Prepare to be drawn into a world where catharsis meets the desert’s desolate beauty. Dark psych folk visionary NERO KANE, alongside his enigmatic collaborator Samantha Stella, is set to release his fourth studio album, “For the Love, the Death and the Poetry”, on September 26, 2025, via Subsound Records. Accompanying this announcement is the unveiling of an experimental short film for the album’s lead single, “As an Angel’s Voice”, a track described by Kane himself as “A desert of the soul. The Love we were never given, a flutter of wings, the fall into the End. The Eternal.“
From his California debut to widespread acclaim, NERO KANE has meticulously crafted a unique and profoundly personal sound. “For the Love, the Death and the Poetry” is no exception; it’s a folk liturgy that navigates the complex terrain of eternal love, the raw fascination with death, and ghostly poetics. Listeners will find themselves immersed in a soundscape that American Songwriter magazine previously lauded as “A desert procession for the living, in goth-folk-style, searching for a belief.“
The album’s sound references the apocalyptic folk of Michael Gira/Jarboe/Swans, the gospel spirituality of Nick Cave, the perdition of Johnny Cash, and the tragic poems of Nico – the latter being evoked in Stella’s algid spoken word, as critics have pointed out. It also incorporates the vision of Jodorowsky and the sick sound of Italian Occult Psychedelia, an element that especially defines their live performances as captivating, shamanic, and unearthly.

The single “As an Angel’s Voice” is accompanied by an experimental short film directed by Samantha Stella, focusing on objects and symbols that have shaped NERO KANE‘s artistic journey. The musician describes the track with these words: “A desert of the soul. The Love we were never given, a flutter of wings, the fall into the End. The Eternal.” In the images, the dimensions of past and present reiterate an incessant circularity. Kane and Stella become imprisoned souls in the gothic atmospheres that recall the overturning of life and death roles in Alejandro Amenábar’s film The Others.
“As if Bela Tarr and Sergei Parajanov found themselves with Alejandro Jodorowsky in the American desert,” Stella remarks. The short film will be on display at the beginning of October 2025 at the MAIIIM Centre for Contemporary Arts in Genoa on the occasion of the anthological exhibition of Samantha Stella.
“For the Love, the Death and the Poetry” will be coming out on September 26 via Subsound Records in vinyl, CD and digital formats and is available for pre-order here:
