When asked if it is still difficult for a woman to get ahead in the Heavy Metal hard rock genre she replied,
“I think there is still an under current of a struggle for women in Metal but it’s definitely gotten better. I got to talk to Lita Ford and Pat Benatar and they were telling me about these incredible situations that they were in in order to get their record played. Thanks to our fore Mothers I haven’t had to do some of the things they had to do. ”

Their publicist said do you want to go? I said yeah I would be honoured. I am very happy about it I haven’t seen the band in years”
Jimmy Kay from Canada’s The Metal Voice spoke to guitar legend Michael Schenker (UFO, Scorpions, MSG). Schenker spoke about his new Album, Michael Schenker Fest ‘Resurrection’ featuring 4 singers of his past Gary Barden, Graham Bonnet and Robin McAuley and Doogie White. with guest appearances by METALLICA’s Kirk Hammett and Wayne Findlay , which will be available March 2 2018 on Nuclear Blast.

Schenker also spoke about how his brother Rudolf Schenker from the Scorpions has mistreating him and explains Graham Bonnet departure from the band during the Assault Attack era after exposing his penis on stage
When asked about the idea to do a Michael Schenker Fest Album featuring all four singers from his different eras
“I had the idea of getting all these different lineups that I created over the years putting it all together and creating something very powerful. We have four singers, four completely different voices on one album. For the hard core fans it must be amazing to time travel and go from 1980 to today and hear these different voices. For myself I find it very entertaining especially hearing songs where they all sing together like the song Warrior.”
When asked about Graham Bonnet’s firing during the Assault Attack era, when Bonnet exposed his penis on stage
“I didn’t fire him. I really never fired anybody. With Graham it was the most unusual thing that ever happened in my life. We made a great record which became a musicians favorite, with a fantastic rhythm section and a fantastic vocalist a great chemistry. We were on stage in Sheffield, England starting our set and 15 minuted into the set I’m playing a solo and when I look to the center of the stage Graham was gone. Apparently he exposed himself . I don’t know what happened and I never tried to find out why he was gone and we had a Reading Festival coming up and so we asked Gary Barden if he could come back. ” (Bonnet has told The Metal Voice he was fired by Management )
When asked if he would ever reunite with UFO?
“Maybe Phil Mogg would be available in singing a few songs off ‘Strangers in the night’ with the Michael Schenker Fest for the 30 year anniversary of the album on some festivals. And maybe Klaus Meine from the Scorpions would consider at some point showing up at the Schenker Fest in 2019 singing my first ever written song ‘In Search of Pieces of Mind’ off the Lonesome Crow Scorpions album. ”
When asked if he was still upset at his brother Rudolf Schenker after the re-release box set of the Scorpions Lovedrive album
“My brother is a cheat. I stay away from him. Disrespectful disgracefully and let him be who he wants to be . I just cant trust him and I just stay away from him as far as I can because he rips me off whenever he can. He copied everything I did . If he wants some goodness to come out of it he has to clean his side of the street that’s up to him. Klaus Meine (Scorpions) is pure soul he is the only artist in the band, he is carrying the whole Scorpions. My sister said to me Rudolf is a greedy Wanker it raised concern and when they approached me with a 2015 Scorpions re-issue of Lovedrive and presented a completely false bio for the album I was very disappointed. The lied about everything. I was the one who helped them out and opened the doors for America for the Scorpions. It wasn’t therm helping me. I had a contract for Lovedrive as a six member of the band, there should have been a picture in there of me, they should have mentioned I wrote the intro to Holiday and the song Coast to Coast which I gave him my writing credits to Rudolf. Why does Rudolf play a Black and white guitar why does he dye his hair white? Rudolf was pretending to be me. Do you think Rudolf gives anybody his share in songwriting ? Rudolf Schenker is a desperate wanna be who rips his brother off. Rudolf cannot play guitar believe me.”
Jimmy Kay from Canada’s The Metal Voice recently spoke to NWOBHM singer Steve Grimmett of Steve Grimmett’s GRIM REAPER. When asked about his relationship with the late producer Chris Tsangarides (1:26)
“I have known about Chris for a really long time. We started getting in touch in 2016 and we got on really well. I talked to him about mixing the next Reaper album and I was really looking forward to it cause he was going to teach me all he knew about mixing in the process and it’s a real dam shame it didn’t happen. ”
“When I had lost my leg Chris got in touch with me at least once a week for the rest of 2017 and he was such a nice guy he wasn’t interested in how the music was going or anything else all he wanted to know was how I was doing. I did the same thing for him because he had some problems before he died and I stayed in touch and made sure he was ok. Then to hear that he had passed away suddenly it was absolutely gutting. When I think about it or see his pictures it really gets to me. We lost a lot of good friends over the past few years but I think Chris has affected me more than anybody else. As far as I’m concerned we lost one of the biggest rock influences that there will ever be.”
