Niklas Kvarforth’s SHINING To Headline Razors Over Europe 2013 Tour, CREST OF DARKNESS And STERBHAUS To Support

According to Patricia Thomas Management, Sweden’s SHINING is set to headline the  “Razors Over Europe 2013 Tour” (a nod in the direction of the band’s 2007 tour “Razors Across Europe” with URGHEAL) which will take place over 17 dates during November and December of this year.  Norwegian Black Metallers CREST OF DARKNESS, who, like management roster-mates SHINING, will be touring with a new album, and Swedish Thrashers STERBHAUS, are set to support the tour which is presented by Catapult Promotion.  Routing confirmed so far for the “Razors Over Europe 2013 Tour” as follows:

SHINING is a band that needs no introduction, particularly to fans of Black Metal and DSBM, for whom NIKLAS KVARFORTH’s unruly child has been a yardstick for superb musicianship, skilled writing, and a complete disregard for the artificial rules placed on the genres by a generation of fans who only became aware of Black Metal long after the band was formed back in 1996.  Never a band to stick to a repetitive formula when playing live, SHINING’s performances are emotionally charged and “of the moment”, with audiences always wondering what to expect next from one of the scene’s most dynamic frontmen.   SHINING has a new full-length  album, “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd”, due out on Dark Essence Records on the 23rd September, which features guest vocals from some of the elite of Black Metal including ATTILA CSIHAR (MAYHEM, TORMENTOR),  MANIAC (SKITLIV, EX MAYHEM), GAAHL (GOD SEED, WARDRUNA, TRELLDOM, EX GORGOROTH), FAMINE (PESTE NOIRE) and PEHR LARSSON (ALFAHANNE), a track from which can be heard below:

CREST of DARKNESS is another band with a long history behind it – 18 years to be precise.  With six full-length albums under their belts, CREST OF DARKNESS this year saw Kickass Metal webzine place two of those albums in first and second positions in their “Norwegian Heavy Metal Albums of All Time” feature.  Combining elements from both Black and Death Metal together with founder Ingar Amlien’s interest in Vampirism and Satanic ideology and his passion for sonic brutality, CREST OF DARKNESS’ sound has grown in power and intensity over the years and the recent addition of a young new guitarist has breathed a renewed sense of enthusiasm and a fresh outlook to the band. Sweden’s SHINING Debuts Track From Upcoming Album

According to Patricia Thomas Management, A track from “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd”, the upcoming album from Sweden’s SHINING due to be released on Dark Essence Records, has been debuted today. Featuring songs dating back to the band’s “Livets Ändhållplats” and “Angst” era, “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd” is a rare foray for the band, in that all the vocals on all the tracks, bar-one, are performed by vocalists specially chosen by SHINING founder and frontman Niklas Kvarforth, with some being sung in the native languages of the guests taking part.  “Selvdestruktivitetens Emissarie” the fourth track on the six-track album features Gaahl (GOD SEED, WARDRUNA, TRELLDOM, EX GORGOROTH ) on vocals and is currently being streamed by Metal Hammer, together with an interview with Niklas Kvarforth.  It can be heard at http://www.metalhammer.co.uk/news/exclusive-shining-swegaahl-track-and-interview/

The tracks on “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd” are in their original pre-production format, to which have been added newly recorded bass and guitars, as well as keyboards by Lars Fredrik Fröslie (ANGST SKVADRON, WOBBLER, ASMEGIN), whose sound is a realtively new addition to SHINING’s releases, not having been used before the band’s sixth album.   Track listing and featured vocalists as follows:

Patricia Thomas Management has issued that The long-awaited details about which vocalists would be featuring on “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd”, the new album from Sweden’s SHINING, have been announced today, and not unsurprisingly Niklas Kvarforth has chosen some of the most iconic frontmen from the Extreme Metal genre, as well as a some perhaps surprising choices, to take part in the project.

