single ‘Oathbreaker,’ in that it has contrasting rhythms and structure, but shares lyrical inspiration by Tolkien. It’s a tribute to the wizard Saruman and other like characters in the legendarium, for their will to power and domination by crafty and industrial means. This song features groove, fast licks, and some of our favorite riffs ever written. Can’t wait to perform it live!“
Necrophony Tracklist: 1. Masquerade 2. Mask of Red Death 3. Oathbreaker 4. Mind of Metal 5. Storm of Strings 6. Test of Time 7. Darkest of Knights 8. Prophecy 9. Children of the Night 10. Beyond the Grave 11. Overture 12. Necrophony 13. Moonchild
About EXMORTUS: Los Angeles-based neo-classical extreme metal mavens Exmortus return on new album, “Necrophony.” Four years in the making, the groupâs sixth album offers nothing but savage rebirth and fierce renewal. “Necrophony” marks a significant turning pointâone foretold by the Legions of the “Undead” EP in 2019âfor the Angelenos. Not only have they emerged from the throes of the pandemic stronger, faster and crazier, theyâve signed on to global metal powerhouse Nuclear Blast. The passion and fury of lead-off single âOathbreakerâ is merely the tip of Exmortusâ darkest tower. Follow-on singles like the powerful âMind of Metalâ and âStorm of Strings,â a whistle-stop, no-joke cover of Greek-American composer Yanni interpreting Vivaldiâs âSummer,â add greatly to Exmortusâ masterly oeuvre.  Exmortus was founded in 2002. The group issued a bevy of well-received demos and EPs that culminated in debut In Hatredâs Flame in 2008. Since then, Gonzalezânow flanked by specialists Phillip Nuñez (bass), Chase Becker (guitars), and Adrian Aguilar (drums)âhas gone on to release four more fan-favorite full-lengths. Exmortus have toured with Amon Amarth, Obituary, Death Angel, and more, playing gigs in North America and Europe. The groupâs highlights have also included a stint with thrash legends Exodus at industry lighthouse event NAMM and a coveted spot on the 70000 Tons of Metal cruise. Necrophony, a portmanteau of ânecroâ and âphonyâ (or âdead soundsâ), is Exmortus bigger, badder and wickedly restless.
Written from a fresh slate, Necrophonyâs origins can be traced to preludes âMasquerade,â âOverture,â and the intro to âChildren of the Night.â Once Exmortus had the feel down, they settled on expanding on the motifs by forging Viennese sophistication with metal might. Careful observers will hear Exmortusâ clever use of the albumâs musical theme throughout its 12-song range. That includes âDarkest of Knightsâ and the aforementioned âChildren of the Night,â as well as Necrophonyâs shorter bursts of bravado in âOathbreakerâ and âBeyond the Grave.â The most important attributes were, however, vibe and Exmortusâ careful crafting of their next-gen sonic fingerprint.  Whereas previous albums up through 2018âs “The Sound of Steel” have been predicated on heroic fantasy/sword & sorcery, Necrophony turns a decidedly darker page. Exmortus have gone from a “Conan the Barbarian” and “Gladiator” aesthetic to something blacker, more nefarious as illustrated by the eeriest and evilest Lovecraftian and Tolkien-esque tales. Thereâs even a classic horror thing happening. This is, of course, a reflection of our immediate world, and the darkness thatâs engulfing everything in it.  Exmortus invited Renaissance man Zack Ohren (Fallujah, Immolation) to return as engineer, producer, mixer and mastering ace on Necrophony. Certainly, the team that had cemented the groupâs three previous albums into the annals of metaldom was going to work yet again. With Ohren at the helm, Exmortus holed up in Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, CA. Necrophony was fast-tracked in just under two weeks. The result is a clap of virtuosic metal sure to leave fans battered, bloodied, and hungry for more violent opulence.  With âOathbreaker,â âMind of Metalâ and âStorm of Stringsâ ringing darkened ears Exmortusâ paroxysmal ascent to extreme metalâs upper echelons is guaranteed with Necrophony. Bow in reverence to the high-flying, six-stringed dynasts now.

Southern Californian death/thrash battalion EXMORTUS has officially joined the roster of metal’s heaviest label Nuclear Blast Records. In addition to the signing announcement, the band is giving fans a taste of their highly-anticipated next album with the single ‘Oathbreaker,’ which is available for streaming now and accompanied by the music video created by Wayne Joyner (DREAM THEATER, DEVIN TOWNSEND).
Commenting on the signing, founding guitarist Jadran âConanâ Gonzalez says:
“We are very excited to announce that our upcoming album will be our first with Nuclear Blast as our new label. We’re working with them to bring you what we consider to be our best album yet!”
Adding about the single, Conan states:
“‘Oathbreaker’ is the perfect teaser for the new album. Not only is it fast, heavy and filled with shred, but it’s inspired by Tolkien’s haunting lore of the Dead Men of Dunharrow in the Lord of the Rings: the Return of the King. While our previous work focused more on the heroic aspect of fantasy and sword & sorcery, this album expresses the darker side with tragic heroes and horrors of humanity. Enjoy the new track cause we feel it belongs in our setlists for years to come!”
EXMORTUS‘ new single was produced and mixed by Zack Ohren (MACHINE HEAD, FALLUJAH) and is the first new music since 2018’s acclaimed full-length The Sound of Steel and subsequent 2019 EP, Legions of the Undead. The band recently supported DEATH ANGEL on the road and are expected to announce additional touring soon.
About EXMORTUS: Founded by guitarist Jadran âConanâ Gonzalez when he was just 12 years old, EXMORTUSreleased their debut album, In Hatred’s Flame, via Heavy Artillery in 2008. After gaining additional acclaim with their 2011 sophomore effort Beyond The Fall Of Time, the group signed a three-album deal with Prosthetic Records in 2013. In support of that acclaimed trilogy of releases (2014’s Slave To The Sword, 2016’s Ride Forth and 2018’s The Sound Of Steel), the band toured alongside some of metal’s biggest names, such as AMON AMARTH, DEATH ANGEL, ABBATH, MARTY FRIEDMAN, OBITUARY and DARK TRANQUILLITY, earning extensive praise along the way for their live power, prowess and proficiency.
Now signed with powerhouse label Nuclear Blast Records, EXMORTUS enters the next phase of their career, armed with their best record yet due to infiltrate the metal masses sometime in 2023.
The sound of steel will ring out loud and proud once again this summer, as the death/thrash/shred metal quartet EXMORTUS return to the tour trail for their first live dates in more than 18 months. As road warriors who have toured extensively in recent years with the likes of Amon Amarth, Death Angel, Abbath, Marty Friedman, Obituary and Dark Tranquillity, it was an uncharacteristically quiet period for the California-based slaves to the sword, but the band promises that their summer shows are the first of many more to come.
âIt’s been way too long!â exclaims singer/guitarist Jadran âConanâ Gonzalez. âWords cannot express how excited we are to hit the road again! Can’t wait to shred your heads off this Summer!”

While off the road, the band has been working diligently on new music that they plan to release in 2022. It’s been some time since the group released a five-song EP in Oct 2019 titled âLegions of the Undeadâ in conjunction with M-Theory Audio. In addition to neoclassical-tinged covers of Danny Elfman’s âBeetlejuiceâ theme and Bernard Hermann’s iconic âPsycho Theme,â the set included two new original tracks and a powerful rendition of âNight On Bald Mountain,â a classical piece originally written in the 19th Century by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky. More information on EXMORTUSâ new album recording and new label home will be revealed in the coming months.
