Guitar virtuoso Gus G. (FIREWIND, Ozzy Osbourne) has just checked in with the following message for his fans:
“I’m definitely not a philosopher or good with giving advice to anyone, but since I get asked a lot about the “music career” thing and how to “make it”, I’d like to say this:
I feel uncomfortable every time a journalist in my country asks me “do you think you would have achieved all this, if you hadn’t left Greece”??
First of all – I’m from Thessaloniki and I STILL live there. I love it.
But sometimes I feel that people expect to hear from me the “secret” to success. Guess what – there’s no such thing. There are no shortcuts. If you want something bad enough, you’ll find a way to make it happen. Simple as that.
I don’t know what my life and career would have been like if I hadn’t traveled to America and Sweden back when I was 18. I’m pretty sure I’d still be playing music though!
If you want me to tell you that you need to invest time, money and your personal life, then YES, I confirm that. How much time? All of it. How much money? I don’t know, that’s up to you, I cannot do the logistics for you and I cannot tell you which direction to go. Only YOU can sense that for yourself and decide.

As previously posted, Gus G. has completed the video clip for the first single, “I Am The Fire (Feat. Devour The Day)”, off his upcoming solo album debut “I Am The Fire”, out March 17th, 2014 in Europe and March 18th, 2014 in North America via Century Media Records. The glamorous clip, which was once again produced by Patric Ullaeus / revolver.se (Within Temptation, In Flames, Lacuna Coil, Europe, etc.), is now being premiered via the website of UK’s Metal Hammer Magazine.
Gus G. checked in to comment about the video as follows: “Hey everybody! Check out the brand new video for “I Am The Fire”! Filmed both in Sweden and the US, this is a very different performance clip from anything else I’ve done in the past. Devour The Day are some of the most creative musicians I’ve ever worked with and Patric Ullaeus gave a very cinematic approach to the clip. I hope you dig this! Enjoy!”
The US group Devour The Day, who team up with Gus G. on this remarkable track, added the following comment: “We are so honored to be a part of such a diverse and incredible record! “I Am The Fire” was an opportunity to bring so many influences and styles together with an open minded approach lyrically. “I Am The Fire” is from the perspective of passion itself and I love that. The “I Am The Fire” album sees Gus G. handling guitar, bass and keyboard duties and showcases a long list of highly skilled instrumentalist peers as well as several remarkable vocalists joining Gus to stress the versatile stylistic approach of the 12 featured songs. The roster of friends and guests that help bring Gus G.’s vision to fruition include drummers Jeff Friedl (A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, Devo) and Daniel Erlandsson (Arch Enemy), bassists David Ellefson (Megadeth), Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big, David Lee Roth) and Marty O’Brien (Tommy Lee, We Are The Fallen) as well as Mats Levén (Candlemass, ex. Yngwie Malmsteen/Therion), Blake Allison (Devour The Day), Michael Starr (Steel Panther). Alexia Rodriguez (Eyes Set To Kill), Tom S. Englund (Evergrey), Jacob Bunton (Adler) and Jeff Scott Soto (TSO, ex Journey) as guest vocalists.
“I Am The Fire” was mixed by Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Stone Sour, Steel Panther, etc.) and was partly recorded in Los Angeles and partly in Gus’ home country of Greece during the past months. Gus performs the BLACK SABBATH classic “Into The Void” and two solo tracks, “My Will Be Done” and “Blame It On Me”, with drummer Jeff Friedl (A PERFECT CIRCLE, PUSCIFER, DEVO), bassist Marty O’Brien (TOMMY LEE, WE ARE THE FALLEN, LITA FORD), and vocalist Mats Levén (CANDLEMASS, ex-YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, THERION). A first song from the album can be heard via the video for the album’s opening track, “My Will Be Done” (featuring Mats Levén), which was produced by Patric Ullaeus of Revolver Film Company, who has previously worked with DIMMU BORGIR, LACUNA COIL, IN FLAMES, SONIC SYNDICATE and KAMELOT, among others.

“I Am The Fire” was mixed by Jay Ruston (ANTHRAX, STONE SOUR, STEEL PANTHER) and was recorded between Los Angeles and Gus‘ home country of Greece through the latter half of 2013. A few of the album’s tracks include “Eyes Wide Open”, “Redemption”, “End Of The Line” and “Blame It On Me”. The album showcases a well-balanced mix of active rock, classic hard rock, traditional metal and guitar-driven instrumentals, taking listeners on a diverse journey and opening doors to Gus G.‘s soulful playing.

Gus G. has had an amazing rise within the worldwide rock and metal scenes and has amassed an impressive body of work, both in studio and touring. He emerged as an up-and-coming talent with the groups DREAM EVIL (Sweden), MYSTIC PROPHECY (Germany) and NIGHTRAGE (Greece), but it is his work with his own band FIREWIND (who have released seven studio albums and two live releases) and as a member of Ozzy Osbourne‘s band that have helped him emerge as one of the world’s top metal and rock guitarists. His work on Ozzy‘s “Scream” album led to a Grammy nomination in 2010, and his list of accolades includes Guitar Player magazine’s “Best Metal Guitarist,” the “Dimebag Darrell Shredder” award at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards, and Metal Hammer Greece “Best Guitarist” on four separate occasions.
