Even though Mat Sinner is involved in many musical projects (just mentioning Primal Fear, the “Rock meets Classic” project and Voodoo Circle), he always finds the time to also release albums with his band SINNER. In 2013, “Touch Of Sin 2”, a collection of re-recorded SINNER classics from the 80’s (+ a few new songs) was following the 2011 album “One Bullet Left”.
Now it’s time again for an all new songs SINNER studio album: “Tequila Suicide” was produced by Mat Sinner and Dennis Ward. Expect a full dose of tracks in typical SINNER style, with a few surprises added here and there. One of these examples is the fine bluesy rock ballad “Sinner Blues”.
“Tequila Suicide” combines great songwriting with a mighty, organic sound. Numerous high class guest musicians (Gus G of Ozzy Osbourne & Firewind, Ricky Warwick (The Almighty, Thin Lizzy) and Pete Lincoln (Sailor, Sweet) were contributing to SINNER’s newest piece of work. The German hard’n’heavy legend is back!

A week ago, BLACK STAR RIDERS announced their third studio Album, “Heavy Fire”, set for release via Nuclear Blast Entertainment in February 2017. Today, the band has revealed the first video trailer in which frontman Ricky Warwick explains the writing process behind the about forthcoming album and looks forward to the band’s March 2017 UK tour:
When discussing the writing of “Heavy Fire”, Ricky comments: “Myself and Damon Johnson work really well together. We went to our manager’s house in Southern California – he was away for a week so Damon flew in from Nashville and I drove down from my place in LA and we hung out there for a week. I brought in a bunch of ideas and lyrics and Damon brought in some stuff too. By the end of the four or five days we had ten or twelve solid songs together, which was great. We work very quickly together because we’re always very well prepared and we’re always writing individually.”
Watch the lyric video for ‘When The Night Comes In’ here:
The band’s previous album, »The Killer Instinct«, was released in 2015 to widespread critical acclaim and went on to score multiple radio playlists. A solid year of worldwide touring culminated in December 2015 in an UK arena tour alongside DEF LEPPARD and WHITESNAKE, followed by more European shows with DEF LEPPARD.
2016 saw the band return to the studio with »The Killer Instinct«‘s producer Nick Raskulinecz(RUSH, THE FOO FIGHTERS, MASTODON), at his studio just outside Nashville. The resultant album is BLACK STAR RIDERS’ most accomplished work to date. From the immediate riffs of album opener ‘Heavy Fire’ to the instant hooks of first single ‘When The Night Comes In’, from the dirty bass groove of ‘Thinking About You Could Get Me Killed’ to the familiar and trademark dual guitars of Gorham and Johnson on ‘Testify Or Say Goodbye’, this is an album that will further cement BLACK STAR RIDERS’ reputation as one of the world premiere rock acts.
“Angst, passion, power, glory, love, truth, lies, loyalty, questions that begged to be answered. There’s a guitar army coming…and it’s bringing the ‘Heavy Fire’!” – Ricky Warwick (vocals)
“Not many new bands get to record three albums these days. Without doubt this is BSR’s best album so far. We had a great time recording it and can’t wait to play the new songs live on tour in March.” – Scott Gorham (guitars)
Following on from their critically acclaimed albums »All Hell Breaks Loose« and »The Killer Instinct« which have paved the way for BLACK STAR RIDERS to be recognized as a power force in the modern day of Rock n’ Roll, »Heavy Fire« will be once again released by Nuclear Blast Entertainment. The band have also brought in Pledgemusic, one of the most innovative and successful platforms of the modern music world, to give fans extra special product and experiences to go along with the album’s release.

