Lee Kerslake accepts platinum discs at Metal Hall of Fame 2019 R.I.P.
Iconic former Ozzy Osbourne and Uriah Heep drummer Lee Kerslake passed away last Saturday, September 19th, from cancer. He was 73 years old.
Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne recently joined with the Metal Hall of Fame to give Kerslake his dying wish of receiving his platinum record awards for his contribution on the “Blizzard of Ozz,” and “Diary of A Madman,” albums, after 39 years of legendary lawsuits, ongoing legal battles, and constant controversary between the two camps. Both Osbourne records are widely considered by critics and fans alike to be amongst the best albums ever written.
The Osbournes recently agreed to grant Kerslake his dying wish of receiving his platinum albums, after being contacted by Metal Hall of Fame President/CEO Pat Gesualdo. Gesualdo informed the Osbournes that Kerslake had terminal cancer, and that he wanted to help mend the legendary 3 decade old, ongoing, headline grabbing feud, which was levied over financial payments and song royalties between the Osbournes and Kerslake. After conversations and much strategizing, the Osbournes and Gesualdo arranged to have the Platinum record awards presented as a surprise to Kerslake for his Induction into the Metal Hall of Fame, at the Annual Metal Hall of Fame Celebrity Gala.
“It was a great honor to help grant Lee his dying wish of receiving his platinum records awards for his brilliant drumming and song writing abilities on the “Blizzard of Ozz,” and “Diary of A Madman” records, after 39 years. It was also a true honor to join with Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne to make that possible for Lee. I am extremely grateful for them doing so. Lee is a drumming icon and our hero. We can never forget his friendship, and the great songs and talent he gave the world, both as a drummer for Uriah Heep, and Ozzy Osbourne.”
Kerslake had been working on a solo album entitled “Eleventeen.” A much anticipated documentary on Lee Kerslake featuring Kiss, Uriah Heep, Ozzy Osbourne band members, and other rockstars has been in production by film maker Tayla Goodman, and is waiting to be finalized.

In regards to Sharon Osbourne’s recent claims that Ozzy was always a solo act and never a band
“First of all Sharon wasn’t our manager at the beginning, Don Arden’s son David was our manager for a time and he asked us what are we going to call the band? Then Bob Daisley said what about Ozzy Osbourne’s Blizzard of Ozz? So they went with that. The whole team at the office said yes and that was before Sharon came over and took over as the manager. I have the recollection that we spent quiet a bit of time naming the band also I wouldn’t have joined Ozzy it is wasn’t a band. I wasn’t out of work. I was doing my own solo venture where I got a call saying you have got to join this band. So then I said I will audition them and they can audition me. After my audition was a success I said if we are a band then I am in. Then Ozzy said this band will never part. That is all I needed, was Ozzy the singer in his words saying we were a band and that’s when we started working. ”
When asked when Ozzy did his first tour of the U.K. on the Blizzard of Ozz , what was the band billed as on the tour, which started September 12, 1980
“Ozzy Osbourne’s Blizzard of Ozz.”
When asked about his upcoming documentary and interviews with Kiss
“I had the most wonderful honour to see Kiss. We asked the band through my director, producer Tayla Goodman of my documentary. She got in touch with their manager and the manager said I just spoke with Paul and Gene and they both turned around and said without question anything Lee wants, he gets, we honour him cause he is a legend. The we had a long chat about the good old days. Also they let me go see their show in the UK and they treated me like royalty. Then we did an interview with them. I would also like to mention that Ian Paice from Deep Purple and Joe Elliot have also been interviewed for my documentary and now we are waiting to catch up with Nicko Mcbrain from Iron Maiden for an interview.”

“The phone rang about month and a half ago, it was Pat Guesaldo CEO of the Hall of Heavy Metal History and he said we would like to induct you into the Hall. Pat said we would love to have you in California for the Gala but I said I am on a pension and I can’t afford it. Pat then said what if we take care of it for you . Then I said without sounding like a Deva I can’t travel coach cause I have arthritis and bone cancer. Then Pat said no worries we are going to fly you first class. I nearly broke down and cried. I finally got to California, the flight took 10 hours and when I landed I said to myself, I MADE IT, I haven’t done this for 22 years.”
When asked about his reaction to finally receiving the platinum discs from Ozzy and Sharon and a personal letter
” We were filming me packing for California on my upcoming autobiography documentary and then my manager came in and said I have a surprise delivery for you and he brought in these two big boxes and they were the two platinum Ozzy discs, it was a crying moment. We finally buried the hatchet between the Osbournes and myself. I respect Sharon and I love Ozzy to bits. Ozzy also sent me back a beautiful letter hand written.”
When asked about his current health situation
“The cancer has come back unfortunately, it has come back with a vengeance but I am not worried about it at the moment I am enjoying this moment and all the love. I am having a great time. My doctor told me before I left they will be putting me on a new drug and I am hopeful.”
