Geeksofdoom.com conducted an interview with ANVIL‘s drummer, Robb Reiner on April 11th 2013. When he was asked if he knew Sal Italiano before he joined the band, Robb explained he had known him for years, since 1982. Then he referred to Glenn Five ‘s departure from the band, by saying the following:
“There was no real transition; we had cancer surgery and we were saved.
Within the band nothing changed for Lips and myself. All that changed was the personnel and the sound, but it was uneventful actually for us, it was in and out.”
ANVIL ‘s ex-bass palyer Glenn Five has just reacted to Robb‘s statement, via his personal Facebook page.
“When Mr. Reiner insults me I take it as a compliment. I spent a decade and a half with him, and I know that when he insults or lashes out at someone it’s only because he feels inferior to them and/or he has been called out on his arrogance or stupidity…insecurity makes your best defence become an offence!” said Glenn. “What Mr. Reiner doesn’t realize is that he isn’t insulting me, he is insulting the thousands of fans, hundreds of peers, and dozens of close friends of Anvil who over the years have told me, or wrote to me, that they love(d) my musicianship and contribution to the band. And that since I left, it just isn’t the same. It may not have been a big deal to replace me, there are lots of great bass players out there. And I’m sure Sal is one of them and I wish him all the best. But to say that my tenure in the band was ‘in and out’ is an insult to Anvil and their fans!! 15 years is ‘in and out’?? By saying that, he is discounting the 7 Anvil albums I co-wrote (which he also doesn’t recognize) and recorded with them, and also discounting all the amazing Anvil fans that followed us for all those years and voiced the exact opposite to what he says about me… And saying my departing was like the band had ‘cancer surgery’ just shows me how juvenile and idiotic he really is… I LEFT!! I WASN’T REMOVED!!”
Glenn continued with the following:
“I have no regrets staying in Anvil for so long, but every day I thank my lucky stars that I left, and I don’t have to spend another minute with people who never appreciated my contribution. For the whole time I was in the band I received admiration and respect from everyone around me, except the two people I was doing it with!”
