At 11AM PST on May 2nd, SLAYER guitarist Jeff Hanneman passed away near his Southern California home; he was 49 years old. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed.

Emmy Award winning video director Fabio Jafet and author/ musician/online radio host Joel Gausten have both issued tributes to Hammeman:

Jafet: “This is a piece I cut that featured Jeff Hanneman and his guitar tech Warren Lee. I am pretty sure this was his last tour, and it was also a huge moment for my son Eric as I took him backstage and he got to play Jeff’s guitar. It’s absolutely horrible that he’s gone. RIP Jeff.”

Gausten: “How many people can you say truly helped to build and personify a genre of music? Slayer is to thrash what the RAMONES are to punk. For many of us, they were the starting point to the heaviest style of music in the world and the standard by which all other thrash is measured. Jeff Hanneman – as brutally intense and influential as they come. Damn, that guy will be missed.”
