Symphonic metallers SINHERESY have released a video message announcing their Spanish dates with DARK MOOR. Check it out below:
The dates as follows:
21 FEB 2014 BARCELONA, SPAIN Sala Boveda
22 FEB 2014 MADRID, SPAIN Sala Penelope
Formed in 2009 and inspired by Power Metal bands such as Nightwish, Kamelot and Edenbridge, SINHERESY soon developed their unique blend of Metal by adding a wider range of influences going from the Dark sound of Sirenia and Within Temptation to the Power/Progressive approach of Symphony X and Children Of Bodom.
Their first EP ‘The Spiders And The Butterfly’ attracted very positive reactions from fans and critics alike and it was followed by the videoclip for the song ‘Temptation Flame’ and an increasing number of live shows.
After having signed a record deal with Bakerteam Records, SINHERESY have released their debut album ‘Paint The World’, recorded between Fear Studios and Studio 73 (Ephel Duat, Extrema) in Ravenna, Italy and displaying the “cinematographic” side of their music like never before. ‘Paint The World’ was mixed and mastered at Fascination Street Studios in Varberg, Sweden, by Johan Örnborg and Jens Bogren (Soilwork, Amon Amarth, Opeth, Paradise Lost). Following the release and Metal Shock Finland’s review of SINHERESY’s “The Spiders and the Butterfly EP” I caught up with the band to discuss the future and what makes this symphonic metal band ‘Tick’.
Hello and welcome to Metal Shock Finland, I’m Dylan Raine, please introduce yourselves and your roles in the band.
Hello and thanks for this interview! We are SinHeresY, symphonic heavy-metal band coming from Trieste, Italy. We are Stefano and Cecilia (vocalists), Lorenzo (guitar), Davide (bass guitar), Alex (drums) and Daniele (keyboards).
Can you tell me about your influences as a vocalist (Petrini / Sain) and when you started singing? Stefano and I have a common passion for System of a Down! We love the vocal “strapworks” they use in their songs. Then of course there are other bands and singers that influenced us, for example for me Freddie Mercury is a myth above all. Stefano started singing in the old Lorenzo’s power band, called Astranimae, and I joined them a bit of time later.
What is it about the symphonic style that made (you as a band) chose to follow this path?
Symphonic metal is the meeting point of our individual musical tastes, so it was quite natural to start composing songs with this style. Anyway we don’t like to force ourselves in a precise path, we simply like to use every musical mean to give every song its right atmosphere.
Following your first EP “The Spiders and the Butterfly” have you got any further albums in the making?
Yes, we are working right now on new songs… We promise they’ll amaze you!
Who are your main influences as a band and individually?
We don’t have a collective source of inspiration, everyone of us has his own particular preferences: as I state before, Stefano and I love System of a Down, Lorenzo and Daniele prefer prog-power bands such as Children of Bodom and Symphony X, Davide loves gothic bands and Alex likes every band that hammers such as Trivium or Rammstein.
Do you have any plans to tour?
Yes, we are planning some gigs for the beginning of 2013… but they are still in definition phase so I won’t spoiler anything now.
Can you give me an equipment list, amps, pedals, synths, software used etc…?
Here’s the complete list: Lorenzo uses head Engl Powerball, cabinet 4×12 Engl and guitar ESP M-2. Davide uses head Ampeg svt3 pro, cabinet Ampeg classic svt-4410he, bass Music-man stingray5, compressor dbx 166 xl and strings rotosound. Alex uses D-Drum Black Sparkle, cymbals Zildjan, stands Yamaha, Tama and sticks Vic Firth 2B. Daniele uses Yamaha MO6 and Korg X50. Stefano and I use microphone Sennheiser e935 and microphone Shure Beta 58.
Which orchestra and choirs were used throughout the EP?
It could be surprising but in the EP we used only the orchestral effects of our keyboards and, for the choirs, a freeware plugin called Magnus Choirs.
