Fan-filmed video footage of SLAYER‘s June 6 performance at Zimní stadion Sareza in Ostrava, Czech Republic can be seen below.
In a recent interview with MTV‘s “Alternative Nation”, SLAYER guitarist Kerry King stated aboutfellow SLAYER axeman Jeff Hanneman‘s current state of health (Jeff in January 2011 contracted necrotizing fasciitis, likely caused by a spider bite, and has been undergoing surgeries, skin
grafts and intense rehab since), King said, “Jeff is… If you look at him, he looks fine. But playing the intricate things that we do, he’s not ready to do that. He doesn’t know if he has the stamina for an hour-and-fifteen-minute set. He can play any of the slower stuff and do it just like the record. But we made a name for ourselves, historically, for being good live, so we had to make the decision and say, ‘You’ve gotta get better before you try to come back. If you come back, make it a special thing, not just an adequate thing.'”
King also spoke about SLAYER‘s rumored plans to release a two-song EP this summer, possibly to coincide with the band’s appearance at the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. “[The two new SLAYER tracks] are done, but they’re just not mixed,” he said. “It’s [like], do you put them out now or do you just wait for the [full-length] record to be done [and include them as part of the final package]? We’re gona finish the record September-October. So I, myself, would rather wait, because I don’t like to put those two songs out and then include them on the record. In my thinking, if you put those two songs out, then make ten more songs and put those two on that album just as an afterthought. But I feel like I’ve gotta give people ten new songs. That’s why on the last one [2009’s ‘World Painted Blood’] we did 11, ’cause ‘Psychopathy Red’ was already out. So [the two new songs are] done. We’ll see what the record company proposes. I think they’ve been talking about an EP, which is kind of a throwback to the ’80s, which is really cool, I think. But we’ll just have to see.”
SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo previously stated about the band’s new material, “[It sounds like] SLAYER. . . Traditional fans will be pacified and non-traditional fans will be like, ‘Again?'”
Speaking to U.K.’s Metal Hammer magazine, Kerry described the new SLAYER songs as “really refreshing and energetic.” He added, “One thing I can tell you is that the songs are shaping up in the classic SLAYER style. You won’t be hearing us doing acoustic stuff. [laughs]”
EXODUS guitarist Gary Holt is filling in for Hanneman on SLAYER‘s summer tour, which kicked off last month at All Tomorrow’s Parties in England.
SLAYER‘s latest album, “World Painted Blood”, sold 41,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 12 on The Billboard 200 chart.

To coincide with their Reign In Blood Red Cabernet Sauvignon, thrash legends SLAYER have released a grill apron and a coffin box to kick-up the ultimate barbecue experience!

A press release reads as follows:
Whip up the barbecue atmosphere with a coffin for the red wine and a bloodstained grill apron. Slayer are now launching a fitting outfit for their red wine Reign In Blood Red.
With its dark fruitiness and spicy hints of barrels, Slayer Reign In Blood Red is a must for all the summer’s grilled dishes and BBQs. To complement the wine, you can now buy a gift box in the form of a coffin and a grill apron with that true thrash metal feeling – perfect when the flames reach high into the sky from a grill with juicy steaks.
Slayer’s agent Beverages Per Minute commissioned Brands For Fans to launch Reign In Blood Red from Slayer – the band that defined the thrash metal genre.
Slayer Reign In Blood Red must have a packaging that does it justice. The label is the cockiest in the wine world and the coffin and apron adds a further dimension to the wine and the thrash metal that Slayer stands for. The ultimate giveaway, says Sari H Wilholm at Brands For Fans.

The wine, a Cabernet Sauvignon from California, is as uncomprimising and tough as the band. After a couple of Seasons in the Abyss, the wine has an undisputed attitude and a soft nose of dark berry fruits with oak and spicy nuances. Good mouth feel with hints of fresh fruit and juicy, smooth tannins. Well structured and rounded with subtle notes of oak, showing true Divine Intervention. Enjoy it while headbanging, riffing or with food, friends and great music. Reign in Wine!

