Each band member affects the sound in an unique way, coming from different backgrounds, such as metal, stoner, grunge, black metal, prog and new wave. Just recently Tarja Virmakari had a chance to interview the band’s vocalist Andrea Amerini, talking about “New Omega” and what is it all about:
Hi Guys, welcome to Metal Shock Finland. How are you doing?
Hello! All good, and you?
All fine, thanks! Let’s start with your band name “Hot Sunday Blood”, what is the story behind it?
Our Sundays (or at least those Sundays I remember since I was a kid) are usually sweat/lazy/relaxing days in which we can pretend we care about useless staff, like the weather, and also we can pretend we care about all the blood spread during the past week. That’s how we came up with “Hot Sunday Blood”.
Would you like to introduce us your new line-up?
After recording our second album, New Omega, two members have left the band and have been replaced by a new drummer, Carlo Borra, and a new bassist, Paolo Iulita.
Your latest album “New Omega” came out in October 2017, via Mervilton Records. How has it been received by your fans?
Our new album “New Omega” just came out on October 13th, so it’s kinda early to say how it’s going. We’d like to have a biggest range of visibility, that’s for sure. We aim to do more, to reach more people, but you know, in Italy is not such an easy job ’cause things don’t really work properly.
How does “New Omega” differ to your debut album “Someone Left Behind” (2014)?
Our first album, “Someone left behind”, was a bit more grunge-oriented and highly influenced by our youth’s bands. New Omega is somehow more personal; musically speaking, it’s an heavy rock album, with many non-rock influences such as English new wave and pop.
How would you describe your sound and influences?
We’ve got so many influences that would be quite difficult to list them; we can be extremely heavy or extremely pop. We all come from a metal-music background but with great crushes on pop artists (such as Morrisey, Curtis, Bowie and Cave).
Tell us about the song-writing process to this album, both lyric and music wise.
The creating process is quite simple, actually: we come to play on rehearsal with bunch of ideas that became music, like a natural flow. That’s how our songs are created. Lyrics come after, when the song is done and I already know what it’s talking about; I just write down my feelings and thoughts.
The album title “New Omega” refers to the album concept, please tell me more about it.
The title refers to a rebirth after a corporal death. The whole concept evolves around life and death, taking inspiration on Jesus Christ and his suffering.
The album coverart is quite “different” than we normally see in metal world, so please tell me about this choice.
We had enough seeing skulls and bones and coffins on metal cover art, honestly. You can be full of dark contents even with two classy figures and an aseptic background. Life can be beautiful from the outside, but rotten within.
So far, you’ve released a lyric video for “Salvation (Omega into Flesh)” and “Souleater” as a first single out of the album. Can we consider these two songs as a summary of the whole album?
These two songs are just two facets of the album. Two out of nine. We’ve chosen Souleater as first single because is a bit more straighforward and is shorter than other songs.
Are you going to release also a music video?
Sure. We’ve just been working on it these days. It’ll be a portrait of decay and deprival. Stay tuned.
How are you going to support the album? The next live shows or tours in Italy/abroad?
We’ll be on tour from February, starting with Torino, our city, and the whole region. Regarding tour-dates abroad, we’re looking for some opportunities.
You were formed in 2013 in Turin (Italy), how do you see the music scene in Italy for a comparatively young band as you are?
Music scene in Italy is ridiculous, as it always as been. Bands are left alone, no help whats-so-ever and only money can open some (few) doors. A total shit. There’s no real scene, no collaboration, very few good ideas but mostly no clubs to play in for young bands; only plenty of arrogance and boredom.
What are your targets for the near future?
Work hard, play hard, reach as many fans as possible and collaborate with qualified people.

• Salvation (Omega into flesh)
The first part of “Salvation” suite is based on Arabic riffs and the pairing of clean and growl vocals. The song has solid heavy rock structure with melodic elements and talks about Jesus Christ’s rage during his own crucifixion.
• Salvation (Tears of absolution)
The suite’s second part is the heaviest track of the album. Musically speaking is an old-school metal song totally singed in growl vocals, except for its melodic refrain. It’s about Christ’s invective against his Father’s decision.
• Salvation (Observed)
The second part of “Tears of absolution” can be considered as the third part of the suite. It’s a dark song with a funeral mood; the meeting point between Katatonia and Bowie. A flow of Christ’s thoughts during his carnal death. God is the observer of this departure.
• Die Free
A classic hard rock song with clean vocals and numerous instrumental parts. The track talks about liberation through death.
• Rich n’ fallen
A hard rock song with Mastodon’s inspiration. Easy listening, heavy with southern/stoner influences. Lyrics recount deals between hopeless men and evil.
• Troublemaker
A sort of false ballad focused on easy listening vocals and an alternative fresh flavor. Slightly resemble an unusual match between The Calling and Silverchair. The story of a guy who apologizes for his dissolute life.
• Still broken
Grunge oriented song with a sweet/dark mood. Alice in chains meet Type O Negative in a very peculiar way. This track’s about our generation: always in search of nothing, and struggling with love and solitude issues.
• Souleater
First single chosen to symbolize New Omega. Outright hard rock song, with clean vocals and gothic elements. H.I.M. sweetness blended with Paradise Lost blackness.
A walk through an ancient cemetery and the presences that inhabit it.
• Salvation (Waiting to be saved)
Last song of the album and also fourth part of the suite. Tribal textures in 80’s dark atmosphere. Jesus Christ leaves his mortal remains, waiting to be saved.
