ALICE IN CHAINS‘ Jerry Cantrell and Mike Inez and actress Rita Wilson will be the guest speakers when Ann and Nancy Wilson of HEART receive the 2,481st star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame on September 25 in front of the Musician’s Institute at 6752 Hollywood Boulevard.
Producer of the Hollywood Walk Of Fame ceremonies Ana Martinez commented: “This location is a coveted spot for many rock ‘n’ rollers and these ladies will join the likes of bands JOURNEY and MÖTLEY CRÜE, who also have stars on that property. We are thrilled with this latest star addition as many young, aspiring female rockers look up to these legendary ladies of rock ‘n’ roll.”
HEART‘s joint autobiography — “Kicking And Dreaming: A Story Of Heart, Soul And Rock & Roll”, will be published on September 18. Their new studio album, “Fanatic”, will be released on October 2.
Inez has toured as part of HEART‘s lineup and appeared on the band’s 2003 “Alive In Seattle” concert disc.
In a 2006 interview, Inez told Launch about the enormous respect that ALICE IN CHAINS and others have for HEART‘s Ann and Nancy Wilson. “As far as Seattle goes, they are rock royalty,” he said. “It’s just amazing songwriting and just stood the test of time over the years, some timeless music. Just the people that showed up for [the 2006 taping of VH1 Classic‘s ‘Decades Rock Live!’ that paid tribute to HEART] is amazing, people from Carrie Underwood to Phil Anselmo from PANTERA and everybody in between. You got your Duff McKagans playing and Gretchen Wilson, and that’s a testament of the respect that these girls really carry in this business.”
The eighth annual MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concert honored ALICE IN CHAINS co-founder Jerry Cantrell and certified interventionist and Sony/ATV Music Publishing Senior Consultant Neil Lasher on May 31 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. Cantrell was honored with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his dedication and support of the MusiCares MAP Fund, and for his commitment to helping other addicts with the addiction and recovery process. All proceeds benefit the MusiCares MAP Fund, which provides members of the music community access to addiction recovery treatment regardless of their financial situation.
A three-and-a-half-minute report from Revolver TV can be seen below.
“I’m honored to be chosen this year,” Cantrell told Rolling Stone magazine. He added, “I am nobody’s fucking role model. It’s too much pressure: Everybody’s human, everybody has flaws, everybody falls down. It’s just a fucking fact of life. And a lot of people stand and get the fuck back up after falling. Some people don’t get that chance. My band’s been a harsh example of that — what happens when you don’t deal with it.”
Hosted by television personality Steve-O, the evening featured a special performance by Cantrell and his ALICE IN CHAINS bandmates, who played a five-song acoustic set at the event consisting of “Nutshell”, “Your Decision”, “No Excuses”, “Got Me Wrong” and “Would?”Grammy-nominated musician Moby DJed live during dinner.
“Jerry‘s role in shaping the world of rock music is profound and ongoing,” said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy and MusiCares. “His artistry as a guitarist is inspiring, and his contributions as a songwriter have earned ALICE IN CHAINS millions of fans around the world. And Neil has built an extraordinary career spanning more than 30 years in the music industry, and a parallel career in the field of substance abuse where his name has become synonymous with recovery and survival. But what unites Jerry and Neil are their unwavering support of MusiCares and our recovery programs, and their unselfish capacity to be of service to music people struggling with addiction.”
“From what I’ve seen, addiction can be an occupational hazard in the music business and I know firsthand how the MusiCares MAP Fund helps artists and members of the music community find the resources for recovery,” said Cantrell. “I’ve been a supporter for a long time, and I’m proud to help raise awareness and funds so this organization can continue to save lives.”

ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell is among the Northwest artists who have recorded overhead safety and informational announcements that will be heard at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport as part of The Sea-Tac Airport Music Initiative, Experience The City Of Music — a cooperative effort by the Port Of Seattle, Seattle Music Commission and PlayNetwork.
The Cantrell PSA alerts travellers to the airport’s no-smoking policy: “This is Jerry Cantrell of ALICE IN CHAINS reminding you that smoking is allowed on the lower drive outside the building and only in designated areas … Bummer, dude.”
For the Sea-Tac program, the Port Of Seattle turned to Redmond, Washington-based PlayNetwork, a creator of “original vibes” for more than 15,000 clients around the world. Working with the Seattle Music Commission and other groups, the company came up with a four-pronged program which also features overhead music from Jimi Hendrix.
The Sea-Tac Airport Music Initiative, Experience The City Of Music will launch this week to showcase the northwest region’s music culture and enhance the experience of millions of passengers who pass through Seattle-Tacoma International Airport each year.
The Sea-Tac Airport Music Initiative, Experience The City Of Music is a comprehensive program that enhances the traveler’s experience by utilizing speakers and screens airport-wide to feature a diverse variety of northwest music from the soulful sounds of Quincy Jones to the poignant lyrics of Eddie Vedder. Travelers will also hear artist-read public announcements, enjoy curated videos on terminal and baggage claim monitors, and listen to a multi-channel web radio player available through the free airport Wi-Fi network.
“The Port is pleased to be a leader in this effort to promote the region’s music industry and to increase the visibility of local musicians at the airport,” said John Creighton, Port Of Seattle Commissioner. “From Jimi Hendrix to the Wilson sisters, Chris Cornell and many others, the Seattle area has a strong music heritage. Over 32 million passengers pass through Sea-Tac Airport each year, giving us a unique opportunity to introduce a new generation of local musicians to travelers and tourists.”