Panagiotis Karagiannidis from Metal Paths spoke with SLAYER drum legend Dave Lombardo recently about a number of topics including his new PHILM project. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
Metal Paths: That was the first question I wanted to ask you, about Jeff’s (Hanneman) health and how is it going with Gary Holt (EXODUS)…
Lombardo: “Gary is an amazing guitar player. We love Gary and we really appreciate all of the help he has given us while Jeff is getting better.”
Metal Paths: When exactly do you think that Jeff is gonna be back?
Lombardo: “I really don’t know. Nobody knows… Until he feels better and the doctor says ‘go’…”
Metal Paths: That’s the most important, the fact that he feels better. So how has been touring with Big 4 so far? Is there any special story you’d like to share with the fans?
Lombardo: “I’m really having a nice time with Lars (Ulrich) and James (Hetfield) and (Robert) Trujillo and Dave (Mustaine) visited us in our dressing room, I go visit them. It’s a very, very nice friendship and relationship, me and Lars we get along great and I don’t like people talking shit about Lars! They have to stop! There are a lot of fans out there who like to say a lot of bad things about him and he’s a very good friend of mine and I don’t like it.”

Metal Paths: You recently had a special show in London playing Reign In Blood in it’s entirety. What were the fans’ reactions?
Lombardo: “They loved it!”
Metal Paths: And how has been for you playing entire this album?
Lombardo: “Oh I loved playing that album. I like playing it because I can play it really fast and I like to play fast because of Kerry (King). He enjoys that album too.”
Metal Paths: Would you like to do something like that in the future with another album this time?
Lombardo: “Oh we did Seasons In The Abyss, and I don’t know if it’ll ever happen with another record.”
Metal Paths: An EP is going to be released this summer. Do you have any details regarding the release date or something?
Lombardo: “No…no details (Laughs). Everything is already known as I said before. I really don’t know any details.”

SLAYER drum tornado Dave Lombardo spoke with Zisis Petkanas from Rock Overdose recently about a number of topics. A few excerpts from the chat follow:

Rock Overdose: I heard that you Slayer rehearsing again and that nine songs are ready, right?
Lombardo: “Yes I said that. King and I have these songs, we are working on them. But we will release only one EP.”
Rock Overdose: Just an EP?
Lombardo: “Yes only EP. We will release two songs.”
Rock Overdose: This summer?
Lombardo: “I think so, I’m almost certain. I don’t know how the schedule is or it is evolved.”
Rock Overdose: Could you give us more details?
Lombardo: “No, I don’t know any details. I’ve got no details. I just know this. Kerry and Tom are rcording it right now, they are doing the vocals.”

Slayer recently issued the following health status of their “brother” Jeff Hanneman:
“Slayer fans everywhere – it’s time to let you know what is going on with our brother Jeff Hanneman. As you know, Jeff was bitten by a spider more than a year ago, but what you may not have known was that for a couple of days after he went to the ER, things were touch-and-go. There was talk that he might have to have his arm amputated, and we didn’t know if he was going to pull through at all. He was in a medically-induced coma for a few days and had several operations to remove the dead and dying tissue from his arm. So, understand, he was in really, really bad shape. It’s been about a year since he got out of the hospital, and since then, he had to learn to walk again, he’s had several painful skin grafts, he’s been in rehab doing exercises to regain the strength in his arm; but best of all, he’s been playing guitar. We were all excited when he joined us onstage for the encore a year ago at The Big Four show at Coachella (see photo below).

Since then, we’ve given him all the time and support he’s needed to continue his rehab so he can come back to the band fully recovered and able to deliver the kind of shows we all want him to. While Jeff’s been doing some writing and has been coming to rehearsal over the past several weeks, he has decided he needs to take more time to continue his rehab. While we want him back onstage with the band, all of us support his decision. So, we’re very grateful that Gary Holt (EXODUS) will continue to fill in for Jeff, and will tour with us until Jeff completes his rehab and is ready to return. How long will that be? The best and most honest answer we can give you is ‘as long as it takes.’ We also wanted you to know that we’ve been doing some writing and recording for the next Slayer album – we’ve tracked a few songs, and will finish the album when we’re off the road later this year. Gary will join us on tour in Europe and the UK in May and June, and then we’ll all see you on this Summer’s Mayhem Festival.
Slayer’s tour schedule can be found here.
