Taking the layered electronics, cavernous sound-design and magnetic rhythms of 2021’s “Bring Down the Flags” to a logical conclusion, “Amidst the Flames…” is anchored by an abrasive and darkly cinematic Industrial aesthetic – contrasting brutality and catharsis in a flickering, spellbinding and unsettling trip into hyper-conscious rage.

“Amidst the Flames…” is connected to “Bring Down the Flags“, but not as a direct continuation – rather, as the next phase of the journey. If “Bring Down the Flags” was about grief and transformation, this album confronts what remains: the rawness of survival, the weight of memory, and the search for meaning amidst destruction. Fire is central to this record, both as a force of devastation and renewal. Where the last album was a descent into mourning, this one stands within the fire, facing its heat, questioning whether to be consumed or to forge something from the ashes. Both albums deal with transformation, but from different angles. After a couple of years performing both solo and alongside TREHA SEKTORI following the release of “Bring Down The Flags“, Marion helped forge a new entity, EITRIN, in collaboration with Dehn Sora (THROANE, TREHA SEKTORI) and Vindsval (BLUT AUS NORD). The alliance was conceived to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Debemur Morti Productions, with an instinctive and impassioned self-titled debut album released in December 2023. As a crowning moment, both MÜTTERLEIN and EITRIN graced the stage at the label’s own Servants of Chaos festival in October 2024.

In early 2025, MÜTTERLEIN unveiled plans for a third album, “Amidst the Flames, May Our Organs Resound“, a work that delves into the profound scars left by oppression throughout history. “‘Wounded Grace‘ was written during a time when I was reflecting on the pain endured by women, especially those who have been victims of violence and assault. The song speaks to the deep, silent suffering of those whose pain is often ignored, whose voices are silenced. When I refer to ‘faceless sisters’, I’m thinking of the countless women whose experiences are erased, forgotten, or dismissed.

I am still deeply shocked by how the voices of survivors are treated, particularly in my country. It feels like society is quick to silence them, to question their truth, or to diminish their pain. This song was born from that shock and the frustration of witnessing this systemic disregard.

The composition of the track was raw and emotional, reflecting the grief, but also the quiet strength that remains in the face of such violence. It’s about how grace is shattered, but how, despite everything, something endures. I didn’t set out to make a grand statement, but I felt this song was important because it captures both the trauma and the resilience of women who are too often left unheard.“

This album is an ode to all those who have suffered in silence, especially women, whose bodies have been instrumentalised and sacrificed, like Anarcha Westcott, a tragic and emblematic figure in the history of modern gynaecology.

My music is drawn to the silent world – those stories, lives, and sufferings that history ignores or erases. Anarcha Westcott was one of many victims of the oppression and slavery that built the foundations of Western progress. Her story is not an exception but a reflection of a larger system that thrives on the suffering of the most vulnerable. And too often, women bear the deepest scars. Especially now, when the world seems to be slipping back into obscurantism and violence, it feels almost absurd to talk about these things. It’s as if we’re stuck in a loop, questioning whether we’ve ever really moved forward at all. When personal pain meets collective history, the weight of silence is suffocating. I don’t pretend that music can change anything. But sometimes, making noise feels like the only thing left to do.“

“‘Concrete Black‘ is the first song I am sharing because it embodies the feeling that runs through the album. The lyrics express a sense of ongoing struggle: despite creating, despite trying to make sense of things, there’s this constant feeling of estrangement with the world around me. We seem to disappoint each other endlessly. The image of being ‘hollowed in concrete black’ reflects a sense of being trapped in this disconnect, unable to escape it, while the world burns on. It’s not the first track on the album, but I thought it was important to release it first because it captures the essence of the album – a confrontation with a world that feels distant and chaotic. May our organs resound amidst this tension, reminding us of the humanity we share in the face of it all.“

Five and a half years after the release of “Orphans Of The Black Sun“, MÜTTERLEIN return with a second work of Art. “Bring Down The Flags” consists of six experimental compositions whose strength lies in giving musical form to desperation, anguish, the surreal and the unsettling. Skillfully mixing Black Metal elements, doomy sounds as well as post-Punk savagery, Industrial rhythms and noisy sound collages, artist Marion Leclercq (ex-OVERMARS) crafted a sinister scream of pain, frustration and anger.

About one month before the release of MÜTTERLEIN‘s second album, “Bring Down The Flags“, Debemur Morti Productions disclose the closing track, ‘Requiem‘. Driven by drums and wavering ambient loops, MÜTTERLEIN‘s composition unhurriedly evokes a haunting atmosphere of misery. Due to Marion‘s deep and grim screams, the predominant depressive vibe is soon complemented by wallowing pain and frustration. With its nearly twelve minutes length, ‘Requiem‘ develops a hypnotic character and captivates the listener by removing all unnecessary arrangements.

Marion narrates about the creation and background of ‘Requiem‘:

“The writing of what became the lyrics to ‘Requiem‘ was the first thing that opened the concept of the new album itself. I decided very soon that they would be the last words I would say on “Bring Down The Flags“. I do not have much control over my compositional process. It is quite instinctive. Concerning this song specifically: I already had written the lyrics, like I said, and then I went on writing the drum lines and tried to find the right intensity and the right tempo that would fit my intentions concerning the vocals. It just sort of took a life of its own from there. It probably takes a special state of mind to create a song like ‘Requiem‘. I know this ‘Requiem‘ is a successful one because it provided the outlet for the ardor and the emotions that was stirred to the very depths along the whole writing process of this album.“

Conceptually, ‘Requiem‘ was specifically designed to end “Bring Down The Flags“:

“It was always clear that these words would end the whole story, yes. ‘Oblivion‘ being the exact last word you can hear. I also conceive “Bring Down The Flags” as a grieving process and as an attempt at transformation. ‘Requiem‘ would be the ultimate mourning ritual here and it buries much more than this album. It buries all that gave rise to the hurt and the anger it contains. It is a farewell, in fact … it burns it all … with strobes – acceptance … without hope.“
