Roadrunner Records has posted a 30-second teaser where Opeth’s logo is seen landing on North America. Is it a possible tour or a teaser for follow-up to their 2011 studio album, Heritage? Stay tuned for updates and check out the teaser below:
PitCam.TV conducted an interview with vocalist/guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt of Swedish progressive metallers OPETH at this year’s edition of the Wacken Open Air festival, which was held August 2-4 in Wacken, Germany. You can now watch the chat below.
Asked whether OPETH has begun work on the follow-up to last year’s “Heritage” album, Mikael replied, “I’ve been writing a little. I’m going on a trip soon — next week — on my own, actually, which I’ve never done before. I’m gonna bring the guitar and write some stuff, hopefully. But I think we’re still touring, and we still have another European tour coming up in the fall. And that kind of prevents me from getting too into the work — the creative process. I’m gonna start writing more from real once we finish the tour. ‘Cause I don’t have much.”
Opeth frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt was interviewed by Warner Music Germany when the band played Rock im Park in July, and you can watch the clip below now. He talks about their plans for the rest of 2012, having a show scheduled in the Maldives the same day the country’s president was overthrown, culture shock moments on the road, and more. Enjoy!
OPETH mainman Mikael Åkerfeldt has recorded some vocals in collaboration with legendary GENESIS guitarist Steve Hackett. Åkerfeldt is featured on a re-recording of the classic mega-epos ‘Supper’s Ready’ from 1972’s Foxtrot album. Further details about the upcoming release will be revealed soon.
In other news, due to popular demand, Åkerfeldt has recorded eight further shows for Swedish national radio. De Bortglömda Mästerverken” (The Forgotten Masterpieces) is a series of shows where Mikael flips vinyl on air, playing mostly obscure progressive and psychedelic rock. The show is being produced by Andreas Matz for Radio P4 and will start airing on July 15th. You can also catch it online at Sveriges Radio.

Anyone who’s seen Opeth live knows that frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt is a master of absurdist between-song banter. And in the video below, that’s the side of him that’s showcased, as some crazy fan edited together all his stage commentary from the band’s recent performance in Atlanta on the Heritage Hunter tour with Mastodon and Ghost. Enjoy!
