Brazilian heavy metallers IGNITED featured in the Heresy Online Fest on August 3rd alongside metal bands from Europe, the Americas and South Africa.
For their participation, the band recorded a live version of “Rotting” with the guest appearance of bassist Luciano Grunwald (Clipado Trio), replacing Sama Benedet, who left the group this year.
About the festival, guitarist Dalton Castro commented: “It was great to be featured in the fifth edition of Heresy Fest and it was a lot of fun to record it, a rare moments in these difficult times. I’m pleased to have our friend Luciano Grunwald playing bass with us, who did a great awesome job. Our deepest gratitude to Leo, responsible for the festival and to all the people who watched it.”
Currently the band is working on a live album, recorded during a concert performed alongside Mike Portnoy (ex-DREAM THEATER) at Bar Opinião, in Porto Alegre. The production is being handled by Thiago Bianchi.
Trym Torson, worldwide known as the EMPEROR‘s drummer, launched a challenge for drummers worldwide, the #1Minute2Metal, where Trym will choose and live stream his review of the 10 best contestants, rewarding the drummer with the most well executed, creative and complex entry.
Maurício Velasco, drummer of the Brazilian heavy metal band IGNITED, recorded his entry with the help of his band mate, the guitarist Dalton Castro, and the result can be seen at https://www.instagram.com/p/CNQox7FDOEJ/
About his participation Maurício commented: “I heard that Trym Torson, Emperor’s drummer, launched his Drum Challenge and I decided to participate, after all, it is a worldwide contest. I recorded the video in my home studio, with only 3 microphones. I recorded audio, video and sent it to Dalton Castro to make the mix, the result is there.”
Drummers interested to join the challenge can submit their videos until April 19th. All contest information is available here.
After released their debut album “Steelbound” via Voice Music last year, IGNITED started producing a live album, recorded during a gig alongside Mike Portnoy (ex-DREAM THEATER) in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The production is being handled by Thiago Bianchi (NOTURNALL, ex-SHAMAN), and it will be released by the end of the year.
While celebrating the release of their debut album “Steelbound”, Brazilian heavy metal band IGNITED received the news that their bassist Sama Benedet, was infected by corona virus.
The bassist shared his experience working with the local government in the band’s home city and getting infected while a 120km/h “bomb cyclone” hit the state: “Unfortunately I was infected by covid-19, despite taking all the precautions and working since March 10th on the front lines with the acquisition of supplies and services to fight the virus in our city, Balneário Camboriú. Fortunately I believe I beat the ‘invader’, but it wasn’t easy. Along with being isolated from the family, I ran out of of water and electricity in the first week of isolation due to the cyclone bomb that hit our state. I had unpleasant symptoms and the feeling that the moment is unique, singular, and that we mean nothing, that our art, our music is left in the shadows in a country where the current government rejects the cultural evolution built over centuries.
“After almost 90 days of being exposed, as I was unable to quarantine myself due to my work I had the unfortunate contact with Covid-19. Initially I felt tired and lost taste and smell. I immediately went to the hospital and checked in with my doctor. We started drug treatment along with isolation and hydration. It was hard! I had fever every night, shortness of breath, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. After the second week I started to feel better. I lost some weight, which was not all that bad! (laughs), but I don’t wish this thing for anyone. I even thought I was going to die when some close people started being hospitalized and some didn’t survive.”
According to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, Brazil has more than 4 million coronavirus cases and over 120.000 deaths. The cyclone bomb mentioned by Sama Benedet, happened on June 30th. It killed twelve people and left almost 2 million consumers without electricity.
About the whole situation the band commented: “We were very worried when we heard that Sama had been infected and we kept annoying him all day to see if he was okay, asking every two hours how he was feeling. Unfortunately we are living in a shitty time, with shitty leaders in several countries, who share misinformation and act in a presumptuous and arrogant way while dealing with matters they barely understand. It’s a violation of knowledge.”
After releasing “Steelbound” on all digital platforms, IGNITED signed a deal with Voice Music which made a physical release in Brazil on June 1st. You can check out below their video for the track “Ignition”.
After finishing the recordings of its debut album, Brazilian heavy metal band IGNITED signed a deal with Voice Music for the release. The full-length, entitled “Steelbound”, was recorded in Estúdio Fusão and produced by Thiago Bianchi (NOTURNALL, ex-SHAMAN) with artwork made by Gustavo Sazes, a Brazilian artist who previously worked with names like MANOWAR, ARCH ENEMY, MORBID ANGEL and DREAM EVIL.
In its lyrics, “Steelbound” addresses different subjects and experiences that are brought to the listener through metaphors, seeking an authentic connection with the fans, giving them the opportunity to make their own personal interpretations of each song.
The physical copy of the album can be ordered outside of Brazil through the band’s website – ignitedmetal.com – and the digital version is already live on Spotify and other major streaming platforms.
The guitarist Dalton Castro comments: “This deal with Voice Music is a big achievement for us and we are very excited for what comes next! We will work with the support of one of the best rock/metal labels in Brazil, which is managed by Silvio Golfetti, who carries the metal flag since the 80’s and is one of the biggest supporters of the Brazilian metal scene.”
