FOO FIGHTERS were joined by a surprise guest at their show at Summer Sonic Festival in Tokyo last night (20th August) reports planetrock.com.

Dave, Nate, Pat, Taylor, Chris and Rami were nearing the end of their Marine Stage headline set when they invited 80s chart conqueror Rick Astley on stage.

To huge cheers from the crowd, Dave said: “Ladies and gentlemen, would you please welcome our new best friend, Rick Astley… This is f—ing crazy. I just met him two minutes ago.”

Getting into the rock and roll spirit, Rick Astley then shouted: “Come on you mother—ers!”

Aptly Rickrolling the crowd, the band started playing the opening segments of Nirvana’s seminal anthem ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ before the track slowly morphed into Astley’s (in)famous song ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’.

Astley then proceeded to belt the 1987 number one track in its entirety with Foo Fighters providing the musical muscle.

When Astley reached the line “I just want to tell you how I’m feeling”, he shouted to the crowd: “I’m feeling f—ing marvellous!” Watch the performance here:

Since the occasion tonight, both Foo Fighters and Rick Astley have been sharing the love on social media.

First up, Rick shared a clip of the performance and called the it “one of the best nights of my life”, while Dave Grohl uploaded a selfie of himself and Rick Astley.

Huge fans of Rick Astley, back in August 2015, Foo Fighters Rickrolled fundamental Christian protestors from the Westboro Baptist Church when they held a demonstration outside a Foos gig in Kansas.

The band drove in on the back of a pick-up truck to the sounds of ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ while holding signs reading Keep it Clean and ‘You Got Rick Roll’d Again’ on Sunday.

The protestors, holding typically provocative signs, looked on stunned.
