Dublin, Ireland-based Pagan metal legends PRIMORDIAL today unveil their Live In New York City full-length. Recorded earlier this year at Ridgewood, New York’s TV Eye, the stunning collection spans the band’s now legendary catalog with tracks from Spirit The Earth Aflame, The Gathering Wilderness, To The Nameless Dead, Redemption At The Puritan’s Hand, Exile Amongst The Ruins, and their most recent release, How It Ends.
Comments vocalist A.A. Nemtheanga, “Live In New York City, a title that sort of speaks for itself, something every band probably wants in their discography, right? Who knows, we may not be on this mortal coil for that much longer. When might some new music be on the horizon? Who can tell? But when we heard the results of this incredibly well mixed show which captured perfectly the passion, commitment, and fury of a special night – something that doesn’t happen often – we thought, ‘what the hell, let’s put it out there.’“
Watch PRIMORDIAL‘s video of “Victory Has 1000 Fathers, Defeat Is An Orphan” from the performance:
“Victory is traditional in the true meaning of the word, traditional metal in sound but also steeped in traditional Irish music at the same time. An epic rabble rouser, a warrior’s journey, death, sacrifice, and path to the otherworlds set in some distant Celtic past…“

Dublin, Ireland-based Pagan metal legends PRIMORDIAL today unveil their video for “Nothing New Under The Sun.” The track comes by way of the band’s acclaimed How It Ends full-length, released last Fall via Metal Blade Records.
Comments vocalist A. A. Nemtheanga, “We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, The Bhagavad-Gita; Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and, to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form and says, ‘Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.’ I suppose we all thought that, one way or another.”

How It Ends serves as the follow-up to 2018’s Exile Amongst The Ruins and finds PRIMORDIAL delivering more of their seminal blend of Celtic and black metal, with added urgency staring down the apocalypse. “The title is a question – ‘is this how it ends? How it all goes down: culture, language, history, society, humanity…’ – who knows?,” considers Nemtheanga. “Regardless of who you are or were, you get one chance at all of this, and it’s asking, ‘is this the end of your town, state, nation? Myths, traditions, relationships…?,’ and I suppose it asks the question, ‘who reacts, who rebels – how does it end now for them?‘”

Dublin, Ireland-based Pagan metal legends PRIMORDIAL have unleashed their moving new video for “How It Ends,” the title track of their tenth studio album, out today on Metal Blade Records!
Having lasted thirty-two years and now returning with their devastating new studio offering, the follow-up to 2018’s critically lauded Exile Amongst The Ruins finds PRIMORDIAL delivering more of their seminal blend of Celtic and black metal, with an extra added urgency, and staring down the apocalypse. “The title is a question – ‘is this how it ends? How it all goes down: culture, language, history, society, humanity…’ – who knows?,” considers vocalist A. A. Nemtheanga. “Regardless of who you are or were, you get one chance at all of this, and it’s asking, ‘is this the end of your town, state, nation? Myths, traditions, relationships…?,’ and I suppose it asks the question, ‘who reacts, who rebels – how does it end now for them?‘”
Working alongside founding members – bassist Pól MacAmlaigh and guitarist Ciáran MacUilliam – and longtime drummer Simon O’Laoghaire, the band started writing in earnest in the Fall of 2022, having lit a fire under themselves to work hastily and productively. The album was tracked at Hellfire Studios on the outskirts of Dublin, produced by the band and engineered by previous collaborator Chris Fielding.
“How It Ends is a very angry, defiant, visceral, and rebellious album,” notes Nemtheanga, “and as we worked, it all began to take more shape and form itself. It may be the note we go out on, but it will be a note of resistance, in musical terms. I think it’s also more metal, And more epic!” It only takes one listen for these claims to be proven true, whether it’s the surging, gruff, dark “Ploughs To Rust, Swords To Dust,” the moody, desperate “Pilgrimage To The World’s End,” or the sprawling “All Against All,” which is drenched in a sinister air and driven by pounding rhythms, wielding a towering climax, How It Ends is a truly thundering offering.
Drawing lyrical influence both from modern and historical ideas, Nemtheanga always gives the listener something to think about. The title track continues the themes that have always been a part of PRIMORDIAL, looking at “the life cycle of people, of nations, of languages, songs, myths and tradition. This song, as much of the album, asks the question, ‘do you have the stomach for the fight? The guts to stand against the crowd? To rebel, to dissent, to stand up to authoritarianism?’“

