Swedish extreme metallers SHINING have announced the addition of two new touring members — Euge Valovirta on guitar and Rainer Tuomikanto on drums.
Some of you might have already spotted Euge on SHINING‘s previous gigs in Germany and Finland. Not only is he known to be one of the greatest guitarists in Finland, but, along with Peter Huss, he is also one of the most versatile players SHINING‘s live touring has ever witnessed.
Rainer is mostly known of his innovative approach to drumming; combining elements of bombastic groove, hard-hitting solid beats and lightning-fast execution to unbelievably energetic live performances.
Rainer will make his live debut with SHINING on Friday, June 15 at the Metaltown festival in Gothenburg, Sweden. Source: Blabbermouth.net

Niklas Kvarforth’s SHINING has debuted a track from the recently announced EP “Lots of Girls Gonna Get Hurt” which contains cover songs from KATATONIA, KENT, IMPERIET and POETS OF THE FALL. The debut song from the four-track EP is KATATONIA’s “For My Demons” from the album “Tonight’s Decision”. The track can be heard below.
According to a recent statement by SHINING founder and frontman Niklas Kvarforth “Lots of Girls Gonna Get Hurt”, which is due for release on Spinefarm Records on the 16th May, is definitely not a change of direction for the band. It was recorded at the same time as the band’s as yet untitled eighth album, and represents some of the artists and music that SHINING’s members like and listen to. The fact that some SHINING followers will be ill at ease with the material is, according to the band, irrelevant.
In other news, SHINING has also recently opened its own Web Shop because of the difficulty fans were having getting hold of Official band merchandise. Apart from regular items, the shop, called Shining Legions, will stock exclusive merchandise which will not be available anywhere else. Shining Legions can be found on the band’s new website at http://www.shininglegions.com
More information about SHINING can be found on the band’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/shiningofficial.

Sweden’s SHINING is set to release an EP of cover songs with a choice of material that will come as a surprise to many of the band’s fans. The four-track EP, titled “Lots of Girls Gonna Get Hurt”, includes tracks from KATATONIA, KENT, IMPERIET and POETS OF THE FALL, and is due for release on Spinefarm Records on the 16th of May. Whilst KATATONIA is an internationally recognised name, KENT and Thåström’s IMPERIET are relatively unknown outside of Sweden, where they are two of the country’s biggest names, and POETS OF THE FALL is a Finnish band with a substantial following in their own country. Cover art is by Pauline Greefhorst.
Commenting on the decision to release an EP of covers, as well as on the choice of material, SHINING’s front man and founder Niklas Kvarforth had this to say: “In no way should this EP be seen as a new direction for SHINING, and it is absolutely no indication of what you can expect from our upcoming eighth album. Like most musicians neither myself, nor the rest of the band, restrict ourselves to listening to only one genre of music. We all have eclectic tastes, and finding ourselves with some spare time in the studio, we recorded a total of six covers, and decided to release four of them. This EP simply represents some of the artists and music that we like. We know that those fans of SHINING who limit themselves to a narrow musical spectrum will hate the album, but that really is of no concern to us”.
SHINING’s eighth, as yet untitled, full-length album will be released in autumn of this year. More information about SHINING can be found on the band’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/shiningofficial

SO MUCH FOR NOTHING, the band formed in 2007 by SARKOM front man Erik Unsgaard, has previewed a second track from the forthcoming album “Livsgnist”, which is set for release on the 16th January on MY KINGDOM MUSIC in both CD and LP version. The track, titled “Suffer in Silence”, sees several guest artists joining the band’s two-man line up, with SHINING’s Niklas Kvarforth providing additional lyrics and vocals, PANTHEON I’s Live Julianne Kostøl on the cello, TROLLFEST’s Martin Storm-Olsen on acoustic guitar, and Ingvild Sareeta Kaare, formerly of RAM-ZET on violin. “Suffer in Silence” can be heard on the band’s MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/somuchfornothing.
Aside from Unsgaard himself on guitars and vocals, the nucleus of the band includes URGEHAL drummer Uruz who joined the band in 2009 when, having written eight songs, Unsgaard realised that he was ready to take the first steps to expand the band from what was initially a solo project. Drawing inspiration from the general decadence that has seeped into society over the years, SO MUCH FOR NOTHING’S sound is a mix of brooding black metal and dark melodies, which together perfectly creates the decadent atmosphere that Unsgaard seeks to express through his music.
With his experience as a musician on the Norwegian Black and Extreme Metal scenes, Unsgaard has been able to draw on an abundance of guests from the Scandinavian metal scene to appear on “Livsgnist”. Apart from the ones previously mentioned, other guests include SHINING guitarist Peter Huss, TROLLFEST’s Dag Stiberg and Eirik Renton, URGEHAL’s Trondr Nefas, PANTHEON I’s “Aethyris” McKay (ex-ABSU) and Seidemann (1349) and pianist Kyrre Olavsrud
“Livsgnist” is SO MUCH FOR NOTHING’s first full length album, having previously released “Sublife Warranty”, a 7” split with ANGST SQVADRON, on Folter Records. A listening session for “Livsgnist” is scheduled for the 14th September at Unholy in Oslo. Full track listing for the album as follows:
1) Suicide-Syndrome
2) One Last Night
3) Perfect
4) Suffer in Silence
5) My Precious
6) Livsgnist
7) New Life – New Beginning
