RUST2DUST is a Slovakian band founded in September 2009 by former members of well-known band RUMBURAX (now disbanded). Guitarists Martin ‘Semish’ Semjan (Candy Core, Rumburax) and Martin ‘Ondro’ Ondrejička (Core F.S., Rumburax) joined creative forces to form this new band. The lineup was completed by bassist Richard ‘Richie’ Potzner (Core F.S., Rumburax), drummer Marek Matejov (Canis Lupus, Rumburax) and young talented singer Tomáš ‘Bujón’ Buroň (Arva). RUST2DUST’s music is a mix of old school metal with some elements of crossover, Metalcore and Nu-Metal. They are an experienced live band and their energetic and spontaneous shows will convince even the most demanding fans. In 2009 they recorded their debut EP ‘Dopamine’ with guest solo recorded by famous Slovak guitarist Jimi Cimbala in 999th studio (free download: http://www.rust2dust.sk/Media), Then in 2012 they made history by becoming the first band from Slovakia to play at Wacken festival (as winners of Wacken Metal Battle 2012 competition). Then in 2013 they signed to Metalbox Recordings for the official release of “Daymare.”
The first song on the album is an introduction, which is quite mellow – including many different elements to give it a calming effect before the storm. Then it goes straight into the second song ‘Stay Awake’ which takes me back a bit with the solid power of the first chords struck and gets my feet tapping straight away. The vocals on the track go between clean and harsh, which blend very well together with the guitars. The overall song is perfect to start the album off.
The third and fourth songs are ‘Lost’ and ‘Hate’; the tempo on these two songs keep up the blistering pace of the album, nothing short of brilliance. The vocals have a healthy change of clean and harsh work that keeps the songs well balanced. The fifth song is ‘Devil’s Whore’, which keeps up with cracking guitar work and the interchange of the vocals from clean and harsh are quality for me you can hear elements of different bands when listening, for example hints of PEARL JAM and PANTERA.
The sixth and seventh songs are the title track ‘Daymare’ and then ‘Crime’. ‘Daymare’ starts off slow which makes a nice change in the middle of the album. It gets a bit heavier during the song but nothing like the other songs on the album and it fits perfectly with what they have done so far. ‘Crime’ starts off with some clicking fingers and a good solid riff on the guitars, which bursts into life with the quality vocals and riffs that are present throughout the album so far. The eighth song on the album is ‘Dopamine’, which begins with a slow clean guitar riff and carries on with vocals coming over the top, then breaks into a heavier riff. The vocals blend perfectly together and the song continues to go change pace throughout – a very good song which I could listen to everyday.
The ninth and tenth songs are ‘Losing Everything’ and ‘Kral’ Skazy’. ‘Losing Everything’ is a quality song with some excellent riffs and good solid vocals, well worth listening to in my opinion. ‘Kral’ Skazy’ is sung in Slovakian but that does not matter in the least if the vocals cannot be understood; the power of the song with its riffs and strong vocals make it a very strong part of the album. The last song the album is ‘Rieka’ also sung in Slovakian, but what a great song to end the album – good strong vocals and quality guitar riffs, just what you need to finish an album off.
Overall – A quality album where influences from other bands can be heard, it has good strong lyrics and vocals throughout and the guitar work is excellent. A must buy for those into the Metalcore/ Nu-Metal scene, if you have never heard of RUST2DUST check them out you will not be disappointed with what you hear.
