STRAY GODS have released their new official video for first single ‘Out of Nowhere’, taken from the band’s upcoming album “Olympus” that will be released on June 23, 2023 as Digipack CD, Transparent green vinyl limited to 500 copies worldwide and digital streaming/download format.
What started by the highly acclaimed Greek Heavy Metal musician and producer Bob Katsionis as a tribute to his childhood metal heroes from England, seems to have evolved to a full-blown power on today’s Heavy/Power Metal Scene. Stray Gods, just one year after their debut album “Storm The Walls” are back with “Olympus”, a sophomore release showing more aspects of their musical depth and abilities as well as strong songwriting skills. After Stray Gods’ first live show at the Up The Hammers Festival in Athens, the realization dawned on Bob that the band had the potential to endure beyond their love for Iron Maiden. The excellent chemistry between the band members, coupled with the favorable reviews comparing their debut album to Maiden’s discography, instilled a newfound sense of confidence in Bob. Consequently, they began to compose music without any creative constraints, focusing solely on writing exceptional songs that could be performed by any band he could be a member of in the past. This creative freedom led to the creation of “Olympus,” an album that Bob Katsionis takes immense pride in, with the title track standing out as his finest composition to date. Although all of the band members played a crucial role in shaping the album’s sound, Artur’s vocal performance was particularly noteworthy. Additionally, the album is dotted with Easter Eggs from Maiden’s 1986-1992 era, which adds an element of enjoyment for fans. Despite initial hesitancy from the press, the album received a warm welcome, with industry professionals and friends alike praising Stray Gods for having a distinct sound despite its similarity to Maiden. Finally, the album cover features an illustration by German artist Uwe Jarling, depicting an 80’s guitarist on a trek up Mount Olympus, where he has a spiritual encounter with the twelve gods themselves.

Stray Gods comment on the video: “In this video, we faced a big challenge: while the song is talking about a forthcoming encounter of two armies interrupted by the sudden galloping of some riders on a kind of “evil” Black Horses, we wanted to do something different from the typical “epic” videoclips. So, we decided to go for a REAL battle of “Crossbows & Catapults”! This game was a huge success in the early 80s, particularly in our country, Greece, where it still has its enthusiasts and collectors spending insane amounts of money for a boxed version of the game!
We had tons of fun, while also striking some deeply nostalgic strings of ours and hopefully of our fans. The rest of the video was filmed in Bob’s very own Sound Symmetry Studio in Athens, GR.”

Stray Gods comment on the video: “This video was filmed…on the Seventh-day: The day that Stray Gods got together for the first time at Sound Symmetry Studio, after the recordings of “Storm The Walls”! Lyrically, the song is about the seven days of human creation but built around the emotions of two growing characters, a man and a woman. Musically, it was the very first song to be recorded for the album, and the one that started this project back in May 2021 when Bob was just testing a newly purchased bass, played the opening riff, and..that was it: the birth of Stray Gods!”

There would be no one to present this project better than Bob itself, so in his own words: “It all happened completely by accident: in order to make a test song for a newly purchased bass, I started jamming on an Iron Maiden’esque bass line. Six days later, I had written a whole album’s worth of material! Being not only an Iron Maiden fan but also a producer, it was easy enough for me to step in the shoes of any band member and take the role of any musician. What Steve should play here, what drum fill would Nicko use, what kind of solo would fit here? Also, back in May 2021, there were no talks of a new IM album yet, so it felt like I was filling a gap. I didn’t try to make a cheap IM mimicking album, instead, I started writing music the way that those British Gods of Metal taught me since 1988 when I first encountered their music. Then I had to find the right musicians to do the job. Dan Baune of Monument -except for playing a couple of great solos on the album- introduced me to singer Artur Almeida that I already knew from his work with Attik Demons. Then, Gus Macricostas on bass was a very obvious choice for me from the days we played together back in 2002, same goes for Scar Of The Sun and Outloud bandmate, Thanos Pappas, who also drums for Urizen, the only Greek Bruce Dickinson Tribute Band! Having all these guys also playing for other bands of ROAR Records, it also looked like a sign that this album would be released by them. I’m really happy for this collaboration and can’t wait to jam these songs live with these great guys!”