The track “Forever us” is without any doubt beautiful, can you tell me more about the story behind it and the influences?
There’s a curious episode behind this song: one day during rehearsals Lorenzo proposed a beautiful power guitar riff, but we weren’t able to develop it well for a song. But that riff remained obsessive in my mind! So I stayed awake all night on my keyboard ‘til I played it right and the day after, when we met for rehearsals, I proposed again that riff slowed down with slightly different chords… and the refrain of “Forever Us” was born. Starting from there, the creation of the whole ballad was quite easy, for the delicate sound of the piano brought us by instinct towards a sweet and melancholy atmosphere and lyrics.
Who is responsible for writing the orchestral scores in the band? And where has the knowledge come from (meaning, do they play any orchestral instruments)?
The orchestral scores were written by our bassist Davide. He studied music when he was a kid, in particular piano and clarinet; all his other skills are depending on experience and on the fact that he listens with “critical ear” to all the top bands of the genre, such us Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation…

Italian band Sinheresy are a symphonic heavy metal band founded in 2009 and characterized by the use of female vocals and male clean vocals performed by Cecilia Predrini and Stefano Sain. Their music is described as symphonic metal although some material can be simply considered heavy oriented. Their debut EP “The Spiders and the Butterfly”, was recorded at the famous Ravenna’s Studio 73, and is a pure gothic metal release: the patterns of the genre are mixed and meshed up with symphonic, progressive and power elements. The EP was released fall Dec 2011 by the Italian label Revalve Records and it’s currently promoted in Europe by the label in common with K2Agency.
In short from the very beginning we are thrown head first into a wonderful array of melodically textured intros before the rich vocal beauty of Cecilia Petrini comes in with her operatic voice and really expands the musical properties of this track. Combining the gentle Piano’s, Synths, heavy drumming, powerful guitars and the most enlightening solos “Temptation Flame” is really a great opening track to what sounds like it’s going to be an exceptional album.
Jumping straight into the titled track “The spiders and the butterfly” we are introduced to arpeggiated sythns and the powerful mix between Stefano Sain and Cecilia Petrini controlling the vocals and really giving this us depths not often heard. Into the rich solos and well crafted effects “The spiders and the butterfly” gives the listener an interesting look into a cross between Nightwish (Tarja Turunen) and Within Temptation whilst remaining positively unique throughout. As we leave the track it slows down to just Petrini and Pasutto keeping melody before super intense soloing comes in to tear you a new one with a combo of sweep arpeggios and power phrasing. Back into the song for a final blast and all the instruments come back to give you another belting!
“Merciless game” opens with a groovy introduction giving your body and mind something to cling on to before Sain opens up and gives the listener an alternative array of gripping sensations to hold you tight before the beautiful characteristics of Petrini come back in for another blast of spine tingling goodness. The music is high action, fast paced, driving throughout yet keeping the listener hooked throughout.
Slowing down the pace a little we are given the beauty that is “Forever us” with Petrini singing in a highly welcomed tone above the most wonderful played pianos from Girardelli which takes you away from everything you could ever expect. As the song moves forward Sain comes in and adds to the richness of all the textures throughout simply expanding this magnificent track a little further. If we think it couldn’t get any better than this, you’d be mistaken as the solos come in to expand the harmonies beyond anything my mind was expecting to hear.
Leaving with “When darkness falls”, and the haunting melody driven Gothic based atmospheric synths demanding attention from the very start; this is enough to hold you fixed to your seat before the explosion of metal comes out of the floor to blow your head off! Throwing vocal mixes between Petrini and Sain whilst the music demands its own respect this ending song is brilliant from start to finish. There isn’t a moment where you think it’s is going on too long, actually quite the opposite, it leaves you with the “I want more” feeling.
If you enjoy the best parts of Nightwish, Epica, and Within Temptation, then Sinheresy’s “Spiders and the Butterfly” EP is really going to interest you.
