JEFFREY NOTHING, former vocalist of industrial metal band MUSHROOMHEAD, has released the official music video for his newest single, “The Outage.” Directed by Ian D. Sniesak and edited and shot by Jon Conner of A Hole in the Head Productions, with assisted videography by Thomas Church and Aj Taranto, the dark music saga features former members of MOTOGRATER and SKIN alongside the legendary front-man as well as former MUSHROOMHEAD guitarist, Thomas Church.
“We all come with an expiration date. From our first breath, till our last, we are a miracle in motion; full of emotion, fears, and an air of invincibility. How we treat our fellow man and our life matters. Other than love, you sincerely can’t take it with you. Above is a place I pray to one day be, not a circle I put myself in as I traverse this lifetime. Freedom means everything. All complexes aside, we have no owners. Dream big and share your soul… I, for one, will be listening. So many trash their bodies and minds and feel they just get to wake up from whatever mistake they just made no matter what. It is so heartbreaking to watch a generation be wiped out because they truly believe they are invincible. We are not. Risking oneself for that ever-elusive first high destroys far more than the singular self. Parents never want to outlive their children. You are not that invincible person who will beat any challenge, just because. Stop for one second and be that miracle baby again. Not the almost adult who crushed everyone’s dreams, all because you wanted to escape a temporary nightmare. Death is the end, not a new beginning. Ever.” – Jeffrey Nothing
“Life is full of hardships, challenges, tribulations… It can be difficult in the moments of pain to see through to the other side, that there’s a way to come out victorious. It can be easy to compromise or give in to something that offers a moment of relief; a temporary solution to a problem that might turn into a permanent consequence. It can be easy to think that you will remain in control but more often than not what we think we control ends up controlling us. Pain and trauma are the real gateway drugs and until we learn to face the pain and overcome we will continue the cycle of abuse, be it substance or other. If we don’t, addiction ends up being in control. It destroys what’s beautiful, and then dances and parades what remains around for all the world to see. It can be easy to become ensnared in the prisons of our mind. If we take a close look at ourselves in the midst of our addiction, it can seem as if we are suffocating, wrapped in the fake plastic of the lies we believe that have now led us to the predicament we are in.
Acknowledging there is a problem is the first step. Then we must fight, for our freedom and for our lives, one day at a time.” – Ian D Sniesak (Vocals)
Jeffrey Nothing is the co-founder and former haunting voice behind Cleveland’s MUSHROOMHEAD. His distinct vocals had driven Mushroomhead’s frightening and extreme performance style, garnered them an enormously devoted cult following, and helped them to sell millions of albums worldwide. Jeffrey Nothing, formerly the haunting voice and co-founder behind Cleveland’s pioneering alterna-metal and industrial collective Mushroomhead, has unleashed a brutal new song and video entitled, “Never Enough”.
Watch the video for “Never Enough,” directed by Rob Neilson of Wired Digital here:
“Never Enough” is taken from the ‘DOOM CANDY’ EP; co-produced and co-written along with fellow former Mushroomhead guitarist Thomas Church. The EP is available via Zombie Shark Records at http://www.zombiesharkrecords.com/doomcandy
Jeffrey states, “Throughout life, people or situations will try to tell you that you are a follower and you should be quite content in that role. There is no such thing as give and take. You give and they take. But for all your efforts, the things you contribute, the things you create are just OK. They can be made into something! Freedom is an incredible feeling. You dream again, believe again and feel like… you truly could fly. Rise above. Be you. ‘Fly High Above, Nothing’s Ever, Never Enough!”
Thomas Church adds, “I really enjoyed writing ‘Never Enough.’ It brought out some emotions that had been hiding in plain sight for a moment. The interlocking of melodic and moving melodies mixed with aggressive and emotional passages comes through as a true representation of the human soul.”
Jeffrey Nothing is most known for his role in Mushroomhead; his distinct vocals had driven Mushroomhead’s frightening and extreme performance style, garnered them an enormously devoted cult following and allowed them to sell more than one million albums worldwide. Jeff released his debut solo album The New Psychodalia in 2011, which included the single “Sin O’ Cism.” In 2013, Jeff starred in the movie 13th Sign. He was also the singer of Cleveland-based thrash metal band Hatrix, as well as fronting the band Purgatory in the mid ’80s.
“Sin ‘O Cism”, the new video from Jeffrey Nothing, the haunting voice behind Cleveland’s pioneering alterna-metal collective MUSHROOMHEAD, can be seen below. The track comes off Nothing‘s new solo album “The New Psychodalia”, which came out last October via Suburban Noize Records.
“The song ‘Sin ‘O Cism’ is a view of the state of the world today,” commented Nothing. “Government by the people is nothing more than a fantastic oxymoron. Money, or the lack thereof, is a huge deciding factor when it comes to one’s guilt or innocence and whether or not said individual will continue to walk free or rot behind bars. You would think humanity would make strides toward peace, enlightened by the costs in loss of life, from years of conflict and yet nothing really seems to ever change. We burn through our natural resources at a blinding pace with no thought of what our children’s children will use and life itself has dropped in worth much faster than our struggling dollar. Throughout all of this it is still us against them. The poor multitudes drowning in hope as the rich shell out hundreds a plate for the next best liar. We all create our own monsters because we want to believe someone so badly.”
Nothing previously stated abut “The New Psychodalia”, “The whole album is about escaping reality. People choose a variety of ways to feel better in the face of the depression that can be caused by trying to survive in a world that can seem completely uncaring and smothering. ‘The New Psychodalia’ is like a new safe hallucinogenic that makes all the ugliness in the world beautiful, with no harmful side effects. The entire album is kind of like a twisted, thought provoking view of the truths. It exposes the lies of the American dream that has really become more of a nightmare.”
Nothing has opened the door and revealed the skeletons buried beneath the floor boards with the release of “The New Psychodalia”. Mixing hypnotic rhythmic grooves and punishing riffs, along with Nothing‘s beautifully deranged lyrics, “The New Psychodalia” is a tormented soundscape that shakes listeners to the core. The album was produced by MUSHROOMHEAD drummer Steve “Skinny” Felton.
Nothing is currently on the road with MUSHROOMHEAD on the “Hed 2 Head” tour with (HED)P.E., AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE, CORVUS, and TENAFLY VIPER until the end of May.
