San Francisco Bay Area metal titans MACHINE HEAD, will release their highly anticipated new album “Catharsis” on January 26 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. Today, the band has released a brand new track from the album entitled ‘Beyond The Pale’, here:
“I feel like metal could really infiltrate the mainstream with this album. And it needs to… now more than ever. A lot of consideration went into making these songs more identifiable to a wider audience. Simplifying ideas, simplifying hooks, really concentrating on story-telling as opposed to ‘brutal poetry’ or whatever. And while I’d love to say it was all some grand plan, there was no ‘plan’” Flynn adds laughing. “You never know where you’re going to end up whenever you start writing a record… you just write… but I tell ya what… we ended up with a landmark here.
Whenever you finish an album, you always feel proud, but this time… we’ve got something really special. We can feel it. We know it. »Catharsis« could really elevate our genre.”
»Catharsis« was produced by Robb Flynn and recorded, mixed, and co-produced by ZackOhren (FALLUJAH, ALL SHALL PERISH) at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, CA. Mastering was handled by Ted Jensen (HATEBREED, ALICE IN CHAINS, DEFTONES) at Sterling Sound, New York, NY. Cover photography was created by Seanen Middleton.

MACHINE HEAD wrapped up the touring cycle for their first Nuclear Blast Entertainment album »Bloodstone & Diamonds« in March 2016 with a whopping 283 concerts on 5 different continents around the world. Around 250 of those shows were performed as “An Evening With MACHINE HEAD” with no support bands and performances often lasting 2 1/2 to 3 hours in duration, much to their fans (called “Head Cases”) delight.
Three tours of the United States (with many dates sold out in advance), three tours of The U.K. / Europe, (including multiple dates in Russia and Greece), shows in Mexico and South America, a completely sold out run of 9 Australian / New Zealand shows, sold out dates in Japan, plus their first ever plays in Taiwan and Thailand, and all without any festival performances which the band publicly announced they would stop performing at in 2014.
»Bloodstone & Diamonds« debuted at #21 on the U.S. Billboard charts and has gone on to sell 285,000 copies worldwide.
MACHINE HEAD’s latest track ‘Is There Anybody Out There?’ released as a stand-alone, digital-only, non-album release became their #2 most streamed song ever on Spotify with 9 million streams in less than a year, and cracked the Top 40 on the Active Rock chart in the United States. It marks the first time for any Nuclear Blast artist to enter what is widely considered to be the “official rock chart” for the United States, and is significant considering there was no physical track sent to retail.
Their controversial video for opening track ‘Now We Die’ is at over 2 million views and can be seen here.

US metal giants MACHINE HEAD have announced their European headlining tour in support of their forthcoming ninth studio album, “Catharsis”, which is set for release via Nuclear Blast Entertainment in early 2018.
Vocalist/guitarist Robb Flynn tells us, “It’s been far too long since we’ve demolished venues in Europe and the UK! We have had an awesome and productive break writing our new album ‘Catharsis’, but now it’s time for MACHINE HEAD to go melt some faces!! The reaction to our last ‘Evening With’ tours in Europe and the UK was nothing short of incredible, so once again these dates will be ‘Evening With’ shows and will see us performing 2 ½ to 3 hours every night, with no opening bands.”
He continues; “We LOVED performing as an ‘Evening With’ for the EU and UK Head Cases and you guys loved it as well. The freedom to do whatever the fuck we want, for as long as we want every night was liberating. Jamming ‘Desire To Fire’ live for the first time in aeons at the Ten Ton Hammersmith show in London was epic as fuck! This is not what everyone else is doing, and frankly, there are not a lot of bands who could even pull it off, but MACHINE HEAD CAN pull it off, and we are excited as fuck to do it again. We are carving our own path here, playing by our own rules, and as an artist, it’s the best feeling in the world! No festivals, period! No supporting some stupid DJ! The Head will only be ‘Headlining’, so come on down and rage!!”

MACHINE HEAD recently wrapped recording their new album with Zack Ohren (FALLUJAH, ALL SHALL PERISH) at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, CA. Expect a January 2018 release.
Bay Area Metal Titans MACHINE HEAD got together in October 2015 and went into Trident Studios in California to record a new song called ‘Is There Anybody Out There?’. The band now posted the first making-of clip. Watch it here:
The song is supposed to be a single release and will be available digitally only.
MACHINE HEAD are currently touring Europe, see dates below.
The tour billed as “An Evening With MACHINE HEAD” spanning across mainland Europe and the U.K features no support bands, no locals, just 2 hours of bone-crunching metal anthems, deep album cuts, sing-a-longs, haunting atmospheric pieces, and pure fucking MACHINE HEAD!
“We’re doing ‘An Evening With’ MACHINE HEAD. Meaning: it’ll just be us, folks,” commented guitarist/vocalist Robb Flynn. “We are really excited about playing longer sets, throwing in some deep cuts, and just having it be our own world. We did this in the U.S. and eastern Europe recently and it’s done amazingly well. Fans seem to really love the “Evening With…” format for a band like us who has a long-standing and diverse catalog. While the sets vary from night to night, there were a couple nights on the last run where we reached the 2 hour and 40 minute mark. It was crazy! We could have played all night, the crowd was so insane!!”
In regards to the band’s decision to only headline their own shows throughout the »Bloodstone & Diamonds« touring cycle, as well as no longer play festival slots, Flynn elaborates: “We’re not trying to have a good time with a bunch of people who don’t know who we are. If MACHINE HEAD throws a party, big or small, we don’t want a bunch of ‘strangers’ there. This is about us and you guys, the die-hards, the Head Cases, The Fucking Undesirables! We don’t care about the others out there. We’re here and we’re not going anywhere. If those people want to be a part of this, they know where to find us. So for the time being, and maybe ‘forever’, we’re done reaching out for them.”
Pick up standard tickets, VIP Meet & Greet ‘upgrades’ (for folks who already bought tickets or want to add on later), and the ‘Ultimate VIP Package’ (where 1 person-per-show can own a ‘stage played’ Bloodstone & Diamonds guitar played by either Phil or Robb), all at this link.

Earlier this week, video footage surfaced of Phil Anselmo shouting “white power” after making the Nazi salute gesture. He issued a statement shortly after saying it was just a joke, but he was not apologizing. Yesterday, (Friday 29th January) Machine Head frontman Robb Flynn posted a video statement calling out Anselmo for his racist actions and alleging there was no white wine backstage and that he came up to Flynn that night and told Flynn that he hated the “n**ger era of Machine Head.” Other bands, like All Shall Perish have similarly lambasted Anselmo, reports metalinjection.net.
Anselmo just posted a video statement issuing a full apology. You can read his words below:
“Philip H Anselmo here, and I’m here to basically respond to all the heat I’ve been getting, that I deserve completely. I was at the Dimebash and it was extremely late at night. There was heavy duty talk between myself and those who love Dime. Heavy emotions were flowing. Jokes were made backstage that transpired upon the stage and it was ugly, it was uncalled for and anyone who knows me and my true nature knows that I don’t believe any of that. I don’t want to be part of any group. I’m an individual and I am 1000% apologetic to anyone to took offense to what I said, because you should’ve taken offense to what I said, and I am so sorry. And I hope you just…man…give me another chance…to…just give me another chance. Just give me another chance. I love all of you. And anyone who’s met me knows, I love of all of you. Bless you.”