Dublin, Ireland-based Pagan metal icons PRIMORDIAL today unveil their new single, “Pilgrimage To The World’s End,” and its accompanying lyric video. The track comes by way of the band’s tenth studio album, How It Ends, set for release on September 29th via Metal Blade Records.
Having lasted thirty-two years and now returning with their devastating new studio offering, the Irish band has made it clear they are a primal force who consistently lay it all on the line. The follow-up to 2018’s critically lauded Exile Amongst The Ruins, How It Ends finds PRIMORDIAL delivering more of their seminal blend of Celtic and black metal, with an extra added urgency, and staring down the apocalypse. in a world cluttered with soundalike bands in just about every metal subgenre, PRIMORDIAL offers something real that cannot be denied. Says vocalist A. A. Nemtheanga. “It sounds stupid to say, but it’s not fantasy, not escapism. It’s not compromised and co-opted, it’s genuine, in a world where that seems to count for less and less.”
“The title is a question – ‘is this how it ends?’ How it all goes down: culture, language, history, society – humanity – who knows?,” continues Nemtheanga. “Regardless of who you are or were, you get one chance at all of this, and it’s asking is this the end of your town, state, nation? Myths, traditions, relationships, and I suppose it asks the question, who reacts, who rebels – how does it end now for them?“
Working alongside founding members – bassist Pól MacAmlaigh and guitarist Ciáran MacUilliam – and longtime drummer Simon O’Laoghaire, the band started writing in earnest in the Fall of 2022, having lit a fire under themselves to work hastily and productively. PRIMORDIAL never plans out a record beforehand, letting them come together naturally, though Nemtheanga knew he wanted something with a bigger, more open sound, and something more aggressive, which is exactly what they achieved.
Drawing lyrical influence both from modern and historical ideas, Nemtheanga always gives the listener something to think about, and How It Ends is no different. Latest single, the moody, desperate “Pilgrimage To The World’s End,” was inspired partly by the stories of poor Irish convicts, sent to the world’s end; figures like Ned Kelly who refused to accept the laws oppressing them and “who then rebelled and came to embody, through myth, resistance. This is an album of resistance,” notes Nemtheanga, “‘Pilgrimage To The World’s End’ started out being inspired by the travails of Irish people sent as convicts to Australia, but of course I folded that into a post ‘Coffin Ships’ narrative, poor people boarding boats to try and reach a new world to start over anew, how many went down the boats, endured sickness, death, never reached their destination. Then I began to really consider nthe plight of all people within that 19th century period who by famine, war, poverty tried to seek a new life; the oppressed and the downtrodden. So as PRIMORDIAL always has a historical echo that should resonate with the modern day, we see the same thing, poor people clinging to boats trying to seek a new life, always at the behest of a small economic elite who profit from their ruin. This is the song of the war and famine torn refugee from all countries and nations…“

If we have done anything new it’s really to work with more conviction than ever, and trust more than ever our instincts.“
Drawing lyrical influence both from modern and historical ideas, Nemtheanga always gives the listener something to think about. How It Ends is no exception. “If for example To The Nameless Dead (2007) was about the movement of borders, building of nations and those sent to war who gave their lives forming them, then this is the album more about resisting those empires, the freedom fighters, the outlaws, the people who made suicidal stands for freedom of speech, or independence – or for the most important word in the English language: liberty. It’s not hard to see why the album is inspired by this considering where we are right now in the world.”
In advance of the record’s release, today the band unleashes first single and album closer, “Victory Has 1000 Fathers, Defeat Is An Orphan,” and its accompanying video.

Ireland’s finest, PRIMORDIAL, start their “Heathen Crusade To Doomsday” tour and release Redemption at the Puritan’s Hand (Redux) to celebrate last year’s 10th anniversary of the album masterpiece. As a bonus, the album will be re-released digitally with additional demo versions of all album tracks.
Primordial vocalist A.A. Nemtheanga comments: “Redemption at the Puritan’s Hand is just over a decade old, the world seems very different now, who knows where we tread, we are about to set out on tour, the last one before doomsday? Who knows. Take a bite out of the apple while you can and see you down the front. As for the Redux? We found lurking in an old folder somewhere the pre mixed, pre-master versions of the album, not quite the demos for the album but somewhere in between, the sound is quite different, maybe warmer on some level, but there are different vocal patterns and takes, leads in different places, the flesh on the bones of the album without perhaps the skin! ‘Redemption’ was an important milestone in the band’s career, a difficult album to make, full of complications, illness, and conflict before we even mention almost being stranded in the Welsh valleys in the harshest of Winters up to our hips in snow! We ask you now to take a chunk of the flesh and have a bite and celebrate over a decade of ‘Redemption’ together with our long term co conspirators over at the great Metal Blade Records! See you on the other side“