Niklas Kvarforth’s Book Heads To Printers For Second Edition

Much to the surprise of SHINING’s founder NIKLAS KVARFORTH, “When Prozac No Longer Helps”, the book of his lyrics that he translated into English from his native Swedish, and which was published in December of last year, sold out in a very short time, and a second edition is now at the printers, ready for its 23 September release.  The second edition differs slightly from the original in that it contains a handful of minor corrections, and two additional lyrics, one being those for the song “Through Corridors of Oppression” which was previously omitted, and lyrics which Kvarforth wrote for Norwegian Black Metallers URGEHAL six months before the untimely death of their frontman Trondr Nefas.  As with the first edition, the second will feature the English and Swedish lyrics side-by-side and will also be limited to 500 copies signed by Kvarforth.  It will once again only be available directly from the band’s webshop in order to make sure that the true fans who want a copy get a chance to buy one without having to pay inflated prices elsewhere. “When Prozac No Longer Helps” garnered praise from fans and critics alike, who were at long last able to understand the true emotions and the darkness behind the lyrics that accompany SHINING’s music.  WATAIN’s Erik Danielsson perfectly summed up the depth of Kvarforth’s body of work saying: “The dark and narrow back alleys of the human mind are best explored and translated into art by those who abide in them. Artists who are not trying to hide their wounds or helplessness, neither their lustful yearning for Death and misery. . . This is why Niklas’ writing stands out as genuine; it comes from a sea of darkness in which he learned to swim a long, long time ago”.

Commenting on the decision to print a second edition Kvarforth said: “When we decided to publish the original version, we were not entirely sure that there would be much interest in a book of lyrics, and we were astonished at the speed with which it sold out, every copy having been snapped up within six weeks.  We were even more surprised when we were approached by several people who wanted to translate and publish the lyrics in their own languages, which is something that is in the works.  It just goes to show that there is life in the music business outside of just listening to sounds”.

Having recently announced that they have teamed up with Norway’s DARK ESSENCE RECORDS to release a new full-length album, Sweden’s SHINING has today revealed the cover art by Michal Pawlowski (miszaa.tumblr.com).  To be titled “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd”, the album will be released in both CD and limited edition black or white 12” vinyl versions, with liner notes by Niklas Kvarforth, and is set to appear on the 23rd September.  All three versions are now available to pre-order at http://karismarecords.bigcartel.com/artist/shining

Whilst the use of the number 8 ½ may seem a little strange to denote what would effectively be a 9th full-length album from the band, its use is deliberate because “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd” is a rather special beast from SHINING, consisting as it does of six songs from the “Livets Ändhållplats” and “Angst” era in their original pre-production versions but with the addition of newly recorded bass and guitars, as well as Lars Fredrik Fröslie’s keyboards (ANGST SKVADRON, WOBBLER, ASMEGIN) which the band didn’t start using until their sixth album.

Additionally, the vocals on each of the tracks will be performed by six different vocalists, including Kvarforth, who have added their own interpretation and given a totally different dimension to all the songs.  It’s a project that the SHINING founder and frontman has wanted to do for many years now, and it is also serves as a kick in the teeth to all the bootleggers who have tried to illegally earn money for themselves off the back of the band’s hard work and creativity.

Dark Essence Records And NIKLAS KVARFORTH’s SHINING Get Together For Special Release

Patricia Thomas Management has issued that DARK ESSENCE RECORDS is set to release an album with different SHINING songs that hark back to an earlier era for the band.  Rather than simply re-issue the original tracks, SHINING has decided not only to re-record the songs, but re-record them using a number of different vocalists.  The album, which will be available in both CD and LP versions will be titled “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd” and is due to appear in September of this year.

Commenting on the idea behind the album, SHINING founder and frontman Niklas Kvarforth had this to say: “Some of you may remember that five years ago we revealed that we had plans to re-record our debut album and then have six different vocalists doing their own interpretations of the songs instead of merely having them singing on the already set paradigms.  You may also be aware that recently we have been working extremely hard to reclaim our birthright by releasing older bootlegs through our web-shop in an effort to put an end to this fucking bootlegging bullshit that has been infecting our aura for as long as we’ve been around. So we thought that since the new SHINING full-length album is still in the making now would be the right time to combine a bit of both those projects.

“8 ½ – Febedrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd” consist of six songs from the “Livets Ändhållplats” and “Angst” era in their original pre-production versions, with newly recorded bass and guitars on top and the malevolent brilliance of Lars Fredrik Fröslie’s keyboard magic, which sadly we didn’t start using until the sixth album.  Six vocalists whom we all find both inspiring and “otherworldly” have blessed the album with their madness, some of them even in their native languages.  At first, my initial thought was that it might turn out a bit too strange. But after hearing some of our classic songs in French, Hungarian and Norwegian I am certain the whole concept will please not only our loyal fan-base but even the contemptuous ones as well”.
