DRAGONFORCE will release “Maximum Overload” in the US on August 19th via Metal Blade Records. “Maximum Overload” is available for pre-order at metalblade.com/dragonforce, in CD, digital, and limited edition vinyl formats! While there, be sure to check out the band’s new video for the song “The Game“.
The album also features an all time first for DRAGONFORCE…a cover song! Guitarist Sam Totman explained: “Just before the last Australian tour, our manager suggested it might be interesting to do a cover for the next album, something we’ve always refused even to consider. Because we had all had a couple beers every band member wrote down 3 songs each and we compared them all, just for a laugh. I wrote down ‘Ring Of Fire’ by Johnny Cash, an idea which the rest of the band loved, so we’ve DRAGONFORCE-ized it“!
Today The A.V. Club is hosting an exclusive premiere of DragonForce‘s take on “Ring of Fire“. Check it out HERE.
The second single from “Maximum Overload“, “Defenders” is streaming HERE.
Produced by Jens Bogren at Fascination Studios in Örebro and Varberg, Sweden, the new opus will be the band’s first ever album involving an outside producer, having historically opted to record themselves in association with Karl Groom.
“Working with Jens gave us a different perspective on the songs and a different sound dynamic. We always previously recorded in our own studios but recording in Sweden made us focus and maybe drove us harder, Jens certainly did, he doesn’t believe in days off!” said guitar maestro Herman Li.
“Maximum Overload” features a couple of surprises, notably a guest appearance on some of the songs from Trivium’s Matt Heafy. “We’ve always gotten on really well with the Trivium guys and it was great when Matt had a couple of days to spare and agreed to weigh in on some of the songs!” added bassist Frederic Leclercq.
DRAGONFORCE is:
Marc Hudson – Lead vocals
Herman Li – Guitar, backing vocals
Sam Totman – Guitar, backing vocals
Frédéric Leclercq – Bass, backing vocals
Vadim Pruzhanov – Keyboards, backing vocals
Gee Anzalone – Drums, backing vocals
Rich Davenport’s Rock Show this week features the exclusive interviews with PRIMAL FEAR, RING OF FIRE and RUTS DC. Stream them HERE.
Mat Sinner of PRIMAL FEAR talks about the band’s new album “Delivering the Black”, which looks set to repeat the worldwide chart success of its predecessor, “Unbreakable”. Mat also selects two songs from the new release.
Mark Boals discusses “Battle of Leningrad”, the new album from RING OF FIRE, his band with shredmaster Tony Macalpine and keyboard virtuoso Vitalij Kuprij, with tracks from the record.
Plus a special Phil Lynott tribute, with Ruts/RUTS DC bassist and vocalist Seggs Jennings, who shares a wealth of stories about seeing Phil perform with Thin Lizzy as a fan, and then later meeting Lynott, who helped and befriended the band in the early days of their career, initially writing the song “Fanatical Fascists” for the Ruts. The song was later recorded by Phil and Gary Moore, for Moore’s “Back On The Streets” album, and this version of the track is played on the show, along with Seggs’ choice of Thin Lizzy and Ruts classics.
The interviews are available now for streaming at this link.

According to Frontiers Records, Virtuoso Supergroup RING OF FIRE return with a brand new album “Battle of Leningrad” out on Frontiers in January 2014 !
Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the return of Neoclassic Power Metal Super Group RING OF FIRE with the release of the band’s brand new album “Battle of Leningrad” on January 24th in Europe and January 28th in North America.
RING OF FIRE is a band comprised of some incredible musicians including former Yngwie Malmsteen and Royal Hunt singer Mark Boals, classically-trained Artension keyboardist Vitalij Kuprij and none other than Tony MacAlpine on guitars.
Combining Melodic metal songs with fantasy-based lyrics, topped off with virtuoso performances from the line-up, the resulting RING OF FIRE albums proved to be exactly what many neoclassical-metal fans had waited for, creating a solid fan base for the band all over the world.
“Battle of Leningrad” is the band’s fourth studio album, coming after a 9 years hiatus – a period which has seen the band members getting involved in other projects, most notably with singer Mark Boals becoming singer for Royal Hunt and Kuprij and MacAlpine touring with Trans Siberian Orchestra and Steve Vai respectively.
RING OF FIRE reconvened with Boals, MacAlpine and Kuprij during 2012, when they agreed to work on their unfinished business and develop a new album from the true story of the siege of Leningrad during the WWII.
Mark Boals explains: “It is a true story of the strength and resilience of the Russian people throughout history and particularly in this instance of 900 days of being surrounded on all sides with no food and no hope of rescue, under siege of the Nazi army. The magnificent city of Leningrad with millions of people trapped, found a way to withstand the daily attacks of rockets and bombs, the lack of food, water, and fuel for heat. Although more than 1 million starved to death, most survived, and the Nazis were never able to overtake the city completely. They were finally forced to retreat by the Russian army. Not widely known by most, this was an amazing story and one of World War II’s finest examples of heroism in the worst circumstances imaginable”.
Musically the album is all the fans have been waiting for. True “Neoclassic” Power Metal with technical and exciting musical passages which promise to reignite the RING OF FIRE flame among the fans!
Former Stratovarius, Timo Tolkki played bass and mixed the album to perfection, while the other finnish musician Jami Huovinen (Sentiment) played drums on the album.
“Battle of Leningrad” will include the following songs :
Mother Russia; They’re Calling Your Name; Empire; Land Of Frozen Tears; Firewind; Where Angels Play; Battle Of Leningrad; No Way Out; Our World; Rain.
Samples of the songs can be enjoyed via this link:
