Bagpipes & Rock’n’Roll for the season of St. Patrick’s Day. JOETOWN’s new release “Irish Blessing” celebrates some elements of Irish heritage with a song inspired by and dedicated to his late father. “It’s emotional”, says Joe, “The Irish Blessing poem still hangs over our door where my Dad placed it years ago. Those words have always meant so much to me and even more so now in this tune.” The high energy video features the outfit performing live on a truck moving through many large events last year.
The band is a having a release party at their hometown haunt, Cherry Street Station in Wallingford today, on St Patrick’s Day, March 17th.
Bagpipes & Rock’n’Roll. If not for the venerable Bon Scott & AC/DC these two things would have remained mutually exclusive. But, for Joetown, it served as inspiration for the style and sound of the band to which they are so proud. Joe gave some insight, “Kerry Gollarney (Guitarist and Bagpiper) is a secret weapon! When those pipes come out the crowd goes f’n mental, it’s like a war cry!”. The new single is a remade version of the Bon Scott era AC/DC classic “It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll)” and is complete with video of the band rolling through the city streets in major civic events such as the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. “The video just happened to work out since we have been doing so many public events, I figured, let’s do it like the original AC/DC video they did through the streets of Melbourne. The song and the video are a way to honor how much the song and lyrics have been an inspiration – they are our musical heroes and I think we capture the spirit of what it is all about.”

Frontman Joe Delaney, (also the voice of popular hair rockers Bomber Alley), gives the signal of much more bagpipes in the mix and is excited that the next single is an original tune that features the pipes, “that sound is stuck in my head now and as a songwriter, I hear melody in that register every time, similar to having its a horn section or B3 player.”
The band will be performing at the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Hartford & New Haven Connecticut, USA, March 11th & 12th with a release party at their hometown haunt, Cherry Street Station in Wallingford on St Patrick’s Day, March 17th.
“Good to see this band called Joetown, from another generation and continent, do a very authentic and respectful retake of the iconic AC/DC video that I was involved in ‘Long Way To The Top’,” says Michael Browning, AC/DC Manager (1974-1979).
Chris Slade (Ex-AC/DC) is quoted as saying, ”Great Pipes!”
Following up on the success of the recent single “Freightrain”, long time legacy rocker, vocie of Bomber Alley and producer JOETOWN releases the single “Nero” world wide on Mindsnap Music / Von Artists, Ltd. This track digs deeper into the artist’s complexity and range. Joe explains; “I have always been difficult to put squarely into any one genre, this proves that again, its heavy rock, its metal, its progressive, it has a f’n whistle track, wtf… I was really excited to get deeper into more expansive arrangement, orchestration and guitar playing on ‘Nero’, all the guitars and bass are me, with Matt Starr (Ace Frehley, Mr. Big) tackling the drums.”
He continues, “Lyrically, ‘Nero’ is a critical summary of the influence that people in power possess in the 21st Century due to the advent of social media platforms supplanting actual delivery of facts. We live in a scary time as propaganda moves at the speed of light enabling leaders to manipulate the public in unprecedented ways.”
Regarding the Ennio Morricone tribute element, Joe is quick to give praise; “I’ve always loved the Ennio Morricone scores to the early Clint Eastwood and other westerns from that era, the material is so amazing! I let that influence and shape the entire end section of the song as a tribute to such a great composer… his music and style will forever endure.”
Joetown is proud to be performing live and on a float at the 2022 New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade March 13th and will be recording the entire event. He will also be headlining Crystal Bee’s in Southington CT on March 19th.
Joetown has been an active part of the New Haven scene since 1995 and is enjoying recent success from the late 2021 single “Freightrain” released by East Haven based Mindsnap Music. Christian “Opus” Lawrence of Dead By Wednesday, who owns Mindsnap Music is excited about the growing excitement around the band and its upcoming new single/video release “Nero” from the label on March 11th. “It’s going to be a major big week for the band and the label, so many great things are happening so fast, this band is on fire!” says Opus (Mindsnap Music / Dead By Wednesday drummer).

JOETOWN released his new single titled “Freightrain” on all streamable & downloadable platforms via Mindsnap Music / Von Artist Inc. and distributed by The Orchard / Sony. The single features special guests Matt Starr (Ace Frehley and Mr. Big) on drums, Jimi Bell (Autograph, Geezer Butler and House of Lords) on lead guitar and Mike Duda (WASP, Hookers and Blow) on bass. The song was produced & mixed by Joe Delaney and mastered by Steve Turnridge. In addition, he also released the official music video for the single that was shot and edited by Joe Delaney.
Mindsnap Music has recently put out the likes of Bomber Alley, Dead By Wednesday, OPUS (solo acoustic), Howland Hyatt (feat. Stet of Metal Church), Joey Concepcion and more!
With Joetown generally pissed-off about the state of affairs in America, “Freightrain” is an angry, boisterous rant that takes aim at those who pull the strings of power and influence. 2020 was, in his own words, a “fucked-up year” and with everything shut down, “Freightrain” was the first Joetown recording to be done remotely.
”As a guy who has always just assembled a bunch of great players in a big live room and hit record, this process was entirely different, but it worked out thanks to the players involved. Since I’ve done records with all of these cats before, it still felt natural and exciting. These guys are all old friends that happen to be world-renowned players,” says Mr. Town.
Matt Starr, drummer for Ace Frehley, Mr. Big and others, recorded often at the original Joetown Studios in the mid-late 90’s and is the drummer on the classic track “Curbside Sleeper” that appears on Joetown’s album Rock’n’Roll Man.
Matt says, “I learned long ago to always expect the unexpected when playing with Joe. ‘Freightrain’ was no exception. The twists and turns are fucking awesome and it’s a great song that I’m grateful to be a part of.”
Jimi Bell is the ultimate shredder and currently the guitarist in Autograph, but he also has a history with Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath, House of Lords and others. Jimi was actually Joe’s guitar teacher as a teenager. Previously, Jimi and Joe made a popular version of “Paradise City” by Guns N Roses that is on multiple G’n’R compilations.
“I’m truly honored that Joe asked me to play a solo on this track. We’ve been friends since the 80’s and I have always had the utmost respect for him as a guitarist, singer, song writer, engineer and producer. We’ve worked together before on a couple of records and it’s always been an incredible experience,” says Jimi.
Mike Duda is best known as the bassist from WASP since the early 90’s, along with being in Dizzy Reed’s Hookers and Blow. He has been close friends with Joe since high school and also appears on the album Rock’n’Roll Man.
“Joe is one of my oldest and dearest friends! I have the utmost respect for him as a musician, songwriter, producer, engineer and as a person! Every time he asks me to do a session I don’t walk, I run! ‘Freightrain’ is just another example of Joe’s awesome catalogue of work. Some of the most enjoyable moments of my career are working with Joe because I understand where he’s coming from and he understands where I’m coming from. Every time is an amazing creative journey,” adds Duda.
Joe’s other recent releases have been singing on Bomber Alley’s new single “We Get By” as well as vocals, lyrics and lead guitar on the album “Phoenix Rising” by the popular doom metal band Curse the Son.