When how far ahead were they in making the new album with Chris Tsangarides mixing (4:04)
“The deal was done. Chis was going to mix it, it was suppose to be in October 2017 but I had to put it off because we were building a new recording studio and everything was put on the back burner, what a dam shame .”
When asked about the timeline of the new Grim Reaper album (4:52)
We have gotten 7 or 9 songs written, basically we want to write 16 or 17 songs to then come out with 12 songs which would give us an extra track for Japan. I would like to maybe start recording in March 2018, it will probably take three months to finish after that and then the record company will get on to release it in 2018. (summer)
When asked about the experience of losing his leg in the hospital in Ecuador one year ago Jan 17 (7:46)
“When I was in the hospital I had absolutely no one there to speak to I couldn’t even contact Millie my wife because when I went in the hospital they took my phone from me because the hospital told them not it have it on me because it would be stolen. I couldn’t even talk to my wife about having these operations. The guys and the promoters disappeared after 5 days, so I had nobody to talk to it was awful but I had to dig in and find that inner strength. ”
“I had three operations, five altogether but three of them were under epidural, which numbs the body below. For the first two operations they were sawing my leg off and I could hear them cutting through the bone. Then I got the Flesh Eating Disease that’s when they had to cut me above knee (Femur) which is a real BIG bone, they got the saw stuck in it twice cause it was all hand saw. There was nothing modern about the techniques in Ecuador. I did not want to watch it. When they actually cut through the Femur I could actually feel that vibration and I said to myself now you gotta dig deep inner strength. I was thinking about all the veterans that came home with their legs blown to bits and who am I to sit and cry about it ? “
Jimmy Kay and Alan Dixon from Canada’s The Metal Voice recently spoke with STRYPER front man Michael Sweet. Sweet spoke about the New Stryper album, a new song called Take it to the Cross that will feature Death Metal growls, new bassist Perry Richardson faith and the shooting of the upcoming Stryper Documentary
Watch the interview here:
When asked if he would consider doing a project with Dave Mustaine from Megadeth
“You got to talk to Dave about that. I mentioned it to Dave in multiple texts, let’s write, let’s co-write let’s do this let’s do that and he always invites me out to his place in Nashville. Dave has always been very gracious and I have never been able to get to Nashville or at least in the past few years to plan out an actual session with Dave to write. But Dave and I at some point I hope will collaborate and do something together. I love Dave I respect him I think he is a brilliant mind, brilliant musician and he is a friend of mine.”
When asked if being a Christan was part of the job description in hiring Perry Richardson
“It’s a valid question, to answer your question, NO and it might make people gasp, it might shock people, it might even lose a few fans by hearing Michael Sweet saying that. What is at the top of the priority list is that they are good people, that they are clean and sober and that they are really good musicians and for Stryper a really important piece is that they can sing. we are a vocal band. It’s not easy to find somebody that can sing and that can play and that is a great person. ”
“The Christan thing is that doesn’t always make you a great person. Some of the biggest idiots I know claim to be Christian and then vice versa. Is it something that would be really great to see and have of course, it’s funny cause Perry has said that he is a Christian. But we didn’t go there.”
When asked if Perry Richardson played bass on the New Stryper Album
“The situation with the new Stryper album Perry had a schedule to fulfill and we were on schedule to make the new album so there wasn’t anyway he could play on the album, so next time around we will see. So for the new album we hired called John O’ Boyle who played bass on my last two solo albums, his performances will speak for themselves.”
When asked about the musical direction of the new Stryper album
“The new album comes out in late April 2018. I can tell you this this is Stryper’s best album. There is a song that is close to Yahweh (song from Fallen album ) and it’s really different it will surprise a lot of people. The title of the album is very controversial and very shocking, it holds its own and perhaps surpasses To Hell with the Devil in terms of that catch phrase. There is a song called ‘Take it to the Cross and we brought in Matt Bachand who plays guitar in ‘Shadows Fall’ and also plays Bass in ‘Act of Defiance’. And Matt has a great growl voice. So we brought him in on ‘Take it to the Cross’ (new song) and on the chorus you will hear Matt growl and at the end of the song you will hear Matt growl.People are going to hear that and say that”s no way Stryper! More in line with Thrash, Death Metal but not over the top. People are going to hear it and say WHAT THE HELL? ”
When asked about the Stryper Documentary
“We started shooting it while making the album and we are going to continue filming and shooting throughout this year on tour and interviewing lots of people, from Pastors who have changed their lives who were alcoholics and drug addicts, to celebrities who grew up listening to Stryper, people unexpected. We are trying to show the side of the affect Stryper has had on people’s lives and of course the music, tons of home video footage too.”
