Watch the interview here:
When asked about the musical direction of the song he sang on the new upcoming Metal Allegiance Album called Volume 2 Power Drunk Majesty
“It’s cool it’s heavy it’s kind of like sounds old school but has a new school vibe to it. Cool riff it almost has a little Anthrax feel to it. It’s powerful some cool lyrics that Mark Menghi wrote about a Vietnam vet.”
When asked about Armored’s Saints Plans and time line on new Album.
“There is certainly a lot to write about, the way I usually write lyrics that are not about one particular topic. The songs I write have three different meanings running through them. I kind of feel if I am writing about a subject that is about a current time period, then it takes it away from being timeless. So I use metaphors and sometimes puns so there are double meanings. We have demoed five songs for the new album so far. I would like to get a new album out by the later part of 2019.”
When asked about the possibility of him touring the Anthrax songs he sang on
“The agent we have has been bugging me about doing this and I finally said I am open minded to doing. I am interested in doing some dates here and some dates there not a full 6 month tour. I have a few artists for this band, guitarist Paul Crook who was part of the recording of two of the Anthrax records (Vol 8 the threat is real, Stomp 442) I did. We shall see I am open to it.”
Jimmy Kay from Canada’s The Metal Voice recently spoke to ARMORED SAINT (Ex-Anthrax) singer John Bush about the bands current “Symbol of Salvation tour” and the filming of a live DVD. Bush also spoke about the bands plans for writing a follow-up to their last album “Win Hands Down” and the possibility or playing his ANTHRAX era songs live someday.
When asked about why the band decided on performing the complete album Symbol of Salvation on their upcoming tour
“We are going to play the Symbol of Salvation record in it’s entirety, it’s a classic Armored Saint record, we never ever done anything like this before. The Symbol of Salvation record seems to be a kind of record that fans connect with at an emotional level. It’s the one record that almost didn’t happen and we made it happen after re-grouping the band after Dave Prichard passed away. There were a lot of stars aligning on that album. Win Hands Down came out 2015, it’s been almost three years, we did a live record and now the next step is to do a Live DVD that is something Armored Saint has never really done properly. We don’t know which dates yet where we will be filming the DVD we are still working that out. We will be playing a few songs from our Catalog we are still trying to figure out that out which ones we want to do.”
When asked about the status on writing a follow-up to Armored Saints last album Win Hands Down
“We have a couple of songs that me and Joey Vera kind of worked on, a couple more that we though of working on. Gonza and Phil Sandoval also have a couple of ideas that they wanted to send us. I think that realistically we can get a record out in the middle of next year if we are optimistic. It would be great to have all the writing done by the end of this year. Armored Saint can try to be a little quicker in the way that we write songs as long as we feel like there is quality control on it. We love ‘Win hands Down’ our last album, we think it’s a great record, we just want to pick up where we left off in terms of musical direction on this upcoming album, to continue with that style of the last album. The new songs kind of write themselves ”
When asked if he would ever consider playing on all Anthrax set live
“I have talked about possibly doing that and it is something that I am a little more open minded to doing more so than I was 5-10 years ago. It just has to be the right scenario. There has to be enough of an interest. It has to be the right band. It would have to be sporadic shows maybe some festivals. It has to feel right. It would have to be the right situation, we will see.”

Jimmy Kay from Canada’s ‘The Metal Voice’ recently spoke to John Bush lead singer of ARMORED SAINT and former front man of ANTHRAX. Watch the interview below.
Bush spoke to ‘The Metal Voice’ about Metallica, the early years of armour, jousting, car crashes with Tommy Lee and his 13 years of up and downs in Anthrax. As well as Armored Saints new Album ‘Win hands Down’
When asked how they financed their first E.P. that launched their career
“We were doing a show. One of the few people who attend the show was Tommy Lee. Tommy and Joey Vera were in a band before Armored Saint together and after the show they took off to go party somewhere. They ended up getting in a car accident. Next thing you know we get a call the next day and they said Joey is in the hospital and his hands are all cut up. It turned out he was going to be fine but he did obviously had an injury and he had some kind of insurance settlement that paid for the recovery of his hands and also got some extra money and from that extra money he decided to pay for the demo of the band. Funny thing is its actually in the book ‘The Dirt’ from Motley Crue. Vince talks about it but Vince gets it wrong he says they were on a motorcycle which was not true at all at was a car
When asked if Armored Saint was still in debt from recording their debut Album ‘March of the Saints’
Oh yeah because the record end up costing so much money, I’m speculating somewhere in the neighbourhood of $350,000. We were 20 years old, we didn’t know any better , it was an awesome moment and we were riding the wave. We don’t get any money from the first three records
When ask if he ever auditioned or jammed with Metallica after being made the offer to sing for the band
“No it never got to that, I think for me it was an easy decision to make because Armored Saint was becoming popular and all the guys in Armored Saint and I grew up together. It didn’t make sense for me to go quit my band that I am in with my friends and join this other band . I always make the joke, I would have change the face of Heavy Metal I don’t need that kind of pressure”
When asked about his decision to join Anthrax
I had to think about it . We just made Symbol of Salvation that was a great record. I didn’t like the idea that I was leaving the band and kind of abandoning the band. But I just had to, the results were kind of similar to what we had accomplished before. It was time for me to move on. I think it was important for me in Anthrax to be part of the songwriting process I didn’t want to go and be told what to do . I heard that’s kind of how they worked with Joey
When asked his feeling about finding out about Anthrax’s decisions to do the reunion tour with singer Joey Belladonna
I was pretty close to all of them in my own way. I think it could have been handled a bit better. The manager created a kind of wedge. If those guys would have come to me and said were considering doing a reunion tour it’s the right time. I’m sorry, I would have said I understand. The rumours were already circulating we were still touring and people were asking questions and those guys are trying to deny it, we were doing like interviews together and I knew.
It’s water under the bridge. I would entertain Armored Saint opening for Anthrax. I do love the music I created in Anthrax. I would actually prefer them to play a couple of songs (John Bush era)
When asked about his feeling towards the Armored Saints new album ‘Win hands down’
I think it’s an amazing record. It’s pretty awesome to say after all these years there seems to be that kind of feeling behind it that maybe it’s best record we ever did which is quite an accomplishment For us the whole general feeling was to able to take what we do and to take it a step beyond.
