HATEFORM: To Release ‘Sanctuary In Abyss’ In March

Finnish thrashers HATEFORM will release their third album, “Sanctuary In Abyss”, on March 1 via Spinefarm Records. Drums for the CD were recorded at Petrax Studios (CHILDREN OF BODOM, NIGHTWISH, ENSIFERUM) with engineer Santeri Salmi. Guitars, bass, and vocals were laid down at Ansa Studio with engineer Jori Haukio. The CD was mixed by Thomas “Plec” Johansson (WATAIN, ESKIMO CALLBOY, SCAR SYMMETRY, GRAVEWORM, MORS PRINCIPIUM EST, AS YOU DROWN) and was mastered by Mika Jussila (NIGHTWISH, CHILDREN OF BODOM) at Finnvox Studios.

HATEFORM Preparing To Enter Studio

Finnish thrashers HATEFORM will enter the studio this summer to record their as-yet-untitled third album for a late 2012 release via Spinefarm Records. Drums are scheduled to be recorded at Petrax Studios (CHILDREN OF BODOM, NIGHTWISH, ENSIFERUM) with engineer Santeri Salmi. Guitars, bass, and vocals will be recorded at Ansa Studio with engineer Jori Haukio. The CD will be mixed by Thomas “Plec” Johansson (WATAIN, ESKIMO CALLBOY, SCAR SYMMETRY, GRAVEWORM, MORS PRINCIPIUM EST, AS YOU DROWN) and will be mastered by Mika Jussila (NIGHTWISH, CHILDREN OF BODOM) at Finnvox Studios.

Interview With Guitar Wizard Tom Gardiner From Hateform: The Second Display Of Hate

Hateform released their first album ”Dominance” in 2008. It was a strong opening and the band won the “Newcomer of the year” award in Finnish metal awards. I expected that Hateform would have broken its way straight to Finnish death metal elite club. For one reason or another the band didn’t get as popular as it deserved. And recently was released the second new weapon called “Origins of Plague”.

Metal Shock Finland’s JM Helmi recently had a chat with Hateform’s Tom Gardiner.

1. Hello Tom! Hateform released the second full length album “Origins of Plague” few weeks ago. We wrote a review of that album but now you have a chance to describe the album. So, what kind of piece of art have you made?

Our cover art? In the booklet, there is all these sewn up “holes”; ears, mouth, and if you look closely there is a sewn up vagina, heh heh. But the most noticeable is the front, where the sewed up eyes start to open! One eye is open, while the other is still closed.. The idea in this comes from us (people) keeping too much stuff locked inside. So put on the CD, and you’ll hear all the rage packed within us bombarding out as a “vulgar display” of musical madness.. Other way we think of our cover art is the meaning behind the title, Origins Of Plague. We’re not about dragons and magic or any of that dark age shit, but the tittle is kind of a summary of the basic thoughts behind our lyrics, between the lines! If you start to think where did the “plague” come from that consumes you and paralyzes you inside, all you have to do is look in the mirror when you wake up! So the cover art goes nicely with the title, I think!

Review: Hateform – Origins of Plague (2010 – 7:45 Records)

Hateform released their first album ”Dominance” in 2008. It was a strong opening and the band won the “Newcomer of the year” award in Finnish metal awards. I expected that Hateform would have broken its way straight to Finnish death metal elite club. For one reason or another the band didn’t get as popular as it deserved. Now it’s time for the second coming with the new weapon called “Origins of Plague”.

The opening track “Hate Equals Salvation” gives a helluva starting shot for the album. It’s a furious combination of rage and masterful control of instruments. A little bit easier parts only make you more humble before the next beating. When you add a few melodic guitar leads and solos in it you get the form of hate. “Foundry” continues with the same elements and offensive choir growls work fine.

“Abhorrent Reincarnation” has more groovy riffs and it gives a nice variety among the brutal riffs. “Rise of the Deceived” is a basic Hateform song. The guitar solo is great but otherwise it’s not the best part of this album. “Remain Unbound” is again more aggressive song including a very easy middle solo part. That middle part sounds pretty nice but its necessity is doubtful.

“Non Compos Mentis” is a little bit slower track and it falls behind the faster tracks. “There Will Be None” is a perfect example of that. It’s like rapid fire but the most important thing; it’s an excellent song too. Arch Enemy on speed might sound something like this. “Needled Be Driven” has a lot of stuff in it but anyway it’s a little boring to be a Hateform song. The final track “Set Out the Sun” manages to combine different elements in one song very well. The end of the track is very massive including a cello solo. A great ending for the album.

Hateform is a great band and this album is a very strong presentation of their abilities. This album is one of the most interesting Finnish releases this year.  Every fan of technic and melodic death metal should get to know this band.
