Dark metal unites with punk rap in a way never seen before! LORD OF THE LOST and SWISS & DIE ANDERN open up a musical crossover universe that’s been left uncharted – until now.
Supposedly coming from different musical worlds, the Hamburg scene greats have joined forces to make a clear statement on the ravages of time with intelligent and socially critical texts! The contrast between punk rap and dark metal embodies the dichotomy of current socio-political issues and addresses them with a good dose of irony.
“Schwarz Tot Gold” (engl.: Black Dead Gold), referring to the colours of the German national flag (Schwarz, Rot, Gold = Black, Red, Gold), criticizes capitalist establishment and suppression of the vulnerable.
SWISS on the collaboration: “’Schwarz Tot Gold’ delivers a crossover mix from the core-oriented sound of both bands that has never been heard before in Germany. Two styles and bands meet each other, which are already pioneers of their own scenes themselves, but at first glance do not fit together. The result of this experiment is unique and groundbreaking for us so far.”
LORD OF THE LOST frontman Chris Harms on the background of the new single: “This song was created detached from any album plans, neither from us nor from SWISS. This song was born out of the necessity to open your mouth. In Germany where splinter groups are spreading insanity and are actually talking about ‘Corona dictatorship’ and lack of freedom in the course of pandemic measures, we would like to draw attention to the REAL problems that have grown up over the years and that move this country – or slow it down. Especially as a band whose albums otherwise offer little fertile ground for social criticism in terms of content, it was a real relief, and an overdue time, to address these issues.”
In 2021, LORD OF THE LOST will finally be back on German stages on their Ensemble Tour: w/ Rain Diary 07.04.21 DE – Hamburg / Friedrich-Ebert-Halle 08.04.21 DE – Mainz / Kurfürstliches Schloss 09.04.21 DE – Wuppertal / Historische Stadthalle 10.04.21 DE – Munich / Alte Kongresshalle 11.04.21 DE – Berlin / Huxleys Tickets are available HERE
LORD OF THE LOST‘s new classical ensemble album, Swan Songs III, proclaims its mission statement almost immediately, not least due to Chris Harms’ distinctive voice and the sophisticated arrangements of this extraordinary line-up. Being the first band of their genre to release a cover of John Cages’ piece 4’33”, the dark metal sensation proves that they can’t be pigeonholed.
The original piece is based on occasional noises, created and perceived by the listener during a performance – thus 4’33” is a composition that differs from other arrangements primarily because it recreates itself every time it’s played or performed.
The track symbolizes the fleeting nature of the moment turning all the ambient noises, usually hidden behind harmonies and sounds, inside out whilst emphasizing a new level of tonal sophistication.
LORD OF THE LOST takes the composition to a new meta-level and sets a statement according to the currently prevailing pandemic and the resulting, mostly silent, music and live culture.
LORD OF THE LOST about the new single and the video: “The idea to record a cover version John Cages’ legendary piece, “4’33”, was born from a joke, yet by the fascination of its message: silence is as much a part of music as notes or sounds of any kind. What happens if you extend the silence to the conceivable maximum? Is it still music? And if not, why? What provides us with the right to judge? When you have a look at the past – most of those appearances once being declared as “noise” are now a solid part of our culture.
Not only talking about rock or metal, but also about modern classical music or jazz. The last genre is the living proof that a rebellious movement against the establishment can become an important part of itself.
Nowadays the average attention on social media stories has dropped down to 15 seconds, so it becomes unmistakably clear how long 4 minutes and 33 seconds appear – unbearably long and silent. Due to the developments over the course of the current Covid-19 pandemic and the partially necessary shut down of the entire music- and live- culture, “4’33” was turning from a joke, or modern auditory artwork, into a memorial. A memorial to the oppressively loud silence surrounding us, all our fellow musicians and billions of music fans around the world”.
LORD OF THE LOST returns with the newest offering in their classic ensemble album series, Swan Songs III, the long-awaited successor to Swan Songs II, to be released via Napalm Records on August 7, 2020.
The standard version of Swan Songs III consists of new songs, all recorded with The Lord Of The Lost-Ensemble, and brand new versions of a hand-picked selection of LORD OF THE LOST classics, including the standout 18-minute-long song “Letters To Home”.
For all visual and audiophile Dark Metal connoisseurs, Swan Songs III comes with a high class Earbook, including demo versions of eight of the new songs, framed in 48 pages full of high quality LORD OF THE LOST illustrations, on three CD’s!
Swan Songs III will be available in multiple formats, including a box set, a high-class Earbook, and a 2LP Gatefold Vinyl. The album is a gift to all music fans and marks the next highlight in LORD OF THE LOST‘s musical career.
LORD OF THE LOST on the album: “The Swan Songs project started as a musical infidelity, continued in a beloved carry-on and became like a second musical DNA. Meanwhile, we feel at home in our second musical facet, as well as in our classifying LORD OF THE LOST sound / shell. Swan Songs III has a musical depth that even surprises ourselves with a certain distance to its finishing. It is by no means the last part of a trilogy, but so far our personal highlight of LORD OF THE LOST’s classical-career.”