RICKY WARWICK‘s new double album, »When Patsy Cline Was Crazy (And Guy Mitchell Sang The Blues)« / »Hearts On Trees«, was released in February of this year. Today, RICKY returns with the official video for ‘When Patsy Cline Was Crazy (And Guy Mitchell Sang The Blues)’ premiering exclusively with Classic Rock, at this location.
RICKY comments: “This song sums up my childhood…and I’m sure a lot of people out there can relate to the sentiment behind it.”
Sam Robinson, who wrote the lyrics to the song adds: “My world of music was far detached from that of my peers. My father’s tastes outflanked both THE BEATLES and THE STONES. When I dropped the needle on CONNIE FRANCIS, THE EVERLY BROTHERS, JOHNNY RAY, SINATRA, SPRINGFIELD, GUY MITCHELL and of course PATSY CLINE crackled and sparkled from the old beaten up record player that was one of their most prized possessions. Recovering from illness in his late forties both he and I would cycle to Island Hill, talking and laughing as we went. Those times brought us so close together I can remember them as if it were yesterday. On the morning I sat there (four decades later) thinking of him when spontaneously ‘Crazy’ came on to the car radio I found myself writing this song almost instantly on the back of an envelope. Showing it to Ricky and seeing his reaction I knew that these were his Saturday nights too. Ricky’s dad sadly passed away this year, so the words, the emotions and the memories that this song evokes I in turn dedicate to my mate, because I know that just like him if I could have just one more night, I know that I’d still choose ‘When Patsy Cline Was Crazy (And Guy Mitchell Sang The Blues)’.”
RICKY WARWICK‘s new double album, “When Patsy Cline Was Crazy (And Guy Mitchell Sang The Blues)” and “Hearts On Trees”, was released in February of this year. Today, RICKY returns with the official video for ‘Schwaben Redoubt’ premiering exclusively with War History Online.
RICKY comments: “This is a song about a friendship found between two teenage lads from Ireland in a trench in Northern France on the morning of the 1st July 1916… a hundred years ago this year. One from the North one from the South who would on any other day hate each other’s guts but today all they have is each other, a shared fear of death and a shared name… ‘Schwaben Redoubt’ was the name of the German position they walked towards that morning… and into death.”
Sam Robinson, who wrote the lyrics to the song adds: “It isn’t lost on RICKY nor I that as the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme approaches once again thousands of Irishmen, Northern and Southern have returned to France this month, their purpose goodwill, laughter and bon homie. Times like these only exist through the sacrifice made by men like Liam Kelly and Billy Drennan who fell side by side on the ‘Schwaben Redoubt’ on the morning of the 1st July 1916. Regardless of our differences, sometimes there is a greater evil with which to do battle. ‘Schwaben Redoubt’ was simply written song with a deeper message and meaning. To have the front men of two of Ireland’s greatest bands STIFF LITTLE FINGERS and THIN LIZZY step up to the mic and tell the tale is for me simply mind-blowing.”
With guest vocals by Jake Burns (STIFF LITTLE FINGERS) the song, as the 100th anniversary of the battle approaches, is a tribute to the young men of Ireland North and South, Catholic and Protestant who gave their lives in what was to ironically to be labelled the war to end all wars. The video’s inclusion of war-time images only adds to the poignancy of this fateful point in history during the summer of 1916 in Northern France.

BLACK STAR RIDERS frontman Ricky Warwick is set to release his two solo albums, “When Patsy Cline Was Crazy (And Guy Mitchell Sang The Blues)” and “Hearts On Trees”, as a double CD on 26th February 2016 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. With the release just a few weeks away, we’re premiering the next single from the electric album over on Planet Rock Radio‘s website. Listen to the catchy anthem ‘Celebrating Sinking’, here.
Ricky commented on the track: “Andy Cairns from THERAPY? has been one of my closest friends for many years and we have shared some great adventures. We are also both Belfast lads. We had been planning to write a song together for years and this album was the catalyst for that. Andy sent me the title and the chorus and I built the rest of the song around. ‘Celebrating Sinking’ is about keeping your feet on the ground and not forgetting your roots!”
The forthcoming release boasts an array of acclaimed musicians with guests including; Joe Elliot (DEF LEPPARD), Damon Johnson (THIN LIZZY/BLACK STAR RIDERS), Andy Cairns (THERAPY?), Billy Morrison (BILLY IDOL), Nathan Connolly (SNOW PATROL), Ginger Wildheart, Jake Burns (STIFF LITTLE FINGERS), Richard Fortus (GUNS ‘N ROSES/THE DEAD DAISIES) and Mark Thwaite (THE MISSION, PETER MURPHY).
Listen to the title track off the electric album, ‘When Patsy Cline Was Crazy (And Guy Mitchell Sang The Blues)’, below:
The artwork for the double albums reflects the tone of each – “When Patsy Cline Was Crazy…” showcases the electric rock and roll side of Ricky, whilst “Hearts On Trees” veers more towards tender stripped-back songwriting, influenced by both Americana and, more importantly, Ricky‘s Northern Irish roots.
Ricky explains: “»Hearts On Trees« and »When Patsy Cline Was Crazy (And Guy Mitchell Sang The Blues)« were written by myself and my good friend Sam Robinson, both albums depict our experiences of growing up and coming from the Greater East Belfast area, not only experiences that have happened to us but historical references and stories that have been told to us by friends and family… in saying that both albums translate those experiences on to a global scale that hopefully anyone geographically can relate to.”
