ZONDER WEHRKAMP, featuring drummer Mark Zonder and guitarist/keyboardist Gary Wehrkamp, released their debut album “If It’s Real” on May 24, 2019! The band has unveiled Gary’s 2nd part of “The Making of a Real Record”, discussing the song “If It’s Real”. Watch it here.

“How Does a guitar player write a song without a guitar? Ok! Here I have the second installment of my video series, “The Making of a Real Record”. I had this amazing, unique and moving drum loop from my friend, Mark Zonder, and I wanted to write something that equalled the emotion of his part. I really felt that some viola and other synth sounds would fit the bill but wanted my approach to be unique and natural. How do you create without knowing what will happen? I am blessed to have good ears, but I didn’t want them to get in the way, so I chose a new method – a blind (or deaf) procedure – in order to get started. For each song on this record, I found a new way to create with a different procedure . Find out what I did to get this title song started by watching this short video. Thanks for supporting this record (oops, CD!)”

This is just Gary and I being creative in a dark, moody and atmospheric way. Enjoy the journey.”

While ZONDER WEHRKAMP takes the two musicians on a different path, their musical pasts are very much influences on their current project. “If It’s Real” resonates with a tenebrous emotional intensity wrapped in a more melodic, ethereal sound and philosophical take on progressive hard rock.