“Dying On The Moon” is a beautiful ballad, perfectly performed by Chris Harms and Joy Frost, who’s voices complement each other perfectly in a bittersweet duet. Underlined by the classical The Lord Of The Lost Ensemble, the German Dark Metal maestros deliver a soulful and slightly desperate track that goes straight into the listeners heartstrings – an ode to trusting one’s soul’s decision and believing in yourself. The freshly released song is accompanied by a music video, inspired by technical achievements of the 60s and the moon landing, kept in black and white.
After teaming up on multiple songwriting and composing collaborations with LORD OF THE LOST in the past on tracks such as “Voodoo Doll” or “Ribcages”, for the first time ever, the voice of US American Singer / Songwriter Joy Frost appears on a song by the band. “Dying On The Moon” is the third single taken off the new classical ensemble album Swan Songs III, to be released on August 7th.
Chris Harms on the collaboration with Joy Frost on ”Dying On The Moon”: „After so many years of knowing each other and writing songs together, it was time to bring Joy in the spot light of the LOTL cosmos. I love her voice so much, I could listen to her all day. Whatever she sings, it sounds good. Anything.“
Joy Frost adds: “Chris and I have known each other since 2015. The summer when we first met, I was in the front row of his classroom as one of his audio engineering students. I remember dreaming about becoming a songwriter for his band during class, but at the time it was just a fantasy. Five years later, we’ve not only written several songs together but now he’s asked me to step out onto the stage with him as his duet partner. I feel sincerely thankful to have earned his trust in both music and friendship.“

LORD OF THE LOST‘s new classical ensemble album Swan Songs III proclaims its mission statement almost immediately. A surprising piano intro and Chris Harms’ dark and distinctive voice quickly gives way to “A Splintered Mind”, subsequently unfolding with the rich sounds of a full ensemble. The second single is lyrically driven by a torn apart and desperate protagonist in search of recognition and love. This theme is showcased in the songwriting, instrumentalization and general atmosphere of the song, which has been released today in conjunction with an official music video.
The video, recorded at the Friedrich Ebert Halle in LORD OF THE LOST’s hometown Hamburg and directed by Chris Harms, showcases the recurring mood that can be expected on Swan Songs III, while introducing the entire ensemble.
LORD OF THE LOSTon the new single and video: “It was very important to us that one of the core songs of Swan Songs III gets a video that introduces our entire 14-piece ensemble, because our acoustic excursion, initially planned as a small adventure, has already grown to this size. When we shot the video, the restrictions of the current pandemic had just been decided, so we just managed to shoot this video with our wonderful ensemble. A few days later this would not have been possible anymore. So we hope that this song will bring a little warmth to your heart, in this complicated time.”

Dark metal sensation LORD OF THE LOST returns with their newest offer in their classic ensemble album series: Swan Songs III, the long-awaited successor to Swan Songs II, will be released via Napalm Records on August 7, 2020.
Deeply emotional storytelling melding with beautiful harmonies and Chris Harms’ palpitation-inducing deep vocals make Swan Songs III absolutely exceptional. The first single, “A One Ton Heart”, presents itself as a powerful ballad that makes the listener dive away with heavenly piano parts, underlined by delicate acoustic guitars and soft drum rhythms that take the listener onto a musical journey.
LORD OF THE LOST on the new single and video: “Since the founding of LORD OF THE LOST, we have been wanting to shoot a video like this one. Unfortunately, none of our songs have ever fit to such a video. That hasn’t really changed with “A One Ton Heart”, but we didn’t want to wait any longer. So the video – in its non-existent statement – and our absurd looks have absolutely nothing to do with the song. Fortunately, the song didn’t care about that at all. And we have fulfilled another dream.”

After LORD OF THE LOST’s very successful 2018, they aren’t even thinking about taking a break. Right in time for their next tour, they’ve released an impressive new music video.
The Germans act between grace, elegance and gloomy harshness in their fifth video taken from their successful album Thornstar (#6 in German Charts). The video shows a very new visual side of the band.
“Loreley” is a female spirit and demigoddess in the Pangaeian civilization, which Thornstar tells us about in the song and video. She conveys the dead into the realm of the souls, equivalent to what we call Heaven today. She is the most direct link between Pangaeians and their maker. In the new video, “Loreley” is vividly illustrated by a graceful dancer. It leads the viewer directly in the deepest innards of the Pangaeian culture.
LORD OF THE LOST on the new video and the upcoming tour: “2019 – the Thornstar-tour continues and we never stand still. A steady alteration, musical and optical, is omnipresent in the history of LORD OF THE LOST and so it is always important to us to present our music visually in the exact way we feel it. “Loreley” combines beauty and grace with brutality and exaggerated kitsch. We are sure interpretations won’t come to a general conclusion.”
