Souls Of Diotima Management has issued the following:
SOULS OF DIOTIMA entered Massive Arts Studios in Milan this past August to record a very special song to be released as a single. “Sentence of the Blade” has been released on iTunes, Amazon.com, and most music sites. This song is accompanied by cover art created by amazing Manga artist Andrea Yuu Dentuto, and will also feature a “Sentence of the Blade” video, to be released at the end of this month.
The signature sound of Souls of Diotima, featuring unforgettable orchestral and special effects, combined with complex musical arrangements and compositions, powerful and mesmerizing vocals, and riveting guitar solos, is a unique style best described as “Scenematic Exhilaration Metal™”
Scenematic because the music engages all of the senses and conveys a feeling similar to watching an epic movie, creating very visual images, memorable mental scenes, almost tangible…the music and special effects are not actually a movie, so the Souls’ music is not technically cinematic, but the music experience and impact is so similar to watching an extraordinary film that listeners have a “scenematic” experience…
and Exhilaration Metal because the music created by Souls of Diotima is an emotive experience, combining the Symphonic grandeur of the orchestra and special effects with the elements of progressive metal, while always maintaining an underlying foundation of power metal…all composed in a new and unique way, resulting in an experience for metal fans which is intense and exhilarating.

In 2004, a small project started which would eventually find its meaning and place on the musical world in 2009. Going from strength to strength over time, ‘What remains of the day’ is their latest addition to force that is “Souls of Diotima”.
The 11 track album which is set to be released mid-2012 combines the use of a full Symphonic Orchestra to enhance not just the sound but the overall experience of the music too.
‘What remains of the day’ is in sense a Progressive Symphonic album with many features and techniques happening all at the same time. The mix of English and Italian vocals expressed by vocalist ‘Barsi’ has opened up this album beyond limitations and this combined with the death metal growls powers its way through the path of the unknown. The solo guitars display great understand of not just ‘Neo-Classical’ shredding, but total understand of Blues and metal phrasing at its best. Heavily influenced licks such as those of Y. Malmsteen, J. Becker, and R. Marcello are frequently heard among the passages not only in the guitars but the keyboards as well. The great use of a full symphonic orchestra at their disposal has created atmospheric elements and textures to the overall sound of each track including the ‘Intro’ and ‘Von Braun’ which on the bonus track is quite simply exquisite to hear.
The album is screaming with influences with the likes of Epica, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, Malmsteen etc… Yet the overall production seems to be lost behind the feeling of muddiness in the vocals. The ‘Von Braun’ bonus track (track 11) is amazing in every sense of the word as it features the home language of the vocalist which if had been applied to the rest of the tracks would have made this album so much clearer to hear. It would seem that the vocals are much better suited to the home language for this album, and that the vocals were originally written in Italian before being transcribed into English for whatever reasons. In my opinion, I would love to hear the rest of the album in Italian because if track 11 is anything to go by, then the rest would be amazing!
A very good album; well worth a listen. I look forward to seeing these live some day.

I chose to listen to the CD “Maitri” from Italian SOULS OF DIOTIMA in various situations to understand the feelings that may emerge in two days, including offices, cars and travel by train and I found a CD that is fun and intressant, technical skill of the musicians is excellent, without exceptions, and the female singer Claudia Barsi has a very beautiful voice, perfect for the genre.
The track list:
1. Intro
2. Limit
3. Freedom Inside You
4. Maitri
5. Anti Asceticism
6. Deaf Humanity
7. Killing My Enemies
8. For Getting Back
9. Collateral
10. Nox
1. Intro: as a keyboardist, I appreciate a lot the orchestrationI opening of the album, creating the perfect atmosphere for a live show 2. Limit: The pace is pressing us to understand the band’s style and makes us discover the pleasant voice of the singer. 3. Freedom Inside You: in this passage the orchestrations, the singer’s vocal talents are perfectly blended, the strings of the keyboard and double bass create a very nice song. 4. Maitri: the album title, beginning with Eastern sounds that are then transformed through the rhythm guitar in a very progressive song load, even here the voice of Claudia Barsi fits well in. 5. Anti Asceticism: a piano opens the song in the best tradition way of symphonic metal, from there comes a precise and captivating piece that pushes the singer’s voice in tones that certainly aren’t possible for everyone. 6. Deaf Humanity: an interesting song, but perhaps it’s not what impressed me most in this album 7. Killing My Enemies: here we return instead to listen to a very beautiful and precious song, where the drummer certainly is having fun 8. For Getting Back: Another song that makes us appreciate the range and vocal abilities of the singer and the technical skills of her band, a good job 9. Collateral: the harpsichord brings back memories of Blind Guardian, a band that I loved and still love, so I like this song very much! There is a short bass solo, but that allows us to understand of what stuff it has been made 10. Nox: resume orchestral intro of the album and the song turns out to be purely an instrumental track. It gives a free rein to the keyboard that can create orchestrations and situations with other musicians in the band

Metal Shock Finland’s Tarja Virmakari has commented the track “Killing My Enemies”: “Besides being the chief editor of Metal Shock Finland, I’m also the president of the no-profil Association “Rock Against Child Pornography” in Italy, … the world we are living today, sometimes and unfortunately, is very painful, I would say a real hell, to persons who have suffered an abuse or a child exploitation, of any kind … I’ve listened to this song, several times … The warm and convincing voice of Claudia, the lyrics that cut and split the heart in thousand tears, the melodies that make you live the painful story on your own skin, all together render this song to something that touches the inner nuclear of your heart… and in a certain way I think, this song shouldn’t be included on this album, but it’s something more, it deserves to be listened to, apart and separately … THIS song has a happy end, but too many times the real, lived life doesn’t have it”.
