Here I am, describing with huge pleasure, a night of pure doom metal for the greatest metal website in the metal world: METAL SHOCK FINLAND! It was February 21st that I left my city, Torino, heading to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Arena in Romagnano Sesia, Novara, Italy, to go and see one of the most important Celtic Metal bands of all time: PRIMORDIAL.
As the opening acts I found three Italian bands, the first one was SHORES OF NULL, a melodic doom metal band, fresh from the new deal with Candlelight Records, which will see them release a new album titled “Quiescence” next spring. On stage there were former members of several Italian known and unknown bands, all joined together on stage to give life to this doom project, perfectly in line with the situation. SHORES OF NULL were flawless on stage, a great opening act for this event.

Lunarsea
Then it’s the turn of the Romans LUNARSEA, and it’s here where the atmosphere grows and the crowd, even if poor in numbers, starts warming to the rhythm of their notes. Giuseppe Di Giorgio’s (Eyeconoclast) stage performance was awesome, in my opinion LUNARSEA is one of the usual Italian underrated bands that definitely deserves a higher place in the international metal scene. Lunarsea ‘s latest album “Hundred Light Years”, released in May 2013 via Punishment 18, deserves to be listened to carefully!

Cadaveria
And then we go to the third band of the night, CADAVERIA. As I’m a drummer my eyes fall on the face of Flegias, the singer of NECRODEATH, who I see with pleasure behind the drumheads to keep the easy beat of their black doom songs. The performance of CADAVERIA is simply amazing, continuous vocal register changes creating a mix of violence, hysteria, sensuality and sweetness.

Primordial
When the last opening act had finished, the line-check of the main band PRIMORDIAL starts, and at the end of it the 5 Irish musicians come on stage delighting us with a performance full of passion and warmth, despite the cold given off by their dark riffs. I found Nemtheanga powerful and especially careful and precise on stage, visibly involved and attentive towards his crowd, unfortunately still scarce in numbers,so much that sometimes he sent a sign of affection to some of his “die hard fans” for example he tried to say “thanks for being here guys”. They played an amazing set of more than 90 minutes, tons of great hits like The Coffin Ships and Death Of The Gods, playing with their usual aggression and emphasis.
When the concert was finished, I jumped in the car and went back home … and thoughtfully considered that this evening was the demonstration that the happiness for a band is continually being supported by their fans, even if that night they were reduced in number ….. “few but good “as they say.
